Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan has turned in a menacing new cover of the Raveonettes’ “Chains.”
Gahan crafted the version with frequent Depeche Mode collaborator, Kurt Uenala. While the Raveonettes’ original featured a striking clash of buzzsaw guitars and clattering percussion, Gahan and Uenala give the song an electronic and industrial edge without sacrificing the song’s sense of heightened anxiety.
On Facebook, the Raveonettes’ Sune Rose Wagner celebrated the new rendition, writing, “People always measure success in terms of album sales, chart positions, etc but for me success was...

In September, Danish rock duo The Raveonettes will release their 6th full length album, Observator. It's been ten years now since these two talented artists, that share a taste for both noise pop and '60s rock, broke onto the Danish music scene. Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo have been flooding our ears with new sounds ever since, especially over the last two years. Last year, The Raveonettes released a studio album and a rarities disc, while this year we've already been given a four song Ep by the group. Earlier this week, the band premiered the video for their newest single off of their forthcoming album. "She Owns The Streets" isn't just a unique New York themed video, it also has an interesting back story.

As is the case every year, I start reading year-end lists posted by trusted peers/journalists and discover I've missed plenty of deserving culture. With the glut of films, music, theater, TV shows, books, et al. on numerous websites, TV screens, bookshelves, and periodicals, it's fairly easy. Truth be told, in addition to P.J. Harvey's much-deserved kudos, other women singers/songwriters/bands really stepped up their game this year, making many top ten year-end lists, and I missed out on discovering some of them. With that in mind, here's some additions to my 2011 year's end list.
St. Vincent: Strange Mercy (4Ad) - Quirky alt pop with flourishes of art rock and off-kilter guitar hooks. This Dallas-bred artist and former Polyphonic Spree guitarist/singer released her third and most favorably received album in 2011. Annie Clark has the look of an existential art girl who has known plenty of emotional scorn for her empowerment,...

If someone put a gun to my head and asked me to name my favorite band, I would have to say The Raveonettes. This Danish indie-rock duo is one of the most ambitious and fearless bands in the music industry today. Sune Rose Wagner plays the guitar and Sharirn Foo is on the bass and sometimes dabbles in the tambourine. They both split vocal duty, with Foo probably being the more recognizable voice. Known for their brazenness both on and off the stage, Foo and Wagner have been known to speak their mind without much filter. Some have criticized them for being cocky but when you are as good as they are, you can afford to be the cock of the walk. There music is pretty hard to describe, I like to say that it is 50s-60s bubblegum rock in it’s structure and instrumentation except with an intense...

After keeping fans updated with his play-by-play MySpace updates, Sune Rose Wagner of the Raveonettes finally announced the Danish twosome is ready to hit the studio and record the follow-up to 2008's Lust Lust Lust. In recent weeks, Wagner has posted a new blog entry nearly every day, keeping fans in the loop to whom he and bandmate Sharin Foo had spoken.
