Broad City: Season Four Ratings

15 September 2017 7:18 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Fans of the Broad City TV show don't have to worry about the series being cancelled too soon. Comedy Central renewed it through season five, back in January of 2016. Will their faith be rewarded, or will the ratings drop and make them regret the renewal? Stay tuned. A scripted comedy, Broad City follows two best friends -- Ilana (Ilana Glazer) and Abbi (Abbi Jacobson) -- as they navigate their twenties in New York City. In the fourth season, Comedy Central says, "Abbi and Ilana will experience NYC in a whole new way: the dead of winter." They'll also get new jobs, mark their "Friendiversary," experiment with mushrooms, explore being witches, and take a trip to Florida. Hannibal Buress, John Gemberling, Stephen Schneider, Arturo Castro, Paul W. Downs, Chris Gethard, Eliot Glazer, Susie Essman, Bob Balaban, and Nicole Drespel recur on the series. »

Chris Gethard: How TV’s Most Unconventional Talk Show Host is Bending the Rules of Space and Time

3 August 2017 12:31 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

On Thursday night, Chris Gethard is going back home.

Sure, home is a set at a Midtown Manhattan studio, made of leftover material from the set of David Letterman’s old show. Some of it’s been repurposed into The Diddy Door, a walkway reserved for Sean Combs.

“It’s oddly emotional for me to walk in and take a deep breath, because I always think about how for four years on public access, I did not have access to the trunk of my own car because it was full of our set,” Gethard said in a recent interview with IndieWire. “We’d have to show up, set it up, every week, knock it down every week, put it back in the trunk. The idea that we have a set now that’s a semi-permanent thing is just so mind blowing. It feels like an odd little victory.”

5 Things We Learned From TCA: Day 3

27 July 2017 6:51 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

There are always plenty of surprises, who-knew and they-said-what moments during the parade of TV show panels at the Television Critics Assn. press tour.

Day three of the summer tour that runs through Aug. 9 featured presentations from TruTV, TNT, TBS and Hulu.

Here are five things we learned from Wednesday’s sessions:

TBS is extremely proud of the unlike-ability of its sleeper hit comedy “Search Party.” “When (the script) was sent to (TBS’) Thom Hinkle, he brought it to my office, and the first thing I said was, ‘I hate all of these people and we have to do this show,’ “ said Brett Weitz, TBS’ exec VP of original programming. Tracy Morgan, star of TBS’ “The Last O.G.,” had the crowd in stitches for most of his session. But he got serious for a moment when asked if the show would tackle hot-button political issues for African-Americans. Morgan plays a man who returns to his Brooklyn neighborhood »

Chris Gethard: Seriously Dark Comedy

26 May 2017 11:15 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Over the course of his strange comedy career, Chris Gethard has hitchhiked to Bonnaroo for a Web series and dangled himself over a pellet-gun-toting audience while dressed as a duck. But no experience could have prepared him for Career Suicide, his new HBO comedy special. In it, the Jersey comic discusses his history with anxiety, alcoholism and depression. He details a suicide attempt at age 21, in which he tried to get hit by a truck but wound up crashing his car on someone's lawn. "I think I overestimated my ability to handle discussing it onstage, »

‘Game of Thrones’ Spin-Offs: HBO Developing Four Different Stories Set in Different Time Periods

Even though “Game of Thrones” is ending after Season 8, that doesn’t mean that’s the end of our TV adventures in Westeros.

HBO has hired four different writers to pen possible spin-offs of our favorite fantasy drama, the network announced Thursday. A spokesperson said, “We’ve closed deals for four very talented writers to each explore different time periods of George R. R. Martin’s vast and rich universe There is no set timetable for these projects. We’ll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in.

Dan Weiss and David Benioff continue to work on finishing up the seventh season and are already in the midst of writing and preparing for the eighth and final season. We have kept them up to date on our plans and they will be attached, »

‘The Chris Gethard Show’ Moves to TruTV

4 May 2017 8:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The Chris Gethard Show” is migrating to TruTV for its third season.

The move is the latest for comedian Gethard’s talker, which began as a live show at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York, then became a cable-access program, then was picked up by cable channel Fusion with its launch there in 2015. No premiere date has been set. TruTV will broadcast the show live from New York. Episodes were prerecorded for Fusion.

“I’ve long admired truTV for their brand of honest, in your face comedy. Myself and the gang from ‘The Chris Gethard Show’ are thrilled to have a new home on the network and are licking our chops for a chance to match the bar truTV has set the past few years,” said Gethard. “I also can’t believe they’re letting us do the show live. Kudos to them for embracing what could be a real disaster. My »

How Chris Gethard’s Depression Chronicle ‘Career Suicide’ Is A Gift To Fans Who’ve Shared Their Struggles

3 May 2017 12:53 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Chris Gethard doesn’t want you to worry about him, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t nervous.

“Permanence is not my usual M.O. and it’s pretty terrifying,” Gethard said, sitting in the Hollywood offices of Funny or Die last month. He smiled, but even he’ll admit that behind that grin, there’s the reserved bit of trepidation that comes before releasing a bit of yourself out into the world.

On Saturday, his comedy special “Chris Gethard: Career Suicide” will debut on HBO. In it, over the course of an hour and a half, Gethard details his decades-long relationship with depression, recounting his first experiences with a sinking sensation he couldn’t quite identify, all the way through impulsive suicide attempts, pieced-together blackout spells and the process of finding healthier, constructive ways to deal with all of those conflicting feelings and ideas.

Writers Guild Negotiations: For Talk Shows Trying to Plan the Next Few Weeks, The Possibility of a Strike Made It Tough

1 May 2017 8:11 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

The show must go on – until a strike is officially called. [Update — No strike!]

That was the word from inside TV’s late night talk shows and series, which continued to operate, business as usual, even as the possibility of a work stoppage on May 2 loomed large.

That has meant continuing to book guests, produce taped packages and plan for series road trips – all of which might not happen should the Writers Guild negotiating committee call for a strike.

“We’ll see what happens and take it from there,” said “The Late Late Show with James Corden” executive producer Ben Winston. ” We support the writers, we hope the strike doesn’t happen, because we want to carry on working and making a show. It’s concern for us. I think any decision on what we do, we’ll wait and hope it doesn’t happen and hope that everything works out.”
