New for 2017: Reality Casting Emmy Recognizes ‘Different Process’

Emmys for casting have been around for years in the scripted categories, but the work of casting executives on reality series hasn’t been recognized – until this year’s addition of the outstanding casting in a reality series category.

Reality casting is a completely different process, says Arthur Smith, CEO of A. Smith & Co. Prods. and executive producer of “American Ninja Warrior.”

“Actors can be chameleons and you have to find the right actor for the right part,” he says. “We have to find people who are the real version of what we want and are hoping to get.”

Pilgrim Media Group president and CEO Craig Piligian (“Ghost Hunters,” “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s”) says casting for reality differs from scripted in another way, too.

Omarosa Manigault married John Allen Newman at Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C. on Saturday.

President Donald Trump’s staffer tweeted the news with a photo clutching the hand of her new husband, hashtagging #HappilyEverNewman and including flower emojis. On Wednesday, she celebrated a bridal going away party with her White House co-workers, including Kellyanne Conway.

Manigault got engaged to the Jacksonville pastor at the end of July, and she shopped for her dress with Say Yes to the Dress host Randy Fenoli at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City.

NAACP Image Awards Hail ‘Next Generation’ of Talent, Inclusive Stories

The 48th annual NAACP Image Awards honored the past year in entertainment, specifically putting a spotlight on projects with representation of minorities. Projects that took home awards included “Hidden Figures,” “This Is Us,” “Black-ish” and “Queen Sugar.”

Upon accepting his 20th NAACP Image award, for “Fences,” Denzel Washington spoke at length, motivating the newer artists who were listening.

“I am particularly happy and proud about the young filmmakers, actors, singers, writers, producers that are coming up behind my generation,” he said, citing “Moonlight” director Barry Jenkins. “It’s not easy. If it was easy, there’d be no Kerry Washington, Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis, Mykelti Williamson, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, and there’d be no Denzel Washington.”

Former Apprentice contestant Omarosa Manigault has landed a job in Donald Trump‘s White House.

Manigault’s official title will be assistant to the president and director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison, the president-elect’s transition team announced in a statement Wednesday afternoon. The role is expected to focus on public engagement, CNN reported.

Manigault first found fame in 2004 as a contestant on Trump’s reality TV show The Apprentice, before he ultimately fired her. The two remained on good terms, and Manigault served as a prominent Trump surrogate and his director of African-American outreach during his presidential campaign. »
