Early Reactions To Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Sail In From CinemaCon

29 March 2017 9:16 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s no secret that Disney’s CinemaCon presentation stole headlines left, right, and center after the Mouse House previewed its film slate for 2017 and beyond. Among those highlights included new footage from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a title change for Wreck-It Ralph 2 and some housekeeping relating to Marvel’s Black Panther movie – after much speculation, we now know the identity of (almost) every character on board for Ryan Coogler’s standalone pic.

But those who paid a visit to the annual Las Vegas convention were in for another treat from the Mouse House: an early screening of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. It’s the first entry into Disney’s swashbuckling franchise since the so-so On Stranger Tides from six years ago, and all throughout development, co-directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning have teased the ways in which Dead Men Tell No Tales heralds »

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ Plays Well at CinemaCon 2017

Film franchises can be hard to sustain for a fifth installment, but Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” did not disappoint at CinemaCon on Tuesday night. While the crowd at the annual trade show in Las Vegas didn’t go so far as to give the film a standing ovation, the round of applause heard in the room made it clear that most in the audience felt the film met or exceeded their expectations. Directed by Joachim Rønning & Espen Sandberg, the film and hits theaters on May 26.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Featurette Takes Us Behind The Scenes

28 March 2017 11:58 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Are you sick to the gills of Captain Jack Sparrow yet? I sure am. The original Pirates of the Caribbean was great, but with each sequel the franchise has gotten gradually worse, with On Stranger Tides a bloated, incoherent and largely unwatchable critical disaster. Nevertheless, it somehow grossed a billion dollars at the global box office, leaving the franchise as un-killable as one of its skeleton pirates.

And so, here we are, with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales poised to swashbuckle onto screens in May, helmed by Kon-Tiki directing duo Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning. Thing is, that little-seen film was actually pretty great – proving (at minimum) that the pair can handle high seas drama.

Anyways, Disney have now released this “First Look” featurette for the Dead Men Tell No Tales, which takes us onto the gangplanks of the latest movie. Interestingly (perhaps mercifully), it doesn »

Captain Salazar begins his bloodthirsty quest for revenge in a new onslaught of high-res stills for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which have sailed onto the interwebs by way of Collider.

Brought to life with manic glee by the great Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall), by the time Disney’s sequel opens in May, Salazar will have clawed his way out of the Devil’s Triangle with an army of ghost pirates in tow. His target? Captain Jack Sparrow, whom he blames for dooming his men to a miserable life spent roaming the high seas in search of salvation. Evoking memories of Captain Jack’s original rivalry with Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), there’s no question that Dead Men Tell No Tales is tinged with nostalgia.

International Poster For Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Gathers Sparrow’s Swashbuckling Crew

8 March 2017 10:05 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Captain Jack Sparrow, the perpetual underdog of the seven seas, assembles his swashbuckling crew in the new international poster for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Flanked by Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), Henry (Brenton Thwaites), Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and the glowering Salazar (Javier Bardem), Johnny Depp’s eccentric hero is placed front and center. Confronted by unspeakable evil, Sparrow will soon face his greatest adventure to date, after Salazar claws his way out of the so-called Devil’s Triangle seeking revenge.

Armed with a crew of undead pirates – hence the title – Dead Men Tell No Tales looks to place a laser focus on the bitter rivalry between Bardem and Johnny Depp’s warring seamen, and it’ll be fascinating to see how franchise newcomers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg balance that dynamic with the blockbuster action the series is celebrated for. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales May Not Be ‘The Final Adventure’ After All

3 March 2017 3:00 PM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Pirates of the Caribbean has always been one of those franchises that could go on forever. Sure, audiences could easily tire of these movies, but as far as stories go, like the Marvel and DC films, the plot can pretty go in any direction the studio wants for about as long as they want. After the events in the first trilogy culminated in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, there really was no reason to go back. But they did, and regardless of how dull the On Stranger Tides was, it made money.

Now, six years later, we’re getting another film in the form of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. As is with most films these days, we half expected this to a start to another series of films, but in the recent trailer for the film, it was implied that it may »

Coming Distractions: Jack Sparrow meets a ghost shark in the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean trailer

2 March 2017 8:00 AM, PST | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Here’s another trailer for the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean movie that will come trudging your way this summer. The fifth in the franchise involves yet another maniacal, undead man of the sea hunting for Johnny Depp’s still bewildered Captain Jack Sparrow. This time the villain is played by Javier Bardem, chewing the scenery right alongside Depp. Sparrow aligns himself with two heroic youngsters played by the blandly handsome Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario, whose character is treated like a sex object despite apparently being a ”brilliant” astronomer, according to the plot summary.

And—hold up—is that a ghost shark jumping through the air? Indeed it is. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, and opens May 26.

New Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Trailer Brings Us More Action On The High Seas!

2 March 2017 7:36 AM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Pirates of the Caribbean is one of those franchises that seemed to have randomly fallen off a cliff. After the first film in the franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, hit, the series seemed to have real promise. Unfortunately, fans seemed to like the films less and less as it worked its way through Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End. However, despite this seemingly declining interest, Disney went forward with a fourth film, On Stranger Tides. While the film didn’t perform very well in North America, it more than made up for it overseas, and still managed to crack $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

But after the success of On Stranger Tides, conversation around a sequel kind of dried up. Perhaps it was Disney reading the signs that the franchise needed a bit of a break, or perhaps it was »
