- Former owner of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings. Struck the deal with then-Edmonton Oilers owner Peter Pocklington that sent Wayne Gretzky, Marty McSorley and Mike Krushelnyski to Los Angeles for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, $15 million cash, and the Kings' first-round draft picks in 1989, 1991 and 1993. The Oilers won the Stanley Cup in 1990. The Kings reached the Cup Finals in 1993.
- Was a part-owner of the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL with Gretzky and John Candy. The group signed Raghib Ismail on the first day of the 1991 NFL draft, where he was projected the #1 overall pick.
- Sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for four counts of bank fraud and one count each of wire fraud and conspiracy involving $236 million (9 January 1997).
- In 1991, he and Wayne Gretzky bought a baseball card of Honus Wagner from the American Tobacco Company 1909 T-206 series; only 50 are known to exist. Gretzky bought McNall out, then sold the card to Wal-Mart and Treat Entertainment in 1995 for $500,000. On 31 August 2007, the "McNall/Gretzky" Wagner was sold for $2.8 million, just over six months after it was bought for $2.35 million.
