Newswire: Veep’s Matt Walsh will get down with Melissa McCarthy in Life Of The Party

The Veep gang may all be going their separate ways after a hard-won defeat at the polls, but Matt Walsh is keeping busy. He stars in the upcoming Keeping Up With The Joneses, along with the impossibly-beautiful Gal Gadot and Jon Hamm. The Office Christmas Party actor was also recently cast in A Stupid And Futile Gesture, the National Lampoon origin story starring Will Forte, which was written by Walsh’s Childrens Hospital collaborators, Michael Colton and John Aboud. The details of his latest role are being kept tightly under wraps, but Variety reports that Walsh has signed on for Melissa McCarthy’s Life Of The Party.

The film is McCarthy’s latest collaboration with husband Ben Falcone, who will direct. It’s already been scheduled for release on May 11, 2018. Plot info is scant, but Life Of The Party is reportedly similar in tone to Back To School ...

Emmy Rossum Joins Netflix’s National Lampoon Movie (Exclusive)

Emmy Rossum is joining the ensemble of “A Futile and Stupid Gesture,” Netflix’s biopic on National Lampoon co-founder Douglas Kenney.

Will Forte will play Kenney and Domhnall Gleeson will portray the humor magazine’s other founder, Henry Beard, in the film being directed by David WainJoel McHale will play Chevy Chase.

Kenney was the editor of the Harvard Lampoon when he met Beard and Robert Hoffman. They launched National Lampoon, which became a major force in 1970s comedy, soon after graduation. Kenney suffered from drug and alcohol abuse, and fell off a cliff in Hawaii in 1980 under mysterious circumstances.

Rossum will play Kathryn Walker, Kenney’s close friend, who couldn’t stop his destructive slide.

Peter Principato and Jonathan Stern are producing. Ed Helms is exec producing along with Michael Colton and John Aboud. Ben Ormand, Ted Hamm and Sean McKittrick are also exec producing.

Broad City's Gemberling To Play John Belushi

"Broad City" actor John Gemberling is set to portray legendary comedian John Belushi in Netflix's original movie "A Futile & Stupid Gesture" which tells the tragic story of National Lampoon co-founder Doug Kenney.

Will Forte is set to play Kenney, Domhnall Gleeson is co-founder Henry Beard, and Joel McHale will co-star as Chevy Chase in the film about Kenney who helped create the popular humor magazine and co-wrote comedy classics "Caddyshack" and "Animal House".

Kenney wound up struggling with drug and alcohol abuse before falling off a cliff in Hawaii under mysterious circumstances. David Wain ("Wet Hot American Summer") helms from a script by Michael Colton and John Aboud, based on the book by Josh Karp.

Peter Principato and Jonathan Stern are producing and filming begins later this month.

Gleeson To Play "National Lampoon" Co-Founder

"Ex Machina," "The Revenant" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" actor Domhnall Gleeson is closing a deal to join Will Forte in Netflix's original film "A Futile And Stupid Gesture".

The drama/comedy follows the guys who founded National Lampoon magazine and turned it into a comic force that hatched talents such as John Hughes and John Belushi along with iconic movies like "Animal House" and "Caddyshack".

Forte will play Doug Kenney, and Gleeson will play Henry Beard, the pair forming the comedy magazine with Robert Hoffman. David Wain is directing from a script by Michael Colton and John Aboud. Peter Principato and Jonathan Stern are producing.

Unlikely to slow down the prolific streak at any point, Johnnie To has announced one of his next projects: Election 3, a follow-up to his beloved 2005 and 2006 actioners that’s expected to commence shooting in 2018. If that seems far away, or as if he has a weird habit of announcing projects, keep in mind that two other films are in active development, with his newest, Three, expected to premiere this year. And bear in mind that, while the screenplay is “almost finished,” it’s also “rather long” — so long that there’s the question of what section he’ll even use, and thus if star Louis Koo would return for a third go-round.
