Mini Bio (1)
In his late teens, after watching the play This is our Youth, Max decided that he wanted to pursue acting and dropped out of school to join the National Youth Theatre.
He had a small part as an extra in Cold Mountain, directed by his father, but his first proper movie role was with Richard Gere in the commercially poorly received Bee Season. Inspite of slating the movie as a whole most critics gave Max credit for his strong performance.
Max went on to a small role in the thriller Syriana, playing the son of George Clooneys character.
He then landed the leading role in Art School Confidential, acting opposite more acting heavyweights like Jim Broadbent and John Malkovich.
He went on to the dark romantic movie, Elvis and Anabelle, where he played a mortician, to the 4th Century epic Agora, starring Rachel Weisz. Here Max played a slave, Davus.
He then took some smaller roles in some critically acclaimed movies such as the Social Network and Ides of March.
Other recent roles include the villainous Graham in The Internship and Ben in the horror flick The Darkest Hour. Neither movie received good reviews.
Next Max will be seen playing Lee Torneau in the adaptation of Joe Hills novel Horns with Daniel Ratcliffe and Juno Temple.
Max now lives in the states.
