Resurrection: Should ABC Have Cancelled the Series?

9 November 2014 9:56 PM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Late in the 2013-14 season, NBC and ABC launched three new Sunday night dramas -- all with single word titles. NBC cancelled Crisis and Believe while ABC renewed Resurrection for a second season. In retrospect, was that a good decision for the alphabet network? Should Resurrection have been cancelled as well?

On Resurrection, a small town in Missouri is turned upside down when long-dead loved ones return after 30 years. The cast includes Omar Epps, Frances Fisher, Matt Craven, Devin Kelley, Mark Hildreth, Samaire Armstrong, Sam Hazeldine, Landon Gimenez, and Kurtwood Smith.

Debuting on March 9th, Resurrection had a great launch with a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 13.9 million total viewers. (Those numbers are about the same as this season's How to Get Away with Murder's debut.)

Unfortunately, Resurrection's ratings dropped about 19% in week two and they kept »

Resurrection: Season Two Ratings

20 October 2014 1:34 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Last spring, this ABC show fell in the ratings over the course of its first season. The network renewed Resurrection anyway. Was that a mistake? Will the ratings keep falling so that it's cancelled? Or, will they rise so that it'll be renewed for a third season? Stay tuned.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available -- usually the next day, around 11:30am Est/8:30am Pst. Refresh to see the latest. »

Movie Review – ’71 (2014)

12 October 2014 2:49 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

’71, 2014.

Directed by Yann Demange.

Starring Jack O’Connell, Sam Reid, Paul Anderson, Sean Harris, Charlie Murphy, Sam Hazeldine, Killian ScottBarry Keoghan and Corey McKinley.

Synopsis:

A young and disoriented British soldier is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the deadly streets of Belfast in 1971.

’71 opens with two young soldiers knocking the hell out of each other in an army boxing match. No head protection, no padding. These are tough young men and “good lads” in their drill sergeant’s own words, but this is also a very different time when we first see their bloodied faces, a confusing time for all involved in the story and the real events in which it takes place. It is this confusion, the unknowing, and the futility of it all which gives ‘71 it’s edge of other stripped down thrillers, for the goal is simple from the start and remains »

Synopsis:

A young and disoriented British soldier is accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the deadly streets of Belfast in 1971.

Earlier this year, Gareth EdwardsGodzilla was criticised for many reasons, one of which was that its lead character was “Captain Coincidence”. No matter where he was, the monsters were always there. The same can be said for ’71, a brilliant thriller from debut filmmaker Yann Demange, who turns quite a contrived and forced situation-style plot into a tense vice-like grip that won’t let go easily.

Set during the Catholic and Protestant street wars in Belfast in 1971, Jack O’Connell plays soldier Gary Hook, a simple Yorkshire lad who is separated from his team when they are attacked by angry villagers. Lost and confused, »

Resurrection: The Complete First Season DVD Review

Resurrection Season One DVD Review

Resurrection seems like the epitome of a series that didn’t expect to last past the first four episodes. When I wrote my original review of the show, and gave it a high rating, I said the show’s great weakness to that point was that it didn’t seem to want to commit to how weird it was going to be. It creates an opening within the first few episodes that leave viewers unable to be confident that it is about to lean toward the very weird, or toward an almost straight, “normal” drama that just happens to involve very abnormal events.

That isn’t even a problem in one sense, because not knowing where things are going isn’t a bad theory. Where it becomes tricky is insofar as viewers want to know just how goofy the twists and turns are apt to become. »

Resurrection: ABC TV Show Gets Second Season

9 May 2014 12:34 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

This show doesn't need reviving. ABC has renewed their new Resurrection TV series for a second season.

On Resurrection, a small town in Missouri is turned upside down when deceased loved ones start to return. The cast includes Omar Epps, Kurtwood Smith, Frances Fisher, Devin Kelley, Matt Craven, Samaire Armstrong, Mark Hildreth, Sam Hazeldine, and Landon Gimenez.

Following a lot of promotion, this drama debuted to a very strong 3.8 rating with 13.9 million viewers. The ratings have fallen quite a bit in the last few weeks but it's still generating positive numbers for ABC. The network has had a tough time filling their Sunday night schedule and this is one of only two new ABC dramas that have had any success in the ratings.

Film Review: ‘The Machine’

23 April 2014 10:22 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

British sci-fier “The Machine” lands somewhere between “Blade Runner” and “Her” as a portrait of near-future humanity developing, and possibly being displaced by, beings of artificial intelligence. Closer to “Her” in its musing on human/machine connectivity, while also incorporating the dystopian and action-thriller aspects of “Blade Runner” and its ilk, albeit on a much smaller scale, the pic will divide fantasy fans, some of whom will give it props for breaking somewhat from genre formula, while others will be disappointed by the largely budgetary limits of its imagination. Its theatrical opening April 25 on one Los Angeles screen (following its Stateside VOD launch), amid a gradual international rollout, will serve best in raising awareness for home-format sales.

Opening text informs that a new Cold War between China and the West has resulted in “the deepest recession in history.” While the proles presumably starve (we never see much of the outside »

Resurrection: Cancel or Keep ABC's Newest Show?

ABC certainly needs some successful new shows and hasn't had much luck this season. Shows like Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and Mind Games have already been cancelled while Betrayal surely will be. How about Resurrection? Will it be dropped or renewed for season two?

Robots fascinate us, just think of a movie or book that looks at the nature of robotics and you’ll be able to come up with at least one.  The Machine is a film that appears to focus on robots, and one of the main characters is in fact just that.  Underneath this though is an interesting look at Artificial Intelligence and the question of when does a machine become classed as a living being?

With the UK and China stuck in a cold war where the race for technological supremacy is the key to gaining advantage two doctors are given the task to build an artificial intelligence capable of being self-aware.  Vincent (Stephens) and Ava (Lotz) attempt to create this for the good of humanity, »
