"Why is defiance the anomaly instead of the norm?" Magnolia Picture has debuted the official trailer for Experimenter, directed by Michael Almereyda starring Peter Sarsgaard as social psychologist Stanley Milgram. The film looks at Milgram's controversial studies in the early 1960s at Yale, involving an electric shock administered to "stranger" in the room next door. It would make a nice companion piece with The Stanford Prison Experiment, also at Sundance this year, and also a look at the way humans respond to and take control of authority. In addition to Sarsgaard, the Experimenter cast includes Winona Ryder, Kellan Lutz, Taryn Manning, John Leguizamo, Jim Gaffigan, Dennis Hyasbert & Anton Yelchin. Enjoy. Here's the trailer (+ poster) for Michael Almereyda's Experimenter, in high def on Apple (via YouTube): Famed social psychologist Stanley Milgram (played by Peter Sarsgaard) in 1961 conducts a series of radical behavior experiments at Yale University that test ordinary humans willingness to obey authority. »

Yale University, 1961. Stanley Milgram (Peter Sarsgaard) designs a psychology experiment that still resonates to this day, in which people think they’re delivering painful electric shocks to an affable stranger (Jim Gaffigan) strapped into a chair in another room.
Despite his pleads for mercy, the majority of subjects don’t stop the experiment, administering what they think is a near-fatal electric shock, simply because they’ve been told to do so.
With Nazi Adolf Eichmann’s trial airing in living rooms across America, Milgram strikes a nerve in popular culture and the scientific community with his exploration into people’s tendency to comply with authority. Celebrated in some circles, he is also accused of being a deceptive, manipulative monster, but his wife Sasha (Winona Ryder) stands by him through it all.

This year at Sundance, there were two films about controversial psychological experiments. There was the unsettling "The Stanford Prison Experiment" which is now playing in limited release, and Michael Almereyda's ("Hamlet," "Cymbeline") pointedly named "Experimenter." And the first trailer for the latter has arrived. Peter Sarsgaard leads a stellar ensemble cast which includes Winona Ryder, Jim Gaffigan, Taryn Manning, Anton Yelchin, Kellan Lutz, John Leguizamo, Anthony Edwards, Dennis Haysbert, and more, in the dramatized tale of Stanley Milgram's "obedience research" at Yale in the 1960s. Here's the official synopsis: In 1961, social psychologist Stanley Milgram conducted the "obedience experiments" at Yale University. The experiments observed the responses of ordinary people asked to send harmful electrical shocks to a stranger. Despite pleadings from the person they were shocking, 65 percent of subjects obeyed »

Subjects are told it’s about memory, but the experiment is really about conformity, conscience, and free will. Milgram is trying to come to terms with the Holocaust and to test people’s tendency to comply with authority.

Jude Law was on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and he and Jimmy played a giant game of pool (billiards) bowling, which actually looks really fun and should definitely be a new national pastime. Sit down, baseball.
In his interview, Jude discussed getting an invitation to go down to Bolivia for a carnival, so the president of Bolivia showed up and they did a conga together.
Bryce Dallas Howard was also on "The Tonight Show" and she said she wanted to interview Jimmy about their movie, since he has a cameo in "Jurassic World." Probably smart of them to give him a cameo since it made him gush »

Kellan Lutz has gone from playing a brawny bloodsucker in “Twilight” to torturing contestants on Fox’s new reality competition, “Bullseye.” But while he pulled off some impressive aerial stunts, the actor who played Emmett Cullen in the vampire trilogy revealed on Tuesday that he didn’t come away unscathed. “Check out what I did for my first #Bullseye stunt & Boom! (At the :05 mark) got smacked in the head! But a few staples later, I was all good!” he posted on Instagram, along with a clip of his accident. Kellan Lutz has one desire in life: to hook up with Valerie Cherish on The Comeback. Ok, that may not be his only desire in life, but it's one that is very near and dear to our hearts over here. Lutz, who is the host of Fox's new reality competition Bullseye, told us he wants The Comeback to come back (again) so his character Chris can get his chance with Lisa Kudrow's Valerie Cherish. Yes, season two ended with Val and her husband Marky Mark (Damian Young) reunited, but how great was the flirtation between Val and Chris when he made all those backdoor references. "When they first announced they were doing the sequel to The Comeback, I emailed [co-creator] Michael Patrick King right away. I'm like, »

CBS entry “The Briefcase” was the best performer among the three rookie unscripted series airing on a crowded Wednesday night for reality programs. Fox veteran “MasterChef” was on the rise to lead them all in key demos, but its lead-out “Bullseye” got off to a modest start.
According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “The Briefcase” averaged a 1.3 rating/5 share in adults 18-49 and 6.8 million viewers overall in the 8 o’clock hour — topping the demo scores earlier this month for the debuts of ABC’s “500 Questions” and NBC’s “The Island” (both 1.2) but below the potent 1.8 preliminary rating for the Peacock’s “I Can Do That” on Tuesday, airing behind “America’s Got Talent.” The CBS newcomer also did quite a bit better than “American Baking Competition,” which premiered to a 1.0 demo rating for the net on the comparable Wednesday two years ago.

Inside The Briefcase, CBS found a premiere audience of 6.8 million viewers along with a 1.3 demo rating. The ostensibly heart-tugging reality noob thus was Wednesday’s most watched program, while placing second in the demo to Fox’s MasterChef.
TVLine readers gave The Briefcase an average grade of “D.”

It's unofficially summer, which means that it's a perfect time for Fox to debut a new game show involving Twilight star Kellan Lutz and a bunch of people acting as human darts in an attempt to win $50,000. (Seriously, it's happening! On Wednesdays this summer!) Kellan Lutz undoubtedly deals with cougars (of the human variety) all the time, but it's not every day he finds himself in the company of jungle cats like these! Earlier this week, however, the actor and Bullseye host found himself surrounded by lion, tiger and leopard cubs during a visit to the Black Jaguar White Tiger Foundation in Mexico. The 30-year-old Twilight alum Instagrammed a handful of photos that showed him joyfully playing with the baby animals. One particular snap shows Kellan surrounded by cubs—a few of which are playfully nipping at the him with their tiny teeth! He captioned the adorable pic, "So, I guess I'm apart of the Pride now...@blackjaguarwhitetiger #saveourplanet »
