Interview: Don Mancini Talks Cult Of Chucky and the Enduring Controversy of Seed Of Chucky

  • DailyDead
It’s been amazing to watch Don Mancini shepherd the entire Child’s Play franchise for nearly 30 years now, successfully navigating these films through various eras in modern horror, all while keeping the spirit of everyone’s favorite possessed killer doll Chucky very much alive and kicking.

This week, Cult of Chucky made its debut on various formats and platforms—Blu-ray, DVD, VOD, and the rated version is also now available on Netflix—which meant it was the perfect time to post our interview with Mancini here on Daily Dead. Here’s the catch though: what follows ended up being a very spoiler-filled interview at times, just because there’s so much that I’ve long enjoyed about this franchise, and wanted to dig into a lot of different topics with Chucky’s creator while I had the opportunity.

So, if you haven’t had the chance to see Cult of Chucky just yet,

‘Mansfield 66/67’ Trailer Examines Jayne Mansfield’s Interest in Satanic Rituals and Her Untimely Death

‘Mansfield 66/67’ Trailer Examines Jayne Mansfield’s Interest in Satanic Rituals and Her Untimely Death
Jayne Mansfield was an American actress, singer and entertainer who was one of Hollywood’s biggest sex symbols of the ‘50s and ‘60s. She was known for her hunger for publicity, her questionable affair with Anton Lavey, head of the Church of Satan, and her fatal car crash in 1967.

Now 50 years after her legendary accident, filmmakers P. David Ebersole and Todd Hughes have created “Mansfield 66/67,” a documentary about the last two years of Mansfield’s life and the speculation that her untimely death was caused by her alleged affair with Lavey and a curse that was placed on her.

The film is based on rumor and hearsay and asks the questions: “Was her life spinning out of control in the last two years of her life, or…did the devil make her do it?”

‘Diary of a Teenage Girl’: Bel Powley on Body Image, Nude Scenes and Drag Queens
After “The Diary of A Teenage Girl” premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January, its star Bel Powley took the stage at the Eccles Theatre to answer questions. But when she spoke, the audience let out a collective gasp — at her British accent. Powley, 23, pulls off one of the year’s best transformations as 15-year-old Minnie, who in 1976 enters into a secret affair with the boyfriend (Alexander Skarsgard) of her mom (Kristin Wiig) in San Francisco.

“Diary,” which was directed by Marielle Heller based on Phoebe Gloeckner’s novel, has earned stellar reviews as a rare drama that celebrates its young heroine’s sexual awakening. Powley spoke to Variety about preparing for the role in the Sony Pictures Classics release, which opens today.

I’m trying to think of the last time I saw a movie about a young woman who liked sex where she wasn’t portrayed as the bad girl.

Alexander Skarsgard Dresses In Drag at 'Diary of a Teenage Girl' Premiere ... But Why?!

  • TooFab
Alexander Skarsgard make quite an entrance at the San Francisco premiere of "Diary of a Teenage Girl" on Monday. The actor dressed in drag for his big night, posing for pictures on the red carpet in glitzy gold gown, 70's-style blonde wig and a flawless face of makeup. It is unclear why Alexander chose to change up his look for the premiere, but it may be an homage to his costar, Peaches Christ, a drag performer who plays a transvestite in the film and often performs at the Castro Theater where the event was held. In the movie, the "True Blood" alum plays Monroe, a 35-year-old man who is dating Chloe (Kristen Wiig) and later begins an affair with her 15-year-old daughter Minnie (Bel Powley). Skarsgard recently revealed that he was drawn to the role because it was "an interesting challenge -- to make a character that could have just

True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard unrecognisable in drag at The Diary of a Teenage Girl premiere

True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard unrecognisable in drag at The Diary of a Teenage Girl premiere
Alexander Skarsgard, is that really you under there?

The True Blood star was unrecognisable as he arrived in full drag to the premiere of his new movie The Diary of a Teenage Girl in San Francisco last night (August 4).

The actor was giving it Farrah Fawcett glamour in a blonde feathered wig, which he teamed with a floor-length gold gown.

It's believed Skarsgard - who is reportedly dating Alexa Chung - was paying tribute to co-star and drag performer Joshua Grannell, who plays a transvestite in Marielle Heller's controversial movie.

The film adapts Phoebe Gloeckner's graphic novel The Diary of a Teenage Girl: An Account in Words and Pictures, and centres around a young artist (Bel Powley) living in San Francisco in the '70s, who is having an affair with her mother's boyfriend.

