The Comeback Makes a Comeback in Full-Length Trailer for New Episodes

20 October 2014 9:32 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

HBO has released a full-length The Comeback trailer for the revival of the critically acclaimed but short-lived comedy series starring Lisa Kudrow.  The cult favorite premiered in 2005 to rave reviews, as its mockumentary style followed a washed-up sitcom actress whose “comeback” on a new sitcom was captured by a documentary crew.  In many ways the show was ahead of its time, and Kudrow was magnificent in the lead role.  HBO has resurrected the series for a new six-episode event, and this new trailer shows that everyone is back—yes, even Jane.  This new engagement picks up nine years after the events of the first season, as Kudrow’s Valerie Cherish has been tapped to star in an HBO series.  The trailer is really, really funny, and I can’t wait to devour these new episodes when they premiere on HBO next month. Hit the jump to watch the new The Comeback trailer. »

Seth Rogen Joins The Comeback as Paulie G. — But There's a Twist

15 October 2014 2:25 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Valerie Cherish’s biggest rival is making a Comeback, and Seth Rogen’s got something to do with it.

The Pineapple Express actor will guest-star in the long-awaited second season of HBO’s Lisa Kudrow-fronted comedy, BuzzFeed reports.

Rogen will appear in two episodes as himself, where — patience here, because this is a bit confusing — he will portray a fictional version of Valerie’s showbiz nemesis Paulie G. in a new HBO series written by Paulie G. himself (played by Lance Barber). Valerie will also star in the show-within-a-show, titled Seeing Red, playing an exaggerated version of herself named Mallory Church. »

Summer Film Budgets vs. Total Worldwide Grosses

2 September 2014 6:51 PM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

While studios tout records, market share and No. 1 status based on box office grosses, we thought it’d be a good idea to look at some of this year’s summer films (tentpoles and not) to see how their budgets stacked up against their worldwide grosses to date. These budget numbers do not include domestic/international marketing and distribution costs, nor do they take into account the splits with exhibitors, but they do give an idea of outlay and income. Bear in mind, that while some of the biggest offshore grosses come from China, the studios are only getting a 25% cut from that territory. Also, some of these pictures will end up doing well in home entertainment and may make a profit over time — as in, a few years.

Here are some of the films we were able to compile from smallest to highest budgets with worldwide grosses (and percentage »

The Essential Films & TV to Stream This Week – August 26th 2014

26 August 2014 3:30 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Not a lot to say in the pre-amble to this week’s selection of titles. Should probably apologise for the negativity in advance because a lot of the below is dreck this week across any content provider apart from the occasional bright spot and a new Netflix exclusive. Hopefully you will be able to at least find something worth a look that floats your boat.

This week’s titles of note are as follows:

Gravity (2013)

There really isn’t anymore praise that I can heap on Alfonso Cuaron’s outer space thrill ride that hasn’t been heaped upon it already. Upon repeat viewing what impresses more and more is the technical marvel that this film represents with Gravity being a massive leap forward in the use of virtual sets as well as animation that looks like real people.

There are apparently whole entire scenes here featuring Sandra Bullock and »

Guess Which "Expendables" Are A Couple

18 August 2014 1:02 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

It turns out that a throwaway gag at the end of "The Expendables 3" wasn't as throwaway as expected. Apparently the macho action thriller sequel features a gay couple, and it isn't hunky newbies played by Kellan Lutz or Glen Powell.

Nope. Rather it's Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jet Li's characters. Didn't see that coming did you?

Spoilers Ahead

In one the film's final scenes, Jet Li's Yin Yang, Schwarzenegger's Trench and Stallone's Barney Ross characters are in a bar celebrating and commiserating together. Buzzfeed describes the scene as follows:

"So, you’re working for Trench now?" Ross asks Yang, who responds by just shooting Trench a knowing look and a smile. As Ross turns to walk away, Trench and Yang lean in even closer to each other, grinning so widely, they almost start to giggle.

"You guys want to get a room?" asks Ross.

