Masters of the Universe Release Date Set; McG Not Directing

27 April 2017 11:47 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Sony Pictures updated their release schedule today, announcing the release date for the Masters of the Universe reboot. More information on the movie is scarce, but one thing is for certain, Masters of the Universe will open on December 18th, 2019. This is exciting news considering that Masters of the Universe has been in development for years with reports of finished scripts reported as far back as 2014.

McG (Charlie's Angels, Terminator Salvation) was originally slated to direct Masters of the Universe, but is no longer attached and Sony is meeting with prospective directors. David S. Goyer (Batman Begins) is currently writing the screenplay for the reboot. Entertainment Weekly reports that Kellan Lutz of Twilight fame is being strongly considered for the lead role as Prince Adam and He-Man, but that was last June when McG was still in the picture.

Fans of He-Man and Masters of the Universe have been waiting 20 years for a proper reboot. »

I Have the Power! Masters of the Universe reboot set for Christmas 2019; McG no longer directing

27 April 2017 6:04 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Scott Davis

By The Power Of Grayskull! After years of back and forth over a mooted adaptation of Masters of the Universe, with many different writers and directors attached to bring the series back to the big screen, Sony have now officially announced a release date for the return to Eternia.

Most recently linked to the project was McG, the filmmaker behind Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation and This Means War, and early last year he stated that he was to make the film and had met Twilight star Kellan Lutz about possibly playing the title role. But with the announcement of the new release date comes news that the director has now exited and the search is on for a new helmer. (via EW).

Indeed, many screenwriters have taken a stab at the screenplay with Christopher Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) and Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) amongst those hired previously. »

First Trailer for 'The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One' Movie

10 April 2017 12:45 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

An intriguing trailer has launched for a new sci-fi movie series titled The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One (or, vice versa, as Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child) from Australian filmmaker Shane Abbess. Described as an "adrenaline-fueled sci fi adventure", the story takes place in the future in a time of interplanetary colonization, about a father who has to rescue a young woman amidst a global crisis. The full cast includes Kellan Lutz, Daniel MacPherson, Isabel Lucas, Luke Ford, Rachel Griffiths, Temuera Morrison, Bren Foster, Dwaine Stevenson, and Teagan Croft. As much as I was expecting this to look cheesy or too low budget, it actually looks pretty damn good, with some impressive visual effects and an interesting story. I don't know if the movie is any good, but I'm very curious about checking this out. Here's the first trailer for Shane Abbess' Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child, »

While Luc Besson is delivering some B-movie sci-fi spectacle on a massive scale this summer, the days of scrappy films in the same genre are few and far between. Enter Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child, the third feature from writer-director Shane Abbess, which is set in a future of interplanetary colonization and follows a father (Daniel MacPherson) searching for his daughter and a convict (Kellan Lutz) who decides to help him.

We said in our review from Fantastic Fest, “The true strength with this blast of a film is that everything is so unexpected. What starts to come across as uninspired SyFy fare quickly does a 180-degree turn and shows us that Abbess and team have something to say, and more importantly, show. From narration to flashbacks to chapter breaks, Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child just gives and gives, and when it ends — brilliantly, by the »

The Osiris Child: Full Trailer Arrives For Shane Abbess' Old School Sci-Fi Spectacle

5 April 2017 9:00 AM, PDT | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

There's an obvious love for old school pulp serials on display in Shane Abbess' scifi spectacle The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One. The title itself is a deliberate nod to old dime store adventure novels and that anything goes aesthetic is very much on display in the way Abbess fuses new school VFX with old school practical creature effects. Set in the future in a time of interplanetary colonisation, Sy (Kellan Lutz), a mysterious drifter, meets Kane (Daniel MacPherson), a lieutenant working for an off-world military contractor, Exor. The unlikely pair must work together to rescue Kane’s young daughter (Teagan Croft) and reach safety amid an impending global crisis which was brought on by Exor itself. Ashley Greene still has plenty of love for her Twilight co-stars.

The 30-year-old actress sat down with Et's Katie Krause on Monday to talk about the last season of her show, Rogue, when she also opened up about her Twilight co-star, Kristen Stewart. Stewart has been notably more open about her personal life since starring in the popular vampire franchise, declaring that she was "so gay" during her Saturday Night Live monologue last month.

"I'm definitely proud of her," Greene tells Et. "I think I read somewhere her saying that now that she's being open and honest and kind of true to herself, that she's much happier and she feels much more comfortable."

Fantasy Fridays: Scully & Mfr Cast Masters Of The Universe!!

10 February 2017 11:08 AM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

We'd like to forget all about the last attempt at a live-action Masters of The Universe movie. Sorry, Dolph! Great hair, though.

Welcome back to another edition of Fantasy Fridays, where two real-life best friends (Jeremy Scully and I, Mario-Francisco Robles) get together to cast/pitch our dream movies.

In the past, we've tackled everything from The Batman to the Universal Monsters.

This week, we turn our attention towards the long-gestating cinematic reboot of Masters of The Universe. Jeremy and I grew up on the classic 80s cartoon, and I had a ton of the old action figures. Yet even we knew, as children, that the 1987 movie starring Dolph Lundgren was crap. That's why we'd like to put our own spin on what the reboot should look/feel like.

Over the years, many filmmakers and various studios have tried and failed to get a Masters of The Universe movie off of the ground. »
