The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the longlist of songs for its Best Original Song Oscar in 2014, ahead of the nominations for the shortlist on January 14.

The list features 75 songs written for movies over the last year, with artists including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, U2, Coldplay, Kings Of Leon, Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and M83 all making the grade. Pharrell is included for his hit Happy, currently in the top 5 of the UK charts, which appears in Despicable Me 2, and other animated films make up a large proportion of those selected: Epic, Turbo, The Croods, Planes, Escape From Planet Earth and Monsters University all also get a mention.

The Voice Season 5 Semifinal Results Recap: Did the Right Three Singers Make the Finale?

10 December 2013 7:27 PM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Who says there’s no life after The Voice?

Season 5′s Top 5 results telecast felt like an aggressive response to the blogosphere complaint that NBC’s reality-singing behemoth has yet to produce a viable chart-topper — this week’s Top 10 iTunes milestones for covers by three current semifinalists notwithstanding. Thn At The Royal Albert Hall With Danny Elfman & Tim Burton

“The greatest moment of my life!” proclaimed Danny Elfman as he received a triple standing ovation that cheered on his career and stunning singing performance with songs from The Nightmare Before Chirstmas but even though this brought the house down and closed the concert, we had already been treated to the stunningly talented BBC Concert Orchestra, the Maida Vale Singers and conductor John Mauceri leading the way. The latter has had an incredibly distinguished career and this made him the perfect choice to guide this celebration, with Mauceri even lending his voice in the latter stages with a few lines of his own from The Nightmare Before Christmas, complete with a Santa hat.

Danny Elfman is one of the most celebrated film composers in our modern era. He’s scored that famous The Simpsons theme, plus worked with Peter Jackson, Gus van Sant and David O Russell to name but a few. »
