Superheroes Go Dark In "Gods And Secrets"

Following on from his work as a producer on "Dredd" and "The Grey" along with the much talked about "Power/Rangers" fan film, Adi Shankar is set to team with Stewart Yost for his directorial debut effort "Gods And Secrets".

The project is described as a dark drama akin to Alan Moore's "Watchmen" in that it will explore the darker logical underpinnings of superhero tropes in a world in which superheroes exist and the resulting celebrity culture are front and center.

The story deals with what happens when a tragedy strikes the super heroic team Guardians of Justice, and in its aftermath secrets are revealed, lives are changed, and the war to end all wars begins.

Diamond Dallas Page, Jackson Rathbone, Kellan Lutz, Sharni Vinson and Andy Milonakis star in the project. No further specifics about it are available at this time.

Adi Shankar To Direct Watchmen-Inspired Superhero Drama Gods And Secrets For HBO

29 July 2015 1:21 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Adi Shankar, the producer behind the 'Bootleg Universe' one-shot films Power/Rangers & The Punisher: Dirty Laundry and 2012's Dredd will make his directorial debut with HBO's Gods And Secrets. According to Deadline, Shankar will team up with Stewart Yost to co-direct this dark superhero drama that's said to be inspired by Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel, Watchmen. The drama will feature an original team named 'Guardians Of Justice', and explore the more secretive and shady aspects of celebrity culture by applying it to superheroes. The series is set to star WWE's Diamond Dallas Page, Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga), Kellan Lutz (The Legend Of Hercules), Sharni Vinson (You're Next) and Andy Milonakis. The core premise appears intruiging, while the project's placement on HBO should be enough to pique most people's interest. Peter Sarsgaard as Stanley Milgram in Official 'Experimenter' Trailer

23 July 2015 1:01 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"Why is defiance the anomaly instead of the norm?" Magnolia Picture has debuted the official trailer for Experimenter, directed by Michael Almereyda starring Peter Sarsgaard as social psychologist Stanley Milgram. The film looks at Milgram's controversial studies in the early 1960s at Yale, involving an electric shock administered to "stranger" in the room next door. It would make a nice companion piece with The Stanford Prison Experiment, also at Sundance this year, and also a look at the way humans respond to and take control of authority. In addition to Sarsgaard, the Experimenter cast includes Winona Ryder, Kellan Lutz, Taryn Manning, John Leguizamo, Jim Gaffigan, Dennis Hyasbert & Anton Yelchin. Enjoy. Here's the trailer (+ poster) for Michael Almereyda's Experimenter, in high def on Apple (via YouTube): Famed social psychologist Stanley Milgram (played by Peter Sarsgaard) in 1961 conducts a series of radical behavior experiments at Yale University that test ordinary humans willingness to obey authority. »

New Poster And Trailer For Experimenter Stars Peter Sarsgaard and Winona Ryder

Watch the new trailer for director Michael Almereyda’s Experimenter starring Winona Ryder and Peter Sarsgaard.

Yale University, 1961. Stanley Milgram (Peter Sarsgaard) designs a psychology experiment that still resonates to this day, in which people think they’re delivering painful electric shocks to an affable stranger (Jim Gaffigan) strapped into a chair in another room.

Despite his pleads for mercy, the majority of subjects don’t stop the experiment, administering what they think is a near-fatal electric shock, simply because they’ve been told to do so.

With Nazi Adolf Eichmann’s trial airing in living rooms across America, Milgram strikes a nerve in popular culture and the scientific community with his exploration into people’s tendency to comply with authority. Celebrated in some circles, he is also accused of being a deceptive, manipulative monster, but his wife Sasha (Winona Ryder) stands by him through it all.
