TV on Tap: "Smash" Pulls Back the Musical Numbers, Stephen Colbert for South Carolina and "Leverage" Hopes for the Best but Plans to Say Aideu

There better not be any snakes at this Video Game Awards show.

News

New Smash show runner Josh Safran tells EW that viewers can expect fewer random musical numbers, like the bowling alley performance and the Bollywood dream sequence, though there still could be dream sequences, just ones that aren't so glaringly out of place.

Silvio Horta and Salma Hayek are teaming up again, six years after the two worked to bring Ugly Betty to ABC. According to Deadline, the two are working on Bastards, a drama about a "colorful" (and I'm guessing wealthy) Cuban-American family who learns that there's a bastard relative out there, the first revelation of many secrets within the family.

The fifth season of Leverage — currently TNT's longest-running show airing new episodes — will air its finale on Christmas Day, and with the prospect of a sixth season still uncertain, series producer Dean Devlin wrote an open

The La Complex: Cancelled But Season Three Still Possible

Bell Media has reportedly cancelled The La Complex after two seasons on the air. The low-rated drama may see a third season on The CW however.

The La Complex revolves around a diverse group of performers who are trying to make it in Hollywood while living in the same apartment complex. The ensemble cast includes Andra Fuller, Benjamin Charles Watson, Cassie Steele, Chelan Simmons, Ennis Esmer, Jewel Staite, Joe Dinicol, and Jonathan Patrick Moore.

Six episodes were ordered for the first season and then, before they had aired here in the States, Bell ordered a second season of 13 episodes. According to THR, the ratings for season two were down in Canada so the broadcaster has opted not to order any more.

"Unfortunately the performance of the show was not strong enough for Much to be able to order another season,"

After a finale that included blood, fire, pregnancy and heartbreak, The L.A. Complex is back.

When we last saw the residents of The Lux, Tariq (Benjamin Charles Watson) had been nearly beaten to death by his in-the-closet rap superstar boyfriend Kaldrick King (Andra Fuller), Abby (Cassie Steele) and Nick (Joe Dinicol) were officially a couple, Raquel (Jewel Staite) learned she was pregnant, Alicia (Chelan Simmons) booked the gig of a lifetime and Connor (Jonathan Patrick Moore) had purposely set his mansion on fire. When the series returns on Tuesday (9/8c, The CW), expect familiar faces to leave, newcomers to move in and immediate resolution to the freshman season's cliff-hangers.

The La Complex: Season Two Coming to CW

If you're part of the small but devoted audience that's been watching The La Complex on The CW, there's some good news for you. It appears that there are more episodes on the way.

If you haven't seen it, The La Complex revolves around a diverse group of performers who are trying to make it in Hollywood while living in the same apartment complex. The ensemble cast includes Andra Fuller, Benjamin Charles Watson, Cassie Steele, Chelan Simmons, Ennis Esmer, Jewel Staite, Joe Dinicol, and Jonathan Patrick Moore.

The TV series is produced by Bell Media's MuchMusic in Canada and The CW licensed the six episodes of season one to air here in the states. They started airing in January in Canada and began running here in the states late last month.

Though The CW's ratings have ended up being quite poor,

The La Complex: Cancelled or Renewed by The CW?

The CW recently cancelled shows like Ringer and The Secret Circle but there hasn't been any word about The CW's La Complex. Has it been cancelled as well or will it be back for season two?

The La Complex revolves around a group of young singers, dancers, and actors who are trying to make it in Hollywood. The ensemble cast includes Jonathan Patrick Moore, Jewel Staite, Joe Dinicol, Cassie Steele, Chelan Simmons, Andra Fuller, Benjamin Charles Watson, and Ennis Esmer.

The series had a truly terrible premiere on The CW on April 24th. It registered a mere 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 630,000 total viewers. The ratings have dropped each week since then. The fourth and most recent episode drew a 0.2 rating with 530,000 viewers.

La Complex is produced in Canada by Bell Media for their MuchMusic,

The La Complex: Horrible Premiere Ratings

The CW has pretty much struck out this season. Essentially all of their new dramas could be cancelled next month. So, how did their mid-season entry, The La Complex, do last night?

This new TV series revolves around a group of aspiring performers who are pursuing stardom in Los Angeles. It stars a group of actors who, in real life, have already logged time on television -- Jonathan Patrick Moore, Jewel Staite, Joe Dinicol, Cassie Steele, Chelan Simmons, Andra Fuller, and Benjamin Charles Watson.

Premiering in Ringer's former timeslot, The La Complex drew a pitiful 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 646,000 viewers. That's horrible. Compared to last week's disappointing finale Ringer, The CW was down by 40% in the demo and and 46% in total viewers. Yikes.

