Box Office: ‘Ted 2′ Stumbles to $32.9 Million Opening, ‘Jurassic World’ Tops With $54.2 Million

28 June 2015 7:56 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The party wasn’t as wild the second time around.

Universal’s “Ted 2″ debuted to an underwhelming $32.9 million across 3,442 theaters, roughly $15 million less than most analysts expected the pot-smoking teddy bear comedy would bring in during its opening weekend.

“Having those Omg moments are tougher to pull off,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Rentrak. “The shock value goes away.”

Perhaps the over familiarity hobbled “Ted 2,” but its mellow-harshing start is also attributable to the presence of two box office juggernauts in Disney/Pixar’s “Inside Out” and Universal’s “Jurassic World,” which racked up $52.1 million and $54.2 million, respectively.

Jurassic World” now ranks as the fifth highest-grossing domestic release of all time with $500 million in Stateside receipts, behind “The Dark Knight’s” $534.8 million haul. It marks the third consecutive weekend that the dinosaur thriller has topped North American charts, and the fastest that a film has ever crossed the $500 million mark. »

Mark Wahlberg on Ted 2, the Absurdity of the First Movie, Transformers 5, and More

27 June 2015 11:26 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

In 2012, the adorable, foul-mouthed teddy bear, Ted (voiced by Seth MacFarlane), made his film debut and quickly became the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time. Now, the outrageous Ted and his thunder buddy John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) are back in Ted 2, as Ted finds himself in a fight to be declared human, and not the property of someone else. In an attempt to sue the state and win Ted the rights that he deserves, they enlist a young, medical-marijuana aficionada named Samantha L. Jackson (Amanda Seyfried) who believes that Ted is entitled to the same freedoms as any American. During this exclusive phone interview with Collider, done while he was in London to promote the film, Mark Wahlberg talked about how the edgy humor combined with heart really won over audiences of the first film, why he was initially hesitant about signing on for such an absurd-sounding idea, »

Watch Mark Wahlberg, Fallon Shoot Each Other in the Head on 'Tonight'

26 June 2015 10:05 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Jimmy Fallon, the master of making celebrity guests look silly, enlisted Ted 2 star Mark Wahlberg for a game of "Headshots" on The Tonight Show, which found the duo attempting to shoot random items off each other's heads. As usual with Fallon games, the whole thing feels improvised and a bit scattered, but everyone in the studio gets a kick out of watching objects explode in slow-motion.

Walhberg tests his aim by smacking Fallon in the face mask, and he earns his first point by smashing up a bowl of ping-pong balls. »

Movie Review: Ted 2

26 June 2015 9:20 AM, PDT | CinemaNerdz | See recent CinemaNerdz news »

Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane are back as John Bennett and his childhood stuffed bear Ted in the new film Ted 2. For those not familiar with the first film, Ted comes to life after a Christmas wish a younger John makes. Fast forward to the present, and both are grown up losers (of the lovable variety), smoking weed and drinking beer through life. A few years have passed in between the first movie and the sequel, and some things have changed. John is now divorced, and, as Ted 2 opens, Ted is marrying his one true love Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth).

The film’s conflict begins once the honeymoon is over. Ted and Tami-Lynn are fighting more than expected and after some advice from a fellow cashier, Ted and Tami-Lynn decide to have a baby. The only problem is, Ted is a living stuffed animal with no working parts. Through »

Tom Brady’s ‘Perfect Balls’ and Deflategate Scandal Butt of ‘Ted 2’ Joke (Video)

25 June 2015 9:00 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Tom Brady filmed his cameo appearance on “Ted 2” long before the Deflategate scandal that ultimately landed him in an appeal hearing that began this week. However, that didn’t stop the biggest challenge of the New England Patriots Qb’s career from ending up in the raucous comedy. Boston native and die-hard Patriots fan Mark Wahlberg has made it very clear that he supports Brady in his fight against the NFL suspension, and his character John Bennett is a big admirer of the Super Bowl Champion’s too. The original scene depicted Brady sleeping in bed as John and »

Film Review: ‘Ted 2’ is a Funnier Film Than it Deserves to Be

25 June 2015 5:52 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – While it’s cruder and it can’t quite match the original “Ted,” “Ted 2” is still funnier than it has any right to be. It is unmistakably a Seth MacFarlane production, and there are a million reasons why this movie shouldn’t work, chief among them a plot that attempts to plop a foul mouthed talking teddy bear into a moralistic legal parable about civil rights. But I can’t deny I laughed throughout, almost despite myself.

