The subtitle of The Legend of Hell’s Gate is “An American Conspiracy.” A conspiracy usually involves a large cast of characters and, in his feature debut, writer-director-star Tanner Beard draws upon local legends and has cast a legion of mid-level character actors to spin a small-scale oater epic with a proverbial cast of thousands. Beard should be commended for his ambition, but his reach far too often exceeds his grasp.
In 1876 West Texas, former thief turned railworker Jimmy (Beard) arrives in Dallas seeking his fortune and a cure for his toothache, which leads to an encounter with Doc Holliday (Jamie Thomas King) and his befriending of a local prostitute named Katherine (Jenna Dewan of The Playboy Club). When Vulture ran into the actor turned producer, his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum, and Deborah Scranton, the writer-director-producer of the award-winning movie they produced together, Earth Made of Glass, about the Rwandan genocide, we tried to congratulate Tatum for his multi-hyphenate roles and abilities exhibited in the past year alone. After all, this summer he's turning his stripper past into a Steven Soderbergh movie and he's reasserted his action-hero abilities in the G.I. Joe franchise — not to mention the romances (The Vow) and comedies (21 Jump Street) he's so aptly carried. Hollywood couple Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan landed a top honour in New York on Monday for their documentary on the Rwandan genocide.
The stars served as executive producers of the HBO show Earth Made of Glass, which investigates the 1994 killings that devastated the African country, and they were applauded for their project at the Peabody Awards.
Dewan told reporters, "It's nice to be recognised for a project that we feel we're really proud of. I think it has a great message, and it's nice just to get that awareness out."
Other winners at the prizegiving, which honours the best in U.S. broadcasting, included hit TV dramas Game Of Thrones and Homeland and comedy series Parks and Recreation. »

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan were among the honorees at yesterday's 71st Peabody Awards in NYC. The pair happily accepted the bronze award on behalf of the groundbreaking documentary they produced, Earth Made of Glass. Backstage during the show, Jenna talked to reporters about the film, saying, "It's nice to be recognized for a project that we feel we're really proud of . . . I think it has a great message, and it's nice just to get that awareness out." This could be the first of many trophies for Channing this year. In addition to six Teen Choice nominations for his work in The Vow and 21 Jump Street, he's also up for multiple MTV Movie Award nominations including best kiss, best male performance, best fight, and best cast. Huge congratulations are in order for Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Reid Carolin, and Deborah Scranton!! Today in New York, their incredible documentary, ‘Earth Made of Glass‘, just received a prestigious Peabody Award, which recognizes excellence in radio, television, and new media.
Chan and Jenna executive produced ‘Earth Made of Glass‘ with Reid via their production company 33&Out and Deborah’s Clover & a Bee Films. The political documentary had a standing room only premiere at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival (with the President of Rwanda in attendance), was an official selection at the 2010 Abu Dhabi Film Festival, and also received a 2011 Producers Guild Award nomination for Best Documentary Theatrical Motion Picture.

Channing Tatum held onto his wife Jenna Dewan's hand as they made their way through Lax yesterday. The couple were heading out of town after an exciting week. Channing's new Magic Mike trailer dropped, featuring even more shirtless and sexy moments from him and his costars Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, and Joe Manganiello. The guys also posed for the cover of Entertainment Weekly, though Channing was solo for his spread in Out magazine. Actress Jenna Dewan made sure her husband Channing Tatum had a 32nd birthday to remember by organising a 'Flash Mob' for the hunk at a New York City club.
Following an all-day bar crawl, the couple and some friends wound up at Southern Hospitality Hell's Kitchen, where Dewan performed a choreographed dance routine with what first appeared to be club regulars to the tune of Dirty Dancing love theme (I've Had) The Time of My Life.
Thrilled Tatum clearly enjoyed his birthday treat, lifting his wife high above his head in a bid to recreate the magical dance move Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey shared in the cult film.
