'Gambit' Director Leaves for DC's 'Justice League Dark'

16 hours ago | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

Good news for Warner Bros., bad news for Fox?  Director Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, The Bourne Identity) has abandoned Fox's Gambit, still starring Channing Tatum, for the DC project Justice League Dark, Variety reported yesterday. Perhaps anticipating Marvel's Dr. Strange, the film will explore fringe supernatural characters in the DC universe like John Constantine (played by Keanu Reeves in 2005's Constantine), Deadman, Zatanna, Etrigan the Demon, Madame Xanadu and...

Warner Bros.' Dark Universe Gets A New Director

22 hours ago | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

While never officially announced, Guillermo del Toro has in the last few years been hyping up Dark Universe, his vision of DC Comics’ Justice League Dark, a collection of supernatural heroes who tackle the problems the Justice League can’t, made up of the likes of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon. Think of the Bprd from Hellboy, and you would be on the right track. The project has been seemingly stalled recently, with Del Toro sidetracked by other projects, and now Variety are reporting that has left the project, with Go and The Bourne Identity's Doug Liman signing on as his replacement. This puts into question the fate of the Channing Tatum starring X-Men spin-off, Gambit, which Liman was originally set to direct, but has been beset by problems lately. According to the publication, him joining Dark Universe is the result of a mutual split »

Doug Liman to direct Justice League Dark movie, exits Gambit

25 August 2016 12:10 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It looks like Doug Liman has grown tired of waiting for 20th Century Fox to get its oft-delayed Gambit movie off the ground, as it has been revealed that the Edge of Tomorrow director is swapping the X-Men franchise for the DC Extended Universe – and more specifically, the supernatural side of the Dceu.

Variety is reporting that Liman has signed on to direct Justice League Dark for Warner Bros., with the studio reviving the project which spent several years in development under Guillermo del Toro (who remains attached as a producer). The report also states that the line-up will feature John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon, and suggests that the film “will play a major role” in the Dceu.

X-Men Spinoff Gambit Loses Director Doug Liman to DC

24 August 2016 2:03 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last month, producer Simon Kinberg revealed that production on Gambit, the long-awaited X-Men spinoff starring Channing Tatum, would begin in early 2017. The producer said at the time that the script is "great," but earlier this month, he said that they are still trying to find the right tone and voice, claiming it's "really close" to moving forward. Today we have word that the project has hit yet another stumbling block, with director Doug Liman parting ways.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the filmmaker has left the project, news which came in tandem with Doug Liman signing on to direct DC Films' Justice League Dark. Insiders claim that production is still being planned for January 2017, with Channing Tatum still attached to star and Joshua Zetumer (RoboCop, The Infiltrator) writing the script. The start date has been pushed several times due to script issues, with filming originally set to begin in the »

Director Doug Liman drops 'Gambit' to jump into DC's 'Dark Universe'

24 August 2016 12:50 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

It’s starting to feel like there’s something very wrong with the Gambit movie. Is that fair? The thing’s gone through a number of different directors at this point, and it doesn’t feel like it’s any closer to actually happening. I’ve talked to directors who got close and then backed away, and I have yet to be able to pin down exactly what’s going on here. Considering this is a major release for Fox, it’s got Channing Tatum attached, and anything X-Men related is given pretty much any resources they need, it is shocking that it’s this hard to get a filmmaker to say yes to the job. Doug Liman is the latest guy to jump ship, and in his case, he’s got a pretty great plan B, one that I’ve been curious about since Guillermo Del Toro first mentioned it years ago. »

DC's Justice League Dark Movie Gets Edge of Tomorrow Director

24 August 2016 12:42 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Warner Bros. still has a lot of confidence in their DC Comics movies, despite dreadful reviews for both Suicide Squad and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Even with a full slate already announced for the next few years, the studio is working on even more projects for their DC Extended Universe. That being the case, it looks like Warner Bros. is finally moving ahead with a Justice League Dark movie, also known as http://movieweb.com/justice-league-dark-movie-story-production-start-date/Dark Universe, with director Doug Liman at the helm.

Variety broke the news on Wednesday, confirming that the Edge of Tomorrow director would be taking on the movie. According to the report, Scott Rudin, who has long been attached to the project, will be producing Justice League Dark, with Michael Gilio writing the script. Warner Bros. has yet to officially make the announcement, but Variety is confidently stating that this is indeed happening. »

Justice League Dark: Doug Liman to direct

Edge Of Tomorrow director Doug Liman has signed up for Justice League Dark for Warner Bros, reports suggest...

Holy moley. We might finally get that Justice League Dark movie that's been in development within the DC Universe for years...

According to Variety, Edge Of Tomorrow's Doug Liman has signed on to direct the film, which will potentially feature the characters of John Constantine, Swamp Thing (please let Swamp Thing be in it), Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon. The project would be part of the DC Cinematic Universe from Warner Bros and DC Entertainment.