Rating: 3.5/5.0

It’s less a movie than a collection of scenes strung back to back. After an elaborate and largely joyless Busby Berkeley inspired title sequence, the plot revolves around Ted and new wife Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth). When they try to adopt a baby, the government challenges Ted’s personhood and declares him property instead. So Ted and buddy Mark Wahlberg enlist a pot-smoking civil rights lawyer (Amanda Seyfried) to take his case, »

He's baccckkk!  On Friday, Ted 2, the sequel to Seth MacFarlane's raunchy comedy hits theaters, which will see teddy bear Ted return to the big screen in all his foul-mouthed glory.  This time around, Ted and his wife Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth) want to have a baby, but the government decides Ted is not a person, so, with pal Mark Wahlberg, who also starred in the original flick, by his side, the raunchy bear goes to court to argue his case.  Amanda Seyfriend also stars as Ted's marijuana-loving lawyer and the film features a number of guest stars, including Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson and even Tom Brady. But what do critics have to say about the stuffed-animal sequel? Take a »

Ted 2 Is Pointlessly Irreverent, But Parts of It Work Anyway

25 June 2015 9:58 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

No movie in which Mark Wahlberg and a talking teddy bear break into Tom Brady’s house and try to jack him off in his sleep in an attempt to harvest his sperm can be entirely bad. And Ted 2, for a good chunk of its first half, manages to live up (down?) to the surreal grossness all that implies. It’s a hell of a thing, making a dirty movie about a teddy bear that’s come to life; you can get away with all sorts of stuff ordinary movies can’t. You can show a bunch of guys watching bears screwing on TV and have one of them yell in anguish, “Hey! That’s someone’s daughter!” And you can make a lot of dick jokes — I mean a lot of dick jokes — because, of course, teddy bears don’t have dicks.Ted 2 begins with Ted (voiced »

'Ted 2' (2015) Movie Review

24 June 2015 12:57 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Seth MacFarlane is funny, no doubt, but he's quickly proven he's not a filmmaker, or, at least not a very good one. Whether you love Ted or can even stomach A Million Ways to Die in the West, you may remember laughing at either film, but you won't come away believing they were made by a director with any kind of substantial control over storytelling, editing or direction. A Million Ways to Die in the West is best left forgotten, both comically and narratively, and Ted was about as cliche as they come outside of the fact it centered on a talking, drug and sex-addicted teddy bear with a foul mouth. Admittedly, the concept is comical, and in the early going the first film had its share of laughs before it became redundant and tiresome. That said, when it comes to Ted 2 I will admit I laughed even more. »

Film Review: ‘Ted 2′

24 June 2015 4:00 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The magical teddy bear with the heart of gold and the mouth of potty is back in “Ted 2,” and so is writer-director-star Seth MacFarlane’s mischievous mojo, which went missing somewhere in last year’s mirthless comic Western “A Million Ways to Die in the West.” A sequel to MacFarlane’s surprise 2013 smash ($549 million worldwide), “Ted 2” is surely the last movie one would expect to find quoting from the anthropologist Dawn Prince-Hughes’ writings on the essence of human consciousness. But in its own, sweetly subversive way, this might be just the tolerance plea America needs right now — a movie that says, in effect, “Love thy plushie as thyself.” Fret not: Such high-mindedness has little diminished MacFarlane’s appetite for locker-room humor, gross-out sight gags and bounteous pop-culture in-jokes, which should make “Ted 2” the season’s go-to attraction for arrested-adolescent males of all ages, and continue Universal’s beary good summer box office. »

'Ted 2' Star Jessica Barth Talks Film's Boundary-Pushing Jokes & Tami-Lynn's Tight Wedding Dress!

23 June 2015 3:30 PM, PDT | TooFab | See recent TooFab news »

One scene of "Ted 2" finds the foul-mouthed furball arguing with Mark Wahlberg over who should manually pleasure Tom Brady in his sleep, so they can use his uh ... stuff ... to inseminate the teddy's wife. Yep, the bawdy bear is back in the sequel to the 2012 hit, with a film that will shock, surprise and, hopefully, leave the audience in stitches. But, were any of the film's jokes cause for concern for the stars on set? Jessica Barth, who plays Ted's #1 girl Tami-Lynn, opened up about making the Seth MacFarlane flick with toofab's Brian Particelli -- addressing everything from pushing the lines of good taste to that Boston accent.  "I tend to trust Seth creatively with anything, so I know going into it, just like anybody knows going into a Seth MacFarlane film, you know it's going to be random humor, pushing the envelope," she says of the questionably offensive material. »

‘Entourage’ Opens Solidly With $2 Million on Tuesday Night

3 June 2015 7:19 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Warner Bros.’ “Entourage” has launched respectably with $2 million in Tuesday night previews that started at 7 p.m.

The comedy is expanding to 3,108 sites Wednesday. Warner Bros. decided in the spring to move the debut forward two days — separating it from 20th Century Fox’s comedy “Spy” and Gramercy’s “Insidious: Chapter 3.” It’s also facing the second weekend of Warner’s “San Andreas,” which dominated the box office in its opening.

Online ticket service Fandango reported Tuesday that “Entourage” had accounted for 50% of its daily sales. Recent projections have placed “Entourage” with forecasts of about $20 million for the Friday-Sunday period, four years after the HBO series ended.

Original cast members Kevin Connolly, Jerry Ferrara, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven reprise their roles. Series creator Doug Ellin directed from his own script. Mark Wahlberg, Rob Weiss and Stephen Levinson produce.

The film features dozens of cameos including Common, »
