Meet the Divas! We Chat With Kelly Rowland, Jordin Sparks, Natasha Bedingfield, and Paloma Faith

18 December 2012 7:58 AM, PST | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

VH1's Divas Live featured host Adam Lambert, tons of chirping chanteuses, and tributes to everyone from Madonna to Whitney Houston. We hit the red carpet to talk with some of the featured performers, including the ever-glamorous Kelly Rowland (who teaches us what it's like to hump the floor at the Bet Awards), the "Unwritten" songstress Natasha Bedingfield (who sings a bit of "Groove is in the Heart" for us!), Jordin Sparks (who reveals her inner diva), and the saucy Paloma Faith.

VH1 "Divas Live" Highlights: Adam Lambert Takes on Madonna, Kelly Clarkson Takes All

17 December 2012 6:28 AM, PST | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

We tuned in for host Adam Lambert, but VH1's Divas Live contained a number of eye-popping, deeply danceable moments last night. Miley Cyrus sang Billy Idol, Brandy, Kelly Rowland, and Jordin Sparks wooed us with mad vocals and killer hand choreography, and even Sheila E. dropped by for an otherworldly drumming exhibition as part of a Donna Summer tribute.

But those weren't even my favorite moments! My interviews on the red carpet with many of the divas will be up soon, but in the meantime, check out our favorite clips from the night.

Adam Lambert kicks it off with a gnarly-ass version of "Let's Dance"

Hell yes: Adam sounded amazing as he toasted David Bowie with this tripped-out, blipped-up, vampy version of "Let's Dance." I think it's fair to call it one of the best performances of the night, since it had fine costuming, killer vocals, and choreography lifted »

In case you needed a reason to cry this morning, check out this story from the Beekman website about a gay 12-year-old boy, Colin, whose mom wrote to Josh and Brent to tell them how inspiring it was for Colin to watch them compete on The Amazing Race every week. In response, Josh and Brent organized their fellow Racers to take pictures with a sign declaring their support for Colin.

Deadline reports on some programming moves at TV Land. The Soul Man and The Exes have been renewed for a second and third season, respectively, while Retired at 35 has been mercifully cancelled.

Lady Gaga had some unexpected guests for Thanksgiving. As Gaga celebrated in Peru she noticed on her security camera that thirty five fans were sneaking into her garage. A normal person would be freaked out but not Gaga.

Sir Ian McKellen came out of the closet in 1988, in his 40s. But he says while it's wonderful to be liberated, being in the closet helped make him a better actor. “There was no Graham Norton on the television at that time, no gay MPs, no-one talking about gay rights on the radio. So I dealt with it my trying to cut that part of myself off, to hide myself, to choke a part of me. When you are made to feel you are so wrong for being who you are, that’s what you do. I think that’s why so many great British actors are gay - we spent so long pretending to be straight, to be someone else, that eventually we became very good at it.”

7 Former Sitcom Stars Who Should Join "Survivor"

17 October 2012 10:13 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Lisa Whelchel, it's been real, but your stint on Survivor: Philippines is already disappointing. You've brought none of Blair Warner's flair to the proceedings, and you prove your Survivor cred is lacking with quotes like, "I can only play with the cards I've been given!" Guess who doesn't leave their fate up to the "cards" dealt by other players? People like Parvati Shallow. Russell Hantz. You know, Survivor super-champs.

Thus, it's time to think about which sitcom legends should join Survivor next. I love seeing TV stars of yore regain screentime, so this is a perfect opportunity to highlight other greats who 1) could slip by without the other contestants recognizing them, 2) are cooler than the anti-gay Whelchel, and 3) would be, uh, interesting. Here are our seven best options.

1. Dawn Wells (Gilligan's Island)

This is my most controversial choice because Wells is both 73 and still very recognizable, but come On. Her »

One of the highlights of Fashion Week? Heading over to Natasha Bedingfield's suite at the Empire Hotel while she was being prepped by hairstylist Ricardo Rojas and makeup artist Celeste Duquesne for the Y-3 runway show. The singer was going for an '80s vintage Chanel look (think smoky eyes, bright lips, and expertly zuzhed hair) and told us that even when getting the red-carpet treatment, she mixes her Tom Ford True Coral lipstick with, well, everything. London 2012 closing ceremony: unleashing a musical superpower

Danny Boyle got Shakespeare – Stephen Daldry got John Lennon, Freddy Mercury and more Shakespeare

As nine o'clock approached, we counted down as an audience, all very cheerful and inclusive; it was like Hi-de-hi on a giant scale, or the millennium. We were partying like it was 1999.

It would have been good to hear from Prince, but he's not British, of course. It's not very often that people organise a concert along purely national lines. There are things you lose and things you gain, of course, but – inspired by the Olympics – I would like to see more of this, maybe some nation-on-nation competing, where we could get Emeli Sande in a sing-off against Beyoncé. I only say this because I think we would win. One of the many hard things about the coming weeks will be to stop wanting to turn every element of life into a rankable competition with clear victors. »

Adam Levine Holds Hands With Behati Prinsloo, 10 Other Celebs He Won’t Be Dating Anytime Soon

Adam Levine, 33, has certainly shown the world what type of women he likes, and who can blame him? Just a few months after his break up with Anne Vyalitsyna, Levine has been spotted holding hands with Another Victoria’s Secret model, Behati Prinsloo. This, of course, after being caught making out with each other a few weeks ago.

Since it’s pretty obvious Levine is smitten with models (specifically Victoria’s Secret angels), we've decided to come up with a few ladies who won’t be dating Levine in the near future. They just don't fit the apparent criteria.

1. Jennifer Love Hewitt- The smoking hot actress confessed her attraction to Levine on the Ellen DeGeneres show. Levine eventually responded and said he was flattered but didn’t give us a direct response. Sorry Jennifer!

2. Christina Aguilera- The tension between these two is rather apparent on The Voice, but »

New Girl: move over Jess, Schmidt is the real star

29 June 2012 4:04 PM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Max Greenfield is the latest supporting actor to out-funny the lead character in a sitcom. Even if he can't say 'chutney'

It's a proven mathematical probability that the "supporting" characters in any given sitcom will eventually, at some point, out-funny the protagonists. Karen in Will & Grace, Gunther and David who went to Minsk in Friends, Norm in Cheers, Brian in Spaced, Klinger in M*A*S*H, George in Seinfeld, Michael the petrol station attendant in I'm Alan Partridge, Tobias in Arrested Development, Mr Burns in The Simpsons. See? Pure, inarguable maths.

There's always something more absurd about the supporting cast in a sitcom, some funky wiring going on upstairs. In Fox's New Girl, this year's most talked-about – and equally divisive – sitcom, this role is filled by Schmidt, Jess's perma-topless, Tahitian vanilla-loving roommate, who isn't so much Zooey Deschanel's second string as the show's compulsively quotable, batty breakout star. »
