Who Was Lil Peep? How the 21-Year-Old Rapper Showed Us What 'Gone Too Young' Looks Like in the YouTube Era
Lil Peep may not have been a name you knew.

But the 21-year-old up-and-coming rapper's death from a suspected overdose on Wednesday -- just three months after releasing his debut album, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1 -- sent a wave of sorrow through the music community, reminiscent in some ways of the "gone-too-young" artists of eras past. Outpourings of mourning came from all over, from ex Bella Thorne, to Pete Wentz, to Sam Smith, to Marshmello, who revealed he and Peep had been in talks to collaborate just days before he died.

And for fans of the young rapper, the tragedy is something that played out right before our eyes, even up to the moments right before his untimely demise.

I still remember watching one of the first videos that Green Day ever came out with and wondering “who the heck are these guys?”. That seems to be the call of anyone and everyone that gets to see an up and coming band on late night TV when their video starts to play. Something tells me it had been playing a while before that but Green Day still hadn’t become as big of a hit as it did soon after. From the moment they became a known part of American culture they were considered to be one of the best

A dynamically-gentle, compelling folk-Americana album by an earnest singer-songwriter from Chicago. Mr. Kesller once shared his chops on The Voice and that certainly helped raise his profile as an artist of merit and will hopefully afford him a much deserved wider audience for this amazing new album.

Recorded in Los Angeles at New Monkey Studio (made famous by Elliot Smith), About Memory was produced by Marc Daniel Nelson (Fleetwood Mac, Colbie Caillat) and Ran Jackson (Katy Perry, Goo Goo Dolls), and mastered by Eric Boulanger, who has worked with chart-topping artists like Adele, Green Day, and Neil Young.

Check out the video above for the gorgeous single "Old Fashioned Way" and pick up his album today and play it repeatedly.