The numbers may have been slightly affected by the fact that The

The L.A. Complex 1.01 Review - Broke, But Still Dreaming

The L.A. Complex 1.01 Review - Broke, But Still Dreaming

Before I begin, I would like to dedicate this review of tonight's premiere episode of The L.A. Complex in memory of The CW's defunct Melrose Place reboot, because I would feel all sorts of wrong if I didn't since the show reminds me (and other viewers) of the 2009 cancelled soap. Okay, now that I've gotten that off my chest, let's begin!

Hailing from Canada and the producers of Degrassi, The L.A. Complex is everything that Melrose Place (2009) could have been and more. You have six P.Y.T.'s trying to make it in the horror show that is Hollywood (which did not get a Disney-esque view tonight) all while handling their personal struggles as well. Sounds familiar? It most certainly does, which fellow Tvo writer and L.A. Complex fan Clarissa wrote about in her own review of the new drama.

‘L.A. Complex’ Series Premiere: Abortions, Strippers & More ‘Wtf’ Moments

Are you already addicted to 'The L.A. Complex'? Trust me, the insanity has only just begun. Every show on TV professes to feature countless "Wtf" moments, but few are able to squeeze so many into a single hour as effortlessly as The L.A. Complex, which premiered April 24 on The CW. Real talk: When the main character gets an abortion, vomits on a piano and becomes a stripper all in the pilot episode, you're in for an awesome ride. The series premiere introduced viewers to the residents of the Deluxe Suites Motel, a Melrose Place-style complex whose inhabitants are as hot as the scandals they cook up. There's Abby (Cassie Steele), a newbie actress who recently moved from Toronto; Connor (Jonathan Patrick Moore), the star of a new medical drama; Nick (Joe Dinicol), a "comedian" who's as clueless about women as he is about comedy; Alicia (Chelan Simmons

'The L.A. Complex': Cassie Steele on 'Degrassi' comparisons and bad auditions

Did you know that originally, "The L.A. Complex" was designed as a spinoff for Cassie Steele's "Degrassi: The Next Generation" character Manny Santos? The actress sat down with Zap2it to talk about her new show, which follows young actress Abby (not Manny) and her fellow Hollywood wannabes living in the same Los Angeles apartment building.

Steele tells Zap2it that the new show ended up being a little racier and a little more mature than her previous gig, where she spent a decade playing the same character. As Abby, she gets to be a little more vulnerable and even a little klutzier as a character.

"Manny and Abby are very different people. I think Manny is very confident and easygoing and loves her friends," she says. "Abby is just so frazzled everywhere, headstrong. She's so much more of a rollercoaster."

In the premiere, Abby bombs an audition that

'The L.A. Complex': Jewel Staite makes the move back TV stateside

Call it "Melrose Place" meets "Fame" ... meets Canada.

Young showbiz hopefuls from up north make their way to Los Angeles to seek stardom, while occupying neighboring apartments, as The CW gives the seriocomic Canadian series "The L.A. Complex" its American premiere Tuesday, April 24. The initial six stories already have aired in the show's native country, where a 13-episode second season has been ordered.

Some of the ensemble cast will be familiar to U.S. viewers, including Cassie Steele, who worked with the same producers on the youth-oriented "Degrassi" franchise. She now plays Abby, who goes on acting auditions while resisting her boyfriend's pleas to return home. Jewel Staite ("Firefly," "Stargate Atlantis") also stars as Raquel, who's been there and back -- and wants to get there again, to the point of boldly suggesting that a producer change a character's ethnicity to accommodate her.

Chelan Simmons ("Kyle Xy") calls her own

TV Review: ‘The L.A. Complex’ Gets Lost on Familiar Journey

Chicago – The CW continues to waste the goodwill generated by pop culture hits like “Gossip Girl,” “The Vampire Diaries,” and “Supernatural” with yet another misfire in the worst year in the fledgling network’s history. “The L.A. Complex” makes the trip tonight via Canada and this generic, cliched snooze isn’t bad enough to be entertaining in a B-movie kind of way. It’s just the worst thing TV can be — boring.

TV Rating: 2.0/5.0

Like CBS’s “Flashpoint” and ABC’s “Rookie Blue,” “The L.A. Complex” is another Canadian import, a show that played to reasonable audiences (by Canadian standards) North of the border and now fills one of many holes in the schedule of The CW. To say that we’ve seen this overly familiar soap opera before would be an understatement. It’s yet another saga of beautiful young men and women trying to get their break in the city of angels.

Degrassi's Cassie Steele Previews Her Move to The CW's L.A. Complex
Breaking into Hollywood is no easy task. But that’s just what the aspiring actors, dancers, music producers, and comics of The CW’s Canadian import, The L.A. Complex, (premiering Tuesday at 9/8c) will try to do. Think of it as Fame-meets-Melrose Place with a dash of Degrassi: The Next Generation. Below, star Cassie Steele explains the Complex connections to her previous gig; what makes her wannabe actress, Abby, different; and why mouths will be gaping at the adventures of these Hollywood newbies.
