‘Jigsaw’ Trailer & Poster

7 August 2017 6:12 PM, PDT | Age of the Nerd | See recent Age of the Nerd news »

Jigsaw‘ has revealed it’s first trailer and a new teaser poster. It’s been seven whole long years since we were last graced with the release of a Saw film, with the previous entry in the franchise ‘Saw 3D‘ released in 2010. Although Jigsaw himself, Tobin Bell, is set to return — we still don’t know to what capacity.

The film was originally titled ‘Saw: Legacy‘ but was then changed to ‘Jigsaw‘ after principal photography was completed. Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger wrote the script, and Michael and Peter Spierig directed the film, which is due for an October 2017 release. The sequel stars Callum Keith Rennie as “Halloran”, Clé Bennett as “Det. Keith”, and Laura Vandervoort as “Anna”.

Here’s the official trailer and poster for ‘Jigsaw‘:

A Glowering John Kramer Looms Over Jigsaw’s Comic-Con Poster

21 July 2017 11:29 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The Jigsaw Killer gets a new lease of life – quite literally, as it were – in this blood-red Sdcc poster for Jigsaw.

It is, in essence, the eighth entry into Lionsgate’s time-honored Saw franchise, one that’s coming by way of directing duo Michael and Peter Spierig. Best known for their work on Daybreakers, the Spierig siblings are still relatively new when it comes to Hollywood’s horror scene, but when asked to describe how they approached the cult series, Michael Spierig hinted that Jigsaw is “Saw for 2017.” That means it’s safe to expect more nightmare fuel and wildly inventive demented traps than you can shake a pig’s mask at, and though Lionsgate’s franchise has fallen by the wayside in recent years, in 2017, Halloween belongs to Jigsaw. And long may he reign.

Mind you, given that Tobin Bell’s sick, twisted psychopath bit the bullet in Saw III, »

Creepy Jigsaw Stills Tease Danger At Every Corner

21 July 2017 5:31 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

“Become Jigsaw.”

Fueling rumors that Michael and Peter Spierig’s upcoming horror sequel focuses on John Kramer’s twisted disciples, and not the man himself, yesterday Lionsgate rolled out a slew of stark one-sheets for Jigsaw and, well, let’s just say they weren’t your average character posters. Rather than placing the spotlight on the film’s ensemble cast, each portrait featured a loyal follower of Kramer’s, replete with blood-drenched pig mask to drive the point home: these protégés intend to bring about a new reign of terror, and in the fallout of Jigsaw‘s first teaser trailer, horror fans are already reeling at the wild traps in store.

Working from a script composed by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, the Spierig Brothers have been tasked with pumping fresh blood into one of horror’s modern-day favorites, and when Michael Spierig was asked to deliver an elevator pitch for Jigsaw, »

The official Jigsaw trailer was revealed at San Diego Comic-con. Jigsaw is the eighth film in the Saw franchise and will release just in time for Halloween.

Not a lot aside from the teaser posters and trailer have been made available for fans, but it has been confirmed that Tobin Bell will appear in some capacity.

The cast also includes Mandela Van Peebles, Laura Vandervoort, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert, and James Gomez.

Jigsaw was written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (Piranha 3D and Sorority Row). Directed by the Spierig brothers, Peter and Michael, who directed Daybreakers and Predestination.

In the trailer, the detectives reveal that Jigsaw’s DNA was discovered under a victim’s fingernails, which obviously stumps them since "The Saw killer" has been dead for ten years now. However, this »

Halloween Belongs To Jigsaw In This Horrifying First Trailer For Saw Sequel

20 July 2017 9:30 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Remember when Jigsaw co-director Michael Spierig (Daybreakers) promised some “pretty wild traps” ahead of October’s Saw sequel?

Well, thanks to the film’s blood-curdling first trailer, we now have an idea of the horrors in store, and it seems as though the twisted legacy of John Kramer has taken on a new form. Tobin Bell’s demented serial killer actually bit the bullet during Saw III in 2006, so Michael and Peter Spierig have been quick to play down talk of Bell returning – either via flashback or some form of unexpected appearance. That doesn’t necessarily mean that a cameo is completely out of the question though – the film is called Jigsaw, after all – particularly when you consider the fact that John Kramer’s voice can be heard in today’s first-look teaser. “The truth will set you free.”

From there, the nightmare-inducing footage cuts to some form of containment »

The Eighth Film In The Saw Franchise Gets A Name And Logo

22 June 2017 10:57 AM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

It's been about 13 years since the first installment of the Saw films hit the big screen. The film was based on a story by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, and it was also directed by Wan. It starred Cary Elwes, Danny Glover, Monica Potter and Tobin Bell. Overall, it grossed over $100 million dollars worldwide, and because of it's low budget it was very profitable. One remarkable note about the film was that it was shot in 18 days. The overall success of the the film with audiences allowed the studios to go ahead with a sequel. To this day they have continued to make the films the latest one being Saw 3D, which was directed by Kevin Greutert.

