Bahubali director SS Rajamouli to head panel discussion at Cannes

After storming the box office in India the southern hit Bahubali that also released in Hindi will be heading to Cannes. In fact we hear that the director of the film SS Rajamouli will head a panel discussion at the 68th Cannes Film Festival. The festival which is slated to be held from May 11 to 22 and will see the Bahubali team participating in a panel discussion titled 'Increasing the Intensity and Scale of Epic Film Experiences through Virtual Reality (Vr)' at the Next Pavilion on May 16. Rajamouli, Shobu and Raja Koduri, the vice president of Radeon Technology Group (Rtg), will talk about Vr at the Marche du Film, a film market event. Sunny Deol teams up with SS Rajamouli for Mera Bharat Mahan

Sunny Deol, whose last release Ghayal Once Again did average business at the box office, has moved on to his next. In fact the actor has roped in the Bahubali director, SS Rajamouli to helm his next venture titled Mera Bharat Mahan.

Sunny, who has always been associated with films that feature an underlying patriotic theme, has not only roped in Rajamouli, but has in fact also managed to get his father Dharmendra, writer-director and Kv Vijayendra Prasad for his next venture. Titled Mera Bharat Mahaan, the patriotic-themed movie will be scripted and helmed by Prasad, who also wrote last year's hits Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Bahubali: The Beginning.

Though it is unclear whether Rajamouli will direct the film, he will be the creative director of the project. With this it seems like Sunny Deol is all set to capture the big screen once again with the film scheduled to go on floors in June. »

‘Baahubali’ Wins Best Film at India’s National Film Awards

Director S.S. Rajamouli’s “Baahubali: The Beginning” won best feature at the Indian government’s annual National Film Awards. The film grossed some $90 million in India and is releasing across 30 international territories.

Veteran Amitabh Bachchan was named best actor for his performance in “Piku,” while Kangana Ranaut won best actress for “Tanu Weds Manu Returns.” For Ranaut, the win is the second in a row after last year’s plaudit for “Queen.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali was named best director for “Bajirao Mastani.” Neeraj Ghaywan won best debut for “Masaan,” a film that won the Fipresci Prize and the Avenir Prize in Un Certain Regard at Cannes 2015.

Samuthirakani won supporting actor for “Visaaranai” that had won the Amnesty International Italia Award at Venice 2015.  Tanvi Azmi won supporting actress for “Bajirao Mastani” and the film also won best cinematography for Sudeep Chatterjee.

Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival – Asian Film Presence

Thirty four Asian films will be screen during the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival here is the complete list.

Created in 1983 the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (Bifff) focus on horror, thriller, and science fiction films. This year the festival will take place from March 29th until April 10th in the city of Brussels (Belgium). This year thirty four Asian movies will be presented during the festival. This year South Korean movies are predominant as there will be thirteen Korean films. Some of the highlights are Baahubali: The Beginning (S.S. Rajamouli), Veteran (Seung-wan Ryoo), Memories of the Sword (Park Heung-sik), Tag (Sion Sono), The Deal (Son Yong-Ho) and The Priests (Jae-hyun Jang).

Bahubali The Conclusions release shifted to April 14 2017

In July last year, we saw the release of the South film Bahubali: The Beginning. The film that was presented by Karan Johar's Dharma Production went on to become surprise hit of 2015, breaking almost every rule of box office success formula. In fact the audience couldn't stop raving about the film with numerous memes being created and viraled around this epic. Post the Bahubali's, everyone has been waiting for the release of the film's sequel with bated breath. In fact, the much awaited sequel was set for a clash with the Aamir Khan starrer Dangal during Christmas 2016. However, now we hear that the clash has been averted as the release of Bahubali: The Conclusion has been shifted to 2017. Graphic India to Expand Blockbuster ‘Baahubali’ to Comics, Animation, Novels

India’s Arka Mediaworks has teamed with character entertainment company Graphic India to expand its blockbuster “Baahubali: The Beginning” across formats including comic books, novels, animation and gaming.

2015 release “Baahubali: The Beginning”, directed by S.S. Rajamouli, and produced by Arka’s Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni, grossed more than $88 million worldwide. A shorter international version cut by Vincent Tabaillon, (“Now You See Me”, “Taken 2”) is set to roll out across 30 international territories.

The transmedia expansion of “Baahubali” will begin with graphic novels. The first two are already in production, Graphic India co-founder Sharad Devarajan revealed. Also in the works is a larger, animated project, currently titled “Baahubali: The Lost Legends”.

“The market is dominated by Western and Japanese animation. We want to see if Indian animation can work across the world,” Devarajan told Variety. With the franchise’s gaming component Arka and Graphic India are also targeting India’s 900 million mobile users. »

Come January 26 aka India's Republic Day this year, and the prestigious Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards will be handed (read 'conferred') upon the much deserving winners. The list of winners this year include the likes of Rajinikanth, Anupam Kher, Udit Narayan, Ajay Devgn, S.S. Rajamouli, Madhur Bhandarkar, (late) Saeed Jaffrey and Priyanka Chopra.
