Elizabeth Banks Featured in New Promo Poster for The Hunger Games

21 December 2011 11:17 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

It may be considered the newest darling of the tweener crowd, but so far everything we've seen from The Hunger Games film adaptation has looked pretty promising, including this latest bit of promo in the form of an ad for China Glaze's "Capitol Colours" series of nail polishes featuring Elizabeth Banks' character, District 12 escort Effie Trinket.

MTV provides our first look at the ad and explains it as follows:

Just look at Ms. Trinket in this photo! Her perfectly curled hair is a very soft shade of pink, further accented by a purple headpiece and a fuchsia top. Effie’s makeup is equally bold, with hot pink eyeshadow above and below her eyes, plus matching lipstick (not to mention those feather-like adornments on her eyelashes). The ad features small swatches of what we presume to be the official 12 colors to be launched as part of the “Capitol Colours” line, »

New Poster for The Hunger Games Revealed

15 December 2011 5:04 PM, PST | Movie Cultists | See recent Movie Cultists news »

An awesome new poster for The Hunger Games has recently been revealed and it does a great job of emphasizing the ‘game’ part of the movie, with the tagline, “the world will be watching,” providing insight into another element of the movie.

In The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and the other Tributes are forced to take part in what might be considered the ultimate reality show, where one person is declared the winner and everyone else dies. In the Suzanne Collins novel that the film is based on, Katniss learns how to basically work the system, getting aid from the viewers that are watching the game unfold. Unless the movie gets really excessive with voiceovers, I’m not sure how that aspect of the story will be translated to the big screen, but the first trailer looks pretty good so I have faith that everything will be handled well. Basically, »

The Hunger Games Podcast – The Book vs. The Trailer: What Do We Know?

23 November 2011 7:30 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Lionsgate released a trailer for their new movie, The Hunger Games a couple of weeks ago and to me, it looked pretty good. It showed us some of the storyline which was good for me as I know nothing about The Hunger Games. My wife, Laraine on the other hand has just read the book and hasn’t seen the trailer so while on a journey to Eastbourne last weekend, we decided to record a Podcast talking about what I knew about the movie and without giving anything away, she expands on my knowledge from the trailer and other marketing materials that have been released.

In the Podcast, we discuss the rating that the film should be set at, what people can expect, a little bit more of the story and who certain people are in the trailer. We try and keep it very high level so don’t delve too deep into the storyline. »

New The Hunger Games Stills; Lionsgate Already Pursuing a Writer for the Sequel, Catching Fire

16 November 2011 5:55 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Hot on the heels of releasing the official trailer for The Hunger Games, Lionsgate has provided People Magazine with a few new stills from the film. In addition, we've heard some rumblings about the studio already attempting to lock in a writer for the sequel, entitled Catching Fire.

Per Deadline Lionsgate is courting Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours scribe Simon Beaufoy to write Catching Fire, the second installment of the three-book series that tracks the life and death adventures of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). It also looks like Gary Ross, who directed The Hunger Games, is coming back for the sequel. Ross originally intended to write the outline for the second film and script it with author Suzanne Collins (they teamed to do a lot of writing on the first film), but the post-production schedule on The Hunger Games has made that difficult. There is no start date on the sequel, »

The teaser trailer for The Hunger Games was a joke but a new trailer for the film, which debuted this morning on ABC's Good Morning America, certainly appears to have captured the essence of Suzanne Collins' story, at least up to the point tributes from each district in a dystopian future prepare to do battle until only one remains. Omg! There are new character posters for The Hunger Games! I’m not posting these merely because I want to look at them. What makes you think that? Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss: Josh Hutcherson as Peeta: Liam Hemsworth as Gale: Amandla Stenberg as Rue: Lenny Kravitz as Cinna: Elizabeth Banks as Effie: Woody Harrelson as Haymitch: Alexander Ludwig as Cato: At first I thought, Hmm, Cato doesn’t look so mean. And Haymitch looks awfully put-together. And then I realized: Ah, these are in-universe ads for the Hunger Games themselves! Of course Haymitch isn’t gonna be drunk and disgusting. But hey! Wait! Where is the Caesar Flickerman poster? Where is President Snow? Where are Primrose and Claudius Templesmith? *grrr* Lionsgate is just teasing us, aren’t they? No, this is not the movie based on a book I’ve most anticipated since The Lord of the Rings? Who told you that? »

'The Hunger Games' vs. 'Twilight': A Vanity Fair spread showdown

In 2008, the little-known cast of the upcoming movie "Twilight" posed for a Vanity Fair group shot. The movie -- and the actors in it, including Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner -- went on to fame, fortune and lots of sequels. Here's hoping the same mojo holds for "The Hunger Games." In Vanity Fair's latest issue, the movie's young cast -- anchored by star Jennifer Lawrence -- pose in what we'll now officially call the "Vanity Fair Teen Fantasy Movie Ensemble Shot."

"The Hunger Games" -- based on the popular young adult books by Suzanne Collins about a dystopian future where children are forced to battle gladiator style -- is currently filming in North Carolina and expected to hit theaters in March 2012. Meanwhile, the next "Twilight" installment, "Breaking Dawn Part 1," is due in theaters on Nov. 18, just in time for Thankgsgiving.