Now the eighth film in the franchise from Lionsgate has an official title: Jigsaw. The announcement came via Twitter on the official Saw page. You can see the image of the logo above. »

Who said 'no'? How dare you. Well, hard cheese, because the eighth movie in the franchise - Jigsaw - is just around the corner, and we now have the first trailer for it.

Have a look...

This sort-of reboot is directed by Peter and Michael Spierig, the brothers behind the surprisingly good Ethan Hawke sci-fi flicks Daybreakers and Predestination, so we're cautiously optimistic about it.

"We've got some pretty wild traps in the film – we don't shy away from the gore. It's such a perfect Halloween scarefest. It's perhaps not quite as vicious and more fun," Peter told fans recently.

Ahh, go on then.

Saw: Legacy has been retitled Jigsaw

21 June 2017 12:08 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The eighth film in the Saw franchise has been given a new name, swapping Saw: Legacy for the title Jigsaw.

This will be the first Saw instalment in seven years and is to be directed by siblings Peter and Michael Spierig from a script by Pete Goldfinger, Josh Stolberg, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell.

The Saw franchise started back in 2004 and revolved around the murderous exploits of John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, who uses gruesome traps to torture his victims, forcing them to play a game to escape.

The movie was shot last November and will release four days before Halloween this year on October 27th in the Us.

The synopsis for Jigsaw reads: “Dead bodies begin to turn up all over the city, each meeting their demise in a variety of grisly ways. All investigations begin to point the finger at deceased killer John Kramer.”

Tobin Bell will be returning as Jigsaw in some capacity.

Jigsaw has been directed by Peter and Michael Spierig (Predestination), and features a cast that includes Mandela Van Peebles, Hannah Anderson, Laura Vandervoort, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert, and James Gomez. Saw 8: Legacy Gets Retitled Jigsaw, New Logo Unveiled

21 June 2017 9:16 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Oh, what a Halloween we'll have this year. There are plenty of ghouls and goblins heading towards the local cinema. But perhaps more awaited is the return of Jigsaw! Yes, John Kramer will be back this October as the Saw legacy continues. The eighth movie in the series, this latest installment promises to rejuvenate the horror franchise after laying dormant for several years. Today, we have the official logo along with these words from Lionsgate.

"One of the highest grossing Horror franchises of all time is back, taking the Jigsaw killer's signature brand of twisted scenarios to the next level."

As previously reported, Jigsaw will be in theaters the weekend of Halloween, starting October 27, 2017. Lionsgate did not offer any more on the story, but we do have some ideas about where this particular installment is heading. The story takes place seven years after Saw: The Final Chapter. And it stars Laura Vandervoort (Bitten, Smallville) and Hannah Anderson (Shoot the Messenger, Lizzie Borden Took an Ax) in the leads.

It was previously reported that Tobin Bell will be back as the main villain John Kramer, albeit via flashbacks as he's been dead since the third Saw movie, unless there is something sinister afoot that we don't yet know. Michael and Peter Spierig of Daybreakers fame are helming this latest installment. Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg are penning the screenplay with help from original creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Producers include Mark Burg, Gregg Hoffman, and Oren Koules.

As far as John Kramer is concerned, early reports on the film indicated that he'll be back in a limited capacity. A glorified cameo. He is the Mickey Mouse of this saga, introduced 14 years ago, at a time when Saw was considered a breakthrough in the horror genre. It not only spawned 6 sequels and healthy filmmaking careers for James Wan and Leigh Whannell, but it also started a Halloween tradition that ran straight through for seven very successful years. For a couple of years, Paranormal Activity stood in its place while it hibernated. But now the iconic series is raring and ready to go, with its pig masks back in place.

Set photos revealed that there will be some grave robbing going down in the opening moments of this next installment. And these bodies turn up all over the city. Each corpse has met their own unique demise. An investigation gets underway. And all fingers point to John Kramer, aka Jigsaw. But how can this be? Jigsaw has been dead for more than a decade. The belief is that an apprentice has stepped in to pick up the mantle left behind by Kramer. And the clues may lead to someone embedded within the investigation. Neither Costas Mandylor nor Cary Elwes, both exposed as Kramer apprentices in past installments, are returning in Jigsaw, unless their appearance is planned as a surprise for fans. Though not officially confirmed by Lionsgate, the rest of the cast is believed to include Mandela Van Peebles, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert, and James Gomez.