Though Warner Bros currently has no comment, the story confirms that Scott Rudin is producing and Michael Gilio is writing the script. Sources also suggest that this means Liman will not be directing the X-Men universe's Gambit starring Channing Tatum as part of a "mutual split" on the part of the studio and the director. »

Doug Liman Takes Point On Justice League Dark, Reportedly No Longer Attached To Gambit

24 August 2016 11:46 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman has agreed terms to helm Justice League Dark for Warner Bros. – at the expense of Gambit, it seems.

Injecting new life into the languishing superhero project, word of Liman’s appointment comes by way of Variety, revealing that this new interpretation of DC and Warner’s Dark Universe will be penned by Michael Gilio. It’s welcome news for fans of the cult supernatural property, though such a coup only portends trouble for the Channing Tatum-fronted Gambit spinoff, with sources close to Variety claiming that Liman has now departed the troubled X-Men spinoff.

Though 20th Century Fox offered no comment at the time of writing, that’s an amicable split that had been long in the cards, given that Liman has been quietly lining up additional projects beyond the mutant universe over the past few months, during which time Gambit was ordered to »

Breaking News: Director Doug Liman Ditches Gambit Flick For Justice League Dark

24 August 2016 11:37 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

If there's one Fox property that seems to constantly be getting the shaft, it's Gambit. It's gone through a couple directors, a delayed release, and rumors of losing its lead Channing Tatum (which proved to be false). But if you thought that would be the end of its problems, you'd be wrong.

In a report from THR, the outlet states that Gambit has officially lost director Doug Liman, who took on the project October 2015 after Rupert Wyatt dropped out. Without a doubt, the delay in release likely played a big role in this. It's never a good sign when a film's release date disappears, and it's even worse when it doesn't show up in a different spot down the line.

But it's not all, Variety near-simultaneously published that Liman has signed on to direct Dark Universe, a.k.a. Justice League Dark (the outlet also backs up claims from THR »

Jenna Dewan Tatum Jokes That She and Channing Will Force Their Daughter to Watch Step Up

Jenna Dewan Tatum and Channing Tatum have been one of Hollywood's most adorable (and A-list) duos for a while now, but they always make sure to remember where they started. The two famously met on the set of Step Up in 2006 and got engaged during a vacation in Hawaii two years later. They went on to tie the knot in 2009 and welcomed daughter Everly in May 2013. Most recently, Jenna revealed that she and Channing will most definitely let their little girl watch Step Up to see exactly how her mom and dad fell in love. "We keep saying we are going to force feed Step Up to Everly," she joked during an interview with Women's Wear Daily. "Like, 'You have to watch. You have to see where you came from.'" Jenna, who is a professionally trained dancer, also revealed that Everly is already turning into her little mini me, »

Top Ten Box Office Takeaways: Why ‘Ben-Hur’ Is Biggest Flop Among Wimpy Openers

22 August 2016 7:24 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The studios often save the dog days of August for their weakest performers and sure enough, this weekend proved the rule. (In the past,  “The Butler” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Straight Outta Compton” did strong business in August.) Yes, “Suicide Squad” grossed over $20 million, as it became the first non-animated film to have a three-peat at number one since “Dead Pool.” But three weak new releases— “Ben-Hur” (Paramount), “War Dogs” (Warner Bros.) and “Kubo and the Two Strings” (Focus) —opened to less than $15-million.

Making it even more challenging for this trio of weak domestic performers to make their money back: None are scheduled to open in China, which is increasingly the second and sometimes biggest single territory for theatrical grosses. That’s a big deal in a studio world increasingly shifting its focus on a sure thing.

Amazon Pilot Reviews: ‘The Tick,’ Jill Soloway’s ‘I Love Dick’ & ‘Jean-Claude Van Johnson,’ Ranked

19 August 2016 8:19 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Jean-Claude Van Johnson

“’Timecop’ is like ‘Looper’ with Bruce Willis, but a million times better,” is just one of the gems spoken in “Jean-Claude Van Johnson” which is as gloriously ridiculous as its title.

What the Amazon pilot lacks in plot — action star Jean-Claude Van Damme comes out of retirement to act as a private contractor specializing in kicking ass and doing the splits — it makes up for with indiscriminate jabs at everything and anyone, including its star, Hollywood, pretentious foodies and even America’s Undulating Beefcake, Channing Tatum. A surprising appearance by Phylicia Rashad, who gamely plays Jean-Claude’s agent, is a comic revelation. She delivers the most absurd movie pitches with such enthusiasm that we’re ready to sign up for the “P.F. Chang’s” biopic ourselves.

The only real disappointment is the lackluster treatment of Jean-Claude’s love interest Vanessa (Kat Foster), who isn’t given much to work with story-wise. »
