Over the weekend, Disney hosted its overly successful D23 expo, detailing early plans for Pixar sequels such as Finding Dory and Toy Story 4, offering the stage to Star Wars: The Force Awakens at one point and, in an announcement that quietly flew under the radar, unveiled its new take on Jack and the Beanstalk in the form of Gigantic.
Billed as an animated musical, the studio’s project will be situated in Spain during the famed Age of Discovery of the early 15th century. With Europe’s superpowers hitting the high seas in search of land, exploration has taken precedent across the continent. But for Jack, he’ll have his eyes trained on the skies after crossing paths with a child princess, one who just so happens to be a giantess.

Walt Disney Animation Studios has revealed that they will be making an animated Jack and the Beanstalk film titled Gigantic.
Gigantic, which was announced at Disney’s D23 Expo, will be a musical set in Spain during the Age of Exploration. Songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the Oscar-winning team behind Disney’s Frozen, are on board to write the songs for the film, while Nathan Greno (Tangled) will direct and Dorothy McKim will produce.
The film will tell the story of Jack, a man who discovers a world of giants in the sky, and a giant named Inma, a feisty, 11-year-old girl. The two become friends and embark on an epic adventure together.
On tackling such a classic tale, Greno said, “We hope this will be the definitive version of Jack and the Beanstalk… with comedy and deep emotion.”

Filmmakers from Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios introduced D23 Expo 2015 fans to an array of new stories and characters—from a lost dinosaur to a master wayfinder, a scheming fox to a forgetful fish.
The audience of 7,500 was treated to sneak peeks, musical performances and appearances from stars like Ellen DeGeneres, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, Ginnifer Goodwin, Dwayne Johnson, Randy Newman and Ty Burrell, among others.
