Britney Spears to Judge X-Factor?

I wanted to start this post off by quoting “Gimme More’s” opening line, “It’s Britney, bitch,” but somehow I just can’t bring myself to enthusiastically use that line to celebrate the signing of Britney Spears as a new judge on Season 2 of Fox’s X-Factor. I have grown up alongside this pop star’s entire career, from her humble beginnings, to her sexy phase, mental breakdown and various marriages, and finally coming to what is supposed to be her big career comeback. I’m not sure what to take from her decision to move back into reality TV territory. How is that supposed to help her musical career?

Last November, we heard about the first provocative project for Disney starlet Selena Gomez following in the footsteps of Vanessa Hudgens as the two ladies keep working to shed their sweet Mickey Mouse image in Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers the story of four college girls who rob a restaurant to afford their trip to the beach until a drug and arms dealer (James Franco) wants them to do some dirty work. The rumors about Britney Spears joining the X-Factor have been swirling for awhile, but now E! is reporting that the pop princess has signed a $15 million deal to be a judge/mentor on the show alongside Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid. This will be the first television project since her reality show Britney & Kevin: Chaotic with then-husband Kevin Federline. This will also be her very first time sitting at a table with Simon Cowell every week as the world watches.

It's just been announced that Russell Brand will host this year's MTV Movie Awards on June 3rd. This is his first time hosting the show, though he did previously host the 2009 VMAs where he famously met — and put the moves on — Katy Perry. Who knows, now that he and Perry have called it quits will he find a new wife while hosting the movie awards?

Britney Spears is to join Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid as a judge on The X Factor. Spears finally inked her deal this week, E! News reported. Spears will get $15 million for one season's worth of work. Cowell fired judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones based on lackluster ratings and critical chatter. This will be Britney's first network TV project since her short-lived Britney & Kevin: her cringe-worthy series with ex-husband Kevin Federline. Cowell and Fox will announce the fourth judge at the fall schedule at the upfronts on Monday. »

After countless rumors and seemingly endless reports of negotiations, Britney Spears has officially signed on to join "The X Factor" as a judge. E! News is reporting that Spears inked the deal earlier this week. She'll get $15 million for one season on the singing competition.
"The contract is signed," a source tells the publication. "There's been a lot of back and forth over the past few weeks as they negotiated the small details, but she's on. It's all completed and Britney is beyond excited."
The source continues, "She can't wait to sit down next to Simon [Cowell] at the judges' table and give this everything she's got. She is excited about showing the world that she can do this, and do this well. This is the perfect next stage in her career. Both Britney and Simon are very excited to work together."
A Fox spokesperson had no comment on the report. »

Since they are about to be married, it makes complete sense for Britney Spears's fiance, Jason Trawick, to now be one of her conservators, or people who are legally responsible for her. Fan fiction is all the rage and if you need evidence just look at the New York Times bestseller list, where "50 Shades of Grey," which was originally developed from an erotic "Twilight" fan fiction entitled "Master of the Universe," is a huge hit and has kind of opened the flood gates.
The latest addition to the cannon: "Pop Baby Krissy Doucet," about an out-of-work dancer ("Keenan Fazio") who strikes the fancy of pop princess Krissy Doucet. A blurb from the book indicates "Krissy" becomes so smitten with "Keenan" she can barely think straight.

Hollywood Publicist Dies After Choking On Deli Meat

Michael Sands, the famed Hollywood publicist behind Mr. Blackwell's Annual Worst-Dressed List, has died after choking on deli meat in an upscale supermarket in Los Angeles, The Wrap reports.
Sands' son told reporters his father started choking on a sample of beef. Sands suffered from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease. The 66-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene for five minutes, then revived and taken to Cedars Sinai hospital.
At the hospital, Sands was placed in a medically induced coma to prevent inflammation of the brain (a common medical procedure in cases like this). Ultimately, however Sands did not survive.
The deli incident took place on March 24 and Sands passed away on April 6, but the news had not been reported until today.
Though his death was -- to say the least -- unexpected in nature, Sands' life was also quite interesting. Sands was a gifted publicist and a tireless promoter, his own career notwithstanding. »