Which 'Expendables 3' newcomer has the biggest balls? Ronda Rousey, apparently

(Cbr) When the name of your mercenary team is the Expendables, it’s always a good idea to have some newbie cannon fodder on hand. For "The Expendables 3," writer/producer/star Sylvester Stallone once again recruited fresh meat. In addition to genre icons Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas and Wesley Snipes, Stallone set his sights on a selection of fresh faces from the worlds of film and professional fighting. Franchise newcomers include "Twilight" hunk and rising action star Kellan Lutz ("The Legend of Hercules"), mixed martial artist and Ufc women’s champion Ronda Rousey, welterweight boxing champion Victor Ortiz, and emerging actor, writer, producer and stuntman Glen Powell ("Ride Along 2"). Throw in Emmy winner Kelsey Grammer ("Frasier," "Boss"), and the mixture became as volatile as a Molotov cocktail. At a recent press conference, the new recruits sounded off on the fun – and the occasional hard knocks – of joining Stallone’s team. »

Sylvester Stallone: 'Arnie is brilliant... but I want to strangle him'

17 August 2014 8:57 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Sylvester Stallone has made light of his "competitive" rivalry with friend and fellow Expendables star Arnold Schwarzenegger.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show, Stallone jokingly told Jimmy Fallon that "hate is a good word" to describe his feelings towards Schwarzenegger.

"I'd do Rambo, then he'd do Commando..." Stallone began, adding that his agent tricked him into roles by suggesting that his action rival would take it if he didn't.

"I really respect this guy, I think he's brilliant, what he's done, he's had three different careers, but I want to strangle him," he quipped.

Everything we know so far about Star Wars Episode VII

Stallone also revealed that he auditioned for the role of Han Solo in Star Wars, but it didn't go quite to plan.

"I could tell instantly, 'No-one likes you'," he said. "I said, 'I'll make it easier for you, I would look like crap in spandex, »

Film Review: As Title Implies, ‘The Expendables 3’ Totally Expendable

16 August 2014 5:59 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The old man as macho action hero trend has finally calcified. If you haven’t seen either of the two previous “Expendables” pictures – this is definitely not the place to start. Sylvester Stallone’s creaky franchise hits rock bottom.

with this shoddy looking, poorly paced, indifferently acted and overlong exercise in excess on the cheap. It supposedly cost $90 million dollars to make, but what’s onscreen looks like it should have gone direct to video. Some explosions look like they were created with an iPhone.

Rating: 1.0/5.0

The poster promises a Cannon Films era wish list of stars – including new additions Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, and Harrison Ford – in an old school action picture where the body count goes sky high and the bullets never stop flying. Second Opinion – The Expendables (2014)

16 August 2014 4:15 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The Expendables 3, 2014.

Directed by Patrick Hughes.

Starring Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas, Kellan Lutz, Kelsey Grammer, Glen Powell, Ronda Rousey and Victor Ortiz.

Synopsis:

Barney augments his team with new blood for a personal battle: to take down Conrad Stonebanks, the Expendables co-founder and notorious arms trader who is hell bent on wiping out Barney and every single one of his associates.

Watching The Expendables 3, one can’t help but see the irony. In 2010, Sylvester Stallone rounded up a group of fellow action stars to give audiences what they always wanted to see, even if it was two decades too late to have any real significance; 1980s action gods Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Stallone himself sharing the same screen (with a few other C-List names added to make up the numbers). The film was fun, »

‘Expendables 3′: Measuring The Sum Of Its Star Parts In Key Overseas Markets

16 August 2014 4:12 AM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

The Expendables 3 is debuting this weekend in 40 territories including Russia, the UK, Mexico and Australia — and features a powerhouse ensemble that includes Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Dolph Lundgren, Kelsey Grammer and Kellan Lutz.

Together, the cast outweighs the sum of its parts, but the parts are actually quite interesting when looked at in terms of international box-office drawing power, especially in mega markets like China, Korea, Russia, Brazil, and parts of Western Europe. Below, I’ve broken out numbers for some of the individual stars across those markets with a nifty slideshow that covers their last three major titles outside the franchise in these key territories.* The first Expendables film did about $274M worldwide, with $171M from overseas. In an unusual turn of events for a sequel, the franchise’s second film saw its earnings drop in the U. »
