Jon Favreau Won’t Be Directing Iron Man 3, Visiting the Magic Kingdom Instead

15 December 2010 10:00 AM, PST | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Earlier this month, we brought you the news that Marvel Studios was location scouting in Troy, New York for the production of Iron Man 3. Director Jon Favreau (Cowboys & Aliens) also dropped some info about the third installment, saying that Iron Man 3 would actually be more of a sequel or continuation of Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: The First Avenger, and the Joss Whedon directed team-up, The Avengers, than a follow-up to Iron Man 2.

Now, NYMag reports that Favreau will not be directing the third installment of the Iron Man franchise. The director will however be sticking with Marvel’s parent company for his next film, directing Magic Kingdom for Walt Disney Pictures.

Favreau confirmed the news on Twitter – saying,

It’s true, I’m directing Magic Kingdom, not Iron Man 3. I’ve had a great run with Marvel and wish them the best.

The director then told the La Times, »

Thor Trailer Arrives

10 December 2010 5:36 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Technically we've already seen a trailer for Thor, or at least most of us have. It leaked back in the summer and a lot of people had the chance to see it before it was removed from the internet. Now it's out officially, no more worries of having it removed. Boasting a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo and Adriana Barraza, this is definitely one I'm excited about. I know buzz on the internet hasn't been extremely positive but my hopes are high. I'm not a big fan of the character Thor, in fact I know very little about him. What has me most excited here is the cast and now that we get the official trailer, my excitement is only higher. Check it out below. »

30 New Movie Images from Thor!

10 December 2010 5:04 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Thanks to Paramount/Marvel releasing the first official trailer (the leaked one from Comic-Con doesn’t count) for Thor, we’ve got a ton of new images to look at!  Granted they’re taken from the trailer, but so much is happening in the two minutes that I decided to screengrab 30 single images so you could see a bit more of what’s going on.

I will say after visiting the set earlier this year (watch my video blog here), the trailer reveals a tremendous amount that the casual fan won’t notice.  But if you watched my recap of the set visit and heard me talk about what I saw and learned, you might notice some of those huge moments.  I’ll tease you by saying Marvel does a great job editing certain things so you can’t tell you’re watching scenes from the finale cut to scenes »

This summer, a 5-minute reel from San Diego Comic-Con leaked online, giving all of us a look at Kenneth Branagh‘s Thor. Now, Paramount has debuted the official trailer. The comic book movieattempts to take Iron Man‘s early May slot to kick of the summer season. I’m not terribly interested in the character of Thor, but the trailer looks decent, and with Branagh at the helm, I’ll be there. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgard, Jaimie Alexander, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Josh Dallas, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba, Clark Gregg, and Colm Feore. Trailer for Thor Starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman

10 December 2010 4:19 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The trailer for Kenneth Branagh’s Thor has gone online. It’s comprised mostly of the footage that was shown at Comic-Con (and later leaked online), but I think this trailer is better cut together. It’s clear that they’ve done some nifty effects work in the past five months, and I think this is a solid first trailer that will get people interested. It’s worth nothing that I’ve never been one of the people that think the costumes or sets look cheesy. I dig the aesthetic they’re going for and it feels like it will be a fresh spin on the superhero genre.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Thor stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Rene Russo, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Clark Gregg, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson, Joshua Dallas, Tadanobu Asano, and Anthony Hopkins. It opens in 3D on May 6, 2011.

‘Thor’ Trailer

10 December 2010 4:13 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

In late July we saw a leaked version [1] of the Comic Con trailer for Thor. The very unofficial release spread like wildfire, but Marvel Studios managed to scrub it away from many corners of the web. Now the official trailer release is out, and you can see it after the break. Head to Yahoo [2] to see the HD version of the trailer. This is mostly the same trailer we saw leaked months ago, which is built from the few minutes of footage shown at Comic Con. We see Asgard, Thor's arrival on Earth, the Frost Giants (a new shot or two there) and Destroyer. The effects seem a bit more polished, but that's about it. I still like the very slightly camp value of it all -- looks like fun, and I'm hoping it navigates the tricky line between serious and playful. Thor is directed by Kenneth Branagh from »
