Movie Review - Stolen (2012)

9 October 2012 3:01 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Stolen, 2012.

Directed by Simon West.

Starring Nicolas Cage, Josh Lucas, Malin Akerman, Danny Huston, Sami Gayle, Edrick Browne, Mark Valley and M.C. Gainey.

Synopsis:

A former thief frantically searches for his missing daughter, who has been kidnapped and locked in the trunk of a taxi.

Last year Nicolas Cage had four films released, three of which made it to my top 10 worst of the year (Trespass, Season of the Witch, and Drive Angry) and his most recent output, Stolen, is sure to find a place on the list come December of this year. It is dreadful and marks his sixth appallingly bad film in a row.

Stolen is nothing more than a made-for-tv film with an Academy Award-winner headlining, giving it just enough pedigree to warrant it a cinematic release. However, the film was only released for 14 days at 141 cinemas in the Us; to put that in perspective, Cage’s »

Jules Verne’s The Mysterious Island (2012)

19 June 2012 8:28 PM, PDT | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Directed by Mark Sheppard

Written by Cameron Larson, (loosely) based on the book by Jules Verne

Featuring Gina Holden, Lochlyn Munro, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Susie Abromeit, Mark Sheppard, J. D. Evermore, Edrick Browne, Caleb Michaelson and William Morgan Sheppard

One might suspect the Syfy premiere of Jules Verne’s The Mysterious Island last February was another “mockbuster” from The Asylum, timed to coincide with the theatrical release of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. But blame this one on the Syfy channel, as The Asylum wasn’t involved with this 2010 production. And that’s unfortunate, as this movie lacks any sense of fun or campy humor.

Most genre fans know how the film starts out. During The Civil War, as a group of Union prisoners, along with a reporter and a Confederate deserter, escape from their captors in a hot air balloon. A Confederate soldier, attempting to stop them, is pulled »
