Emily VanCamp’s ‘Girl in the Book’ Bought by Myriad for U.S.
Myriad Pictures has acquired all U.S. rights to the drama “The Girl in the Book,” starring Emily VanCamp and Michael Nyqvist.

The movie, written and directed by Marya Cohn, will be launched by Myriad with Freestyle Releasing and Freestyle Digital Media. The 10-city U.S. theatrical and VOD launch is slated for December. The film premiered at this year’s Los Angeles Film Festival.

Myriad is also handling international sales at the American Film Market. Myriad and Freestyle teamed this year on the U.S. releases of “Three Night Stand” and “After the Ball.”

Myriad readies 'The Girl In The Book' for Tiff

Kirk D’Amico and his team will introduce international buyers in Toronto to the thriller starring Emily VanCamp and Michael Nyqvist.

The Girl In The Book premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival over the summer and takes place in the cutthroat publishing world where a junior book editor must face personal demons and find the courage to write her own novel.

ICM Partners represents Us rights.

Marya Cohn wrote and directed the drama. Varient Pictures produced in association with Busted Buggy Entertainment, with Gina Resnick and Kyle Heller serving as producers. Daniel Cunningham serves as executive producer.

Iraqi War Rescue Dog ‘Hero,’ Fallen Soldier Set for Movie (Exclusive)

Varient Pictures and State Street Pictures are teaming up to develop an untitled movie about fallen solider Justin Rollins and the dog he rescued from the rubble of the Iraqi War.

Bob Teitel and George Tillman, Jr. will produce for State Street with Gina Resnick and Kyle Heller producing for Varient. Mike Flavin and Brittney Murray — Rollins’ girlfriend — will also produce.

Mark Freiburger (“Dog Days of Summer,” “Jimmy”) will direct from a screenplay by Brian Hurwitz. Rollins died in 2007 in Iraq from injuries from a roadside bomb after he had fallen in love with Murray, his hometown sweetheart. Murray and Rollins’ parents made it their personal mission to save the life of Hero, the rescued dog.

Hero and her story have been featured on “Good Morning America,” “World News with Diane Sawyer,” “20/20″ and Animal Planet’s “Saved.”

State Street produced “Barbershop,” “Notorious,” “Faster” and “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete.

Brightest Star heads to Gravitas

Gravitas Ventures has acquired all North American rights to Maggie Kiley’s Brightest Star, previously known as Light Years.

Chris Lowell, Rose McIver and Jessica Szohr star in the story of a young college graduate who sets out to win back the girl of his dreams. The cast includes Clark Gregg and Allison Janney.

The film will open in theatres and on VOD nationwide in late January 2014 following the recent world premiere at the 2013 Austin Film Festival.

Paul Finkel and Jason Potash financed and produced Brightest Star through Storyboard Entertainment alongside Kyle Heller and Gina Resnick, edited by Franklin Peterson and Cindy Thoennessen,

Gravitas Ventures negotiated the deal with Miller and Noor Ahmed of Reder & Feig on behalf of the filmmakers.

VanCamp, Nyqvist Join "Girl in the Book

Emily VanCamp ("Revenge") and Michael Nyqvist ("Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol") are set to star in Marya Cohn's indie directorial debut "The Girl in the Book" at Varient Pictures and Busted Buggy Entertainment.

The story centers on the daughter of a powerful New York City literary agent (VanCamp) who is forced to confront painful events in her past when asked to work on the re-release of the best-selling novel of her father's star client (Nyqvist).

Forced to face difficult memories, she ultimately overcomes her demons and rediscovers her creative voice.

Gina Resnick and Kyle Heller will produce. Shooting begins mid-June in New York City.

'War Birds' film flying at Tmu Pictures
Tmu Pictures is moving forward with the action-adventure film "War Birds."

Michael Chait wrote the original story and will produce and direct the screenplay written by Josh Staman and Bryan Binder. J. Todd Harris ("Bottle Shock") and screenwriter Richard Jefferies ("Tron Legacy"), who will polish the script, are producing.

Sean Miller and Kyle Heller of Chait's Michigan-based Tmu Pictures also are producing. Marc Marcum will serve as co-producer.

"Birds" follows an Air Force veteran-turned-reckless airshow re-enactment pilot as he gets pulled into the underground culture of illegal, real-life aerial combat. Shooting is scheduled for the summer in Michigan using all real airplanes and aerial sequences, including authentic P-51 Mustangs, P-38 Lightnings, F4U Corsairs and a B-17 Flying Fortress as well as modern military helicopters and jets.

"Titanic" cinematographer Russell Carpenter will serve as a visual consultant.