Jon Cor's Ryan from the last installment, 2010's Saw 3D, is rumored to be back in this sequel. Though it isn't known how much time he gets in the overall plot. Ryan was seen in the opening trap with Sebastian Pigot's Brad in Saw 7. Writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan previously revealed in that film's commentary track for the Blu-ray and DVD release, that it was Ryan and Brad who were wearing the pig masks at the end of the film, leading to speculation they may be the ones who unearth Jigsaw's grave in this new installment. Jigsaw died in Saw III, but he has been featured through flashbacks in ever subsequent Saw movie. With Tobin Bell returning here, it sounds like Saw fans are in for an old school treat that will terrorize their soul. While we await the first teaser trailer, take a look at the official logo. »

Eighth ‘Saw’ Movie Gets a New Name

21 June 2017 8:34 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Lionsgate has swapped the title of its eighth “Saw” film from “Saw: Legacy” to “Jigsaw.”

The horror franchise revolves around the fictional character John Kramer, also called the “Jigsaw Killer” or “Jigsaw,” who traps victims in situations that test their will to live. “Jigsaw” will open four days before Halloween on Oct. 27 in the U.S., followed by international launches in early 2018.

The movie was shot in November and is in post-production. Variety reported in January that Laura Vandervoort and Hannah Anderson had been announced as the first actors. Tobin Bell has played Jigsaw in the previous films

The film — the first “Saw” title in seven years — is directed by the sibling team of Peter and Michael Spierig from a script by Pete Goldfinger, Josh Stolberg, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell. Producers are Mark Burg, Gregg Hoffman, and Oren Koules, the trio that has produced all eight films.

Lionsgate has long specialized in genre fare such as the “Saw” franchise, produced by Twisted Pictures. The original “Saw” cost $1.2 million in 2004 and was Wan’s feature film directorial debut from a screenplay by Whannell. Cary Elwes, Danny Glover, Monica Potter, Michael Emerson, Ken Leung, Tobin Bell, and Whannell starred.

The first seven “Saw” films grossed more than $870 million worldwide combined. The Spierig brothers’ credits include 2003’s “Undead” and 2009’s “Daybreakers.”

The announcement about the name change came on Wednesday through the horror series’ official Twitter account.

Eighth Saw Movie Will Release As Jigsaw After All

21 June 2017 7:44 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Saw: Legacy has been given a facelift.

The eighth installment in Lionsgate’s time-honored horror franchise will release as Jigsaw on October 27th, 2017, signaling that John Kramer’s unspeakable reign of terror isn’t over yet. Tobin Bell’s demented serial killer actually bit the bullet during Saw III in 2006, and has since appeared in subsequent sequels via flashback. However, it would appear that Bell’s time in the Saw franchise is far from over, after the actor took to Twitter back in May to tease the seemingly inevitable return of The Jigsaw Killer.

Directed by franchise newcomers Michael and Peter Spierig (Daybreakers) from a script by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg (Piranha 3D), the prequel-sequel formerly known as Saw: Legacy will feature a cast comprised of Mandela Van Peebles, Laura Vandervoort, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert and James Gomez.

Exactly how Tobin Bell fits into that ensemble – if at all – is up for question. The official logline for Jigsaw points to a Kramer resurgence though, one that will either stem from the man himself or some form of disciple eager to continue the legacy for a new generation. Yikes!

Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade. Or has an apprentice picked up the mantle of Jigsaw, perhaps even someone inside the investigation?

It’s official: the eighth Saw film will launch into theatres on October 27th bearing the title Jigsaw. It’s currently been set opposite Cloverfield 3, a starry sci-fi pic that has been secretly masquerading as God Particle ever since Julius Onah’s thriller was shoehorned into Paramount and Bad Robot’s interconnected universe. »

Jigsaw Revealed as Official Title for New Saw Movie

21 June 2017 7:32 AM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

John Kramer's influence is far reaching and his desire to play deadly games seemingly never ceases, so it's fitting, then, that Lionsgate has officially revealed the title of the next Saw film to be Jigsaw.

Scheduled for an October 27th, 2017 release, Jigsaw is directed by Michael and Peter Spierig (Predestination, Daybreakers, Undead) from a screenplay by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (who previously worked on the screenplays for Piranha 3D and Sorority Row). The franchise's producers Mark Burg, Gregg Hoffman, and Oren Koules are all returning for Jigsaw.

A sequel of sorts that's unsurprisingly rated R, Jigsaw is set in the cinematic world created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, which kicked off with the 2003 short film Saw, followed by a feature film version of the same name that made a big impact on the modern horror scene and was continued in six sequels.

The cast of Jigsaw includes Mandela Van Peebles, Laura Vandervoort, Hannah Anderson, and Brittany Allen, with Tobin Bell potentially returning to reprise his role as John Kramer, aka Jigsaw.

We'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are revealed. In the meantime, let us know what you hope to see in Jigsaw, and check out the teaser image shared on the official Saw Facebook page below:
