She originally studied astrophysics at Edinburgh University but, whilst there, became involved with the Edinburgh Footlights drama group, for whom she played Sally Bowles in 'Cabaret'. Having been bitten by the acting bug she then went on to study at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
