Lionsgate, Skydance Team on Global TV Distribution

Lionsgate and Skydance have formed a global television distribution pact to launch Skydance International, which will include Skydance’s “Grace and Frankie” and “Manhattan.”

The partnership, announced Monday at Mipcom, will feature Skydance Media’s current and emerging premium TV properties worldwide following their initial U.S. broadcast. Lionsgate currently distributes nearly 2,000 hours of television programming annually around the globe.

The pact will also cover new properties that Skydance is developing for the international television marketplace, including “Lore,” which is executive produced by McG and written by Zack Stentz (“X-Men: First Class”), and “Madness of Angels,” inspired by Kate Griffin’s six-book fantasy series. The project is executive produced by “Divergent” helmer Neil Burger, who is also directing, and written by Ben Vanstone.

I don’t believe many viewers won’t have been taken back to their own childhoods, adolescences and early loves by Rosie and Loll’s pastoral romance

Another Sunday, another adaptation of a classic of 20th century literature. They’ve been fabulous though, and Cider With Rosie (BBC1, Sunday), the last, is no exception. There’ll be moans and grouches of course, as there have been with the previous ones – they changed this and left out that, the murder, the uncles. It’s about mathematics, though, and different media: a 300 page book doesn’t always fit neatly into 90 mins of TV. And what works in one doesn’t always work in the other. A certain amount of trimming and alteration is required.

Which Ben Vanstone, the tailor/mathematician/adapter, has done expertly. The uncles are lost (the grannies – Trill and Wallon – survive, happily … well, until they sadly die). It doesn »