Skarsgard plays Monroe, the 35-year-old boyfriend having the affair unbeknown to his girlfriend

Alexander Skarsgård Dresses in Drag and Walks the Red Carpet at the Diary of a Teenage Girl Premiere—See Pics!
Alexander Skarsgård made his most memorable red carpet appearance to date last night when he dressed in drag and posed for photographers at the Diary of a Teenage Girl premiere in San Francisco. Skarsgård gave serious Farrah Fawcett vibes with his feathered wig, and he wore a floor-length gold dress that was cinched at the waist. He posed with Bel Bowley and director Marielle Heller. It's unclear why Skarsgård decided to dress in drag, but it's suspected his look may have been a nod to his co-star Joshua Grannell, a drag performer named Peaches Christ who plays a transvestite in the film. Skarsgård, who stands tall at 6-foot-4, previously played a transvestite in the 2006 Swedish film Kill Your...

Alexander Skarsgård Is Gorgeous in Drag at 'Diary of a Teenage Girl' Premiere

Alexander Skarsgård is one of Hollywood's hottest men -- and it seems he's one of the hottest women, too.

The actor dressed in drag for the premiere of his new movie, "Diary of a Teenage Girl," last night in San Francisco. He donned a feathered blond wig and strutted down the red carpet in a glittery gold dress and silver sandals. The look was very '70s, which is when the movie is set.

It's unclear why Skarsgård dressed as a woman for the premiere, as he doesn't play a drag queen in the movie. Perhaps it was a nod to co-star Joshua Grannell, a drag performer who goes by the name Peaches Chris, who does. Here's a better look. The coming-of-age movie centers on Minnie (Bel Powley), a San Francisco teen who embarks on a journey of sexual evolution after losing her virginity to her mother's boyfriend (Skarsgard). Kristen Wiig stars as Minnie's mom.

Peaches Christ: A True Icon of Fright

Edgy, provocative, and often hilarious, the drag scene is one of the most fascinating forms of entertainment. We now live in a world of demanded political correctness, and while the drag scene has greatly evolved over the last few years, the taboo sensationalism of it all still rings true. Thanks to the success of Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, drag queens and drag culture have started to shift into the mainstream as something more than just Tootsie or The Rocky Horror Picture Show. However, you don’t need to be on a reality show competition to make a name for yourself in the drag community, and horror fans are missing out on the scream queen we didn’t know we needed.

Peaches Christ (the stage name for Joshua Grannell) is a drag performer, emcee, filmmaker, and actor. Peaches currently resides in San Francisco where her Backlash Production Company and

Daniel Adams Sets Actioner ‘Panama’ as His First Post-Prison Project (Exclusive)

Daniel Adams Sets Actioner ‘Panama’ as His First Post-Prison Project (Exclusive)
Director Daniel Adams is seeking redemption and resumption of his Hollywood career — a year after being released from Massachusetts state prison for inflating expenses to obtain production tax credits.

“Directing is what I know how to do,” he told Variety. “I had a lot of time to think about that in jail.”

He’s attached to direct “Panama,” an action-thriller he co-wrote with William Barber about an ex-Marine hired in 1989 by a defense contractor to travel to Panama to complete an arms deal. In the process he becomes involved with the Nicaraguan Contras and the U.S. invasion of Panama, and learns an important lesson about the true nature of political power.

Barber is the producer and financer with Harris Tulchin as executive producer of the project. According to Adams, plans are for a budget in the $10 million-plus range with shooting tentatively set for early summer 2015 in Miami.

“I’m definitely not producing this time,

First Look: Horror Comedy 'All About Evil'

We all know that dark horror comedies can be brilliantly done. Take the 2 sequels of Evil Dead, Dead-Alive and Shaun of the Dead just to name a few. But for every gem you also get a dud and too often that's what happens when you try to merge the fine line of laughter and blood curdling horror. All Things Evil attempts just that and so far so good!...

Judging from the first batch of stills we just got from the upcoming film 'All About Evil' we think this film is on the right track.

All About Evil is a wicked black comedy set in the world of a horror movie about a mousy librarian (Natasha Lyonne) who inherits her father's beloved but failing old movie house. In order to save the family business, she discovers her inner serial killer - and a legion of rabid gore fans -

Gay of the Dead 30: All About Evil’s writer/director Joshua Grannell Part 1
I first became aware of Joshua Grannell and his alter ego, Peaches Christ, on a trip to San Francisco in 2000, maybe 2001? I was dating a guy who had moved down from Sf to Los Angeles, and on one of our many trips up north we took in a screening of Showgirls at the Midnight Mass summer film series. Peaches was the host of the evening, and the show opened with a re-enactment of both the “Goddess” number and the “Nomi F-s Zack in the pool” scene with drag queens (and one drag king playing “Zack.”) I was hooked.

Over the years I would try and catch Midnight Mass screenings whenever I was up in Sf. I found out that Peaches was actually Grannell who was actually a manager at the Bridge, the theater in which the madness took place. Grannell programmed the series, and created unique pre-shows with his drag
