Chandigarh, April 5: Gul Panag may be new to politics but the former Miss India has already proved she is no pushover in the election for Chandigarh's lone Lok Sabha seat.

When Gul -- as she is widely known -- entered politics as late as last month as the Aam Aadmi Party (Aap) candidate, she had to hit the ground running.

It was very much needed. Both her main opponents, from the Bjp and the Congress, are older to her and more experienced, and they have the backing of the country's two biggest political partties.

Mumbai, March 27: Actress Divya Dutta, recently seen as a doctor in "Ragini Mms 2", says she was offered a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha polls but she isn't ready to take the plunge.

"I was also offered a seat, but I don't think I am ready for politics right now. I don't want to enter politics but my support is with all those who have and I hope they shine in the field," the 36-year-old said here Wednesday at the "Ragini Mms 2" press meet.

Gul Panag speaks out on her electoral war with Kirron Kher

Blame it on micro-blogging. But there is a Twitter war on between two Bollywood actresses of different generations, both sharing the common trait of dimpled cheeks.

Kirron Kher who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections as a Bjp candidate from Chandigarh and Gul Panag who is contesting on an Aam Aadmi ticket from the same city landed in Chandigarh at around the same time only to get embroiled in a war of words.

Apparently Gul tweeted, "Doubt if I'll have the energy to run around like this and serve my people when I'm 60. I guess that's why there's normally a retirement age."

To this Kirron Kher retorted with sufficient sarcasm saying, "For me life starts at 60 and I have the blessings of my 101-year-old father to fight this contest and emerge victorious."

Mumbai, March 24: Actress Gul Panag, who is said to have started a 'Twitter war' with Kirron Kher, her competition in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, says she did not intend to poke fun at the veteran artist as she harbours love and respect for her.

Chandigarh, March 22: They may have been para-dropped into Chandigarh with an "outsider" tag but two celebrity women from Bollywood are now claiming their "birthright" to contest the lone Lok Sabha seat here.

Bjp candidate Kirron Kher and the Aam Aadmi Party (Aap) nominee Gul Panag, who claimed the Miss India title in 1999, are out to woo Chandigarh's nearly 600,000 electorate, 60 percent of which is in the 18-40 age-group. The voting is on April 10.

Chandigarh, March 21: Bollywood actresses Kirron Kher (Bjp) and Gul Panag (Aap) Friday filed their nomination papers to contest the April 10 election for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat.

Kirron, 58, was accompanied by her husband, actor Anupam Kher, and top Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp) leaders from the Chandigarh unit. This was in sharp contrast to the black flags shown to her to protest her candidature when she arrived in Chandigarh from Mumbai Tuesday.

Gul, 35, who was Miss India in 1999, was accompanied by her parents, family members and Aam Aadmi Party supporters as she filed her nomination papers.

Mumbai, March 18: Veteran actor Anupam Kher Tuesday urged his friends and fans to wish all the best to his wife and actress Kirron Kher for her new journey as the Chandigarh candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp) for the Lok Sabha.

Kolkata, March 17: Describing close friend and actress Gul Panag as "sensible" and "smart", Bollywood actor Purab Kohli Monday said he would be happy to support the Aam Aadmi Party (Aap) candidate from Chandigarh for the Lok Sabha polls.

One Billion Rising campaign kicks off; Aamir, Gul Panag lend support

New Delhi, Feb 6: The One Billion Rising campaign (Obr), which will see over a billion people rising to protest against violence against women, started here Thursday with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and former Miss India Gul Panag lending their support to the campaign.

In the capital, the Obr campaign will focus on the issue of justice for all survivors of gender violence and the apparent impunity with which the perpetrators get away all over the world.

New Delhi, Jan 13: An interest in travelling, collecting cars and a passion for adventure may be listed as activities perceived as falling in men's domain, but actress Gul Panag does not agree with these stereotypes and has been disproving them in her own life.

Gul, who has been riding bikes from a very early age, said: "No one ever called me a tomboy. Then or now."

"I don't think riding bikes makes a girl a tomboy. Who decides what girls should do or not do? I'm glad the gender stereotypes are being challenged," Gul, who has been seen in films like "Dhoop" and "Dor", told Ians in an email interaction.

Gul Panag undertakes 'incredible' expedition

New Delhi, Jan 11: Gul Panag's love for adventure and passion for travelling makes her plan each of her trips differently. The former beauty queen has recently returned from a challenging expedition, and she says it was "incredible".

She was accompanied on the trip by her husband Rishi Attari and some other friends.

"We recently undertook a road trip to Lahaul valley (Himachal Pradesh). We camped for five nights in the middle of nowhere. There were six of us in three vehicles. It was incredible," Gul told Ians in an email interaction.
