Virgin Media has unveiled its SmartCall application, a service that enables users to use their landline minutes on their mobile. The service, which works by using WiFi in place of a mobile operator, is compatible with any network and will allow customers to make cheaper calls abroad. Virgin Media has today announced a deal giving its mobile customers access to the network of Everything Everywhere, the UK joint venture between Orange and T-Mobile. The cable operator is the UK's largest Mobile Virtual Network Operator, which means that it 'piggybacks' other mobile networks to offer services to customers. Everything Everywhere has now become Virgin Media's main mobile network supplier, enabling Virgin Mobile customers to take advantage of increased coverage. Virgin already uses T-Mobile's network to host calls, texts and mobile data usage, but the addition of Orange's footprint will improve coverage in more areas.
