While Jerry Seinfeld and his writing partner Spike Feresten didn’t necessarily have an initial plan for the casting in Unfrosted, the pair knew they had to have Hugh Grant as Frosted Flakes’ mascot Tony the Tiger.
The director and writer recently spoke to IndieWire about how they scored the Notting Hill star for the role of Thurl Ravenscroft in the Netflix Pop-Tart comedy.
“There was a long time where we didn’t have anybody to make this movie. We had the budget, we had the script, but we didn’t have any people to play the parts,” Seinfeld recalled. “That was one of the most terrifying moments. We would go into this little room that we had with each part on a 3×5 card on the wall. And we had [Jim] Gaffigan as Kellogg — and that was it. And there were like 30 parts.”

Bill Burr was in the middle of a standup set in the original room at The Comedy Cellar when his cell phone rang: It was Jerry Seinfeld. What do you do? Burr answered.
Seinfeld wanted Burr to play JFK in his Pop-Tarts (fake) origin story, “Unfrosted.” Burr immediately accepted the role — and then went back to telling jokes to the paying customers.
It was the fastest (and the most public) “yes” that Seinfeld and his writing partner Spike Feresten say they got from a tremendous ensemble comedy cast that includes Seinfeld himself, as well as Jim Gaffigan, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Hugh Grant, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer — there’s honestly just too many to list. That wasn’t always the case.

What’s the deal with Pop-Tarts? Jerry Seinfeld is here to provide an answer.
Netflix just released the first trailer for “Unfrosted,” Seinfeld’s feature directorial debut that ostensibly explains how Kellogg’s invented the breakfast treat beloved by millions for decades.
“Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen,” reads the Netflix description.
But as shown in the trailer, “Unfrosted” is anything but straight-faced, and instead treats this de facto arms race like an actual arms race, with Post (led by Amy Schumer and Max Greenfield) positioned as the Soviet Union to the United States of Kellogg’s (where Seinfeld and Melissa McCarthy are the heroes). The all-star cast also includes Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, James Marsden, Bill Burr, Christian Slater, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, and Bobby Moynihan.

From Beanie Babies to Pop-Tarts, the history of distinctly American consumerism is taking a big screen swing.
Jerry Seinfeld writes, directs, and stars in Netflix’s “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story” centered on cereal rival companies Kellogg’s and Post that set out in a culinary equivalent of the space race: create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast. The film is set in the aptly-titled Battle Creek, Michigan in 1963. “Unfrosted” marks Seinfeld’s directorial debut.
The all-star cast includes Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, Bill Burr, Daniel Levy, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, Bobby Moynihan, Adrian Martinez, Sarah Cooper, and Fred Armisen. Hugh Grant also plays an early Tony the Tiger mascot, swapping the Oompa Loompa orange from “Wonka” for tiger stripes in a full-on costume you have to see to believe.

The space race rarely seemed so serious.
Jerry Seinfeld’s new Netflix comedy Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story charts a challenge that’s cleverly made to seem equally consequential: the ’60s-era battle between Kellogg’s and Post cereal companies to reinvent breakfast with the development of what would come to be known as Pop-Tarts.
And the stakes are high – and deadly.
“I believe we have split the atom of breakfast,” Seinfeld’s character pronounces.
After a series of cutthroat developments, Amy Schumer’s character ponders solemnly, “How did it get this far?”
“It’s breakfast,” comes the response. “Things happen.”
Netflix has assembled an all-star cast to tell this truth-inspired tale, with Seinfeld, making his directorial feature debut, starring alongside Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer and a slew of famous faces in cameo appearances. Among them: Hugh Grant, Max Greenfield, Bill Burr,...

Not a single person asked for this, but we're getting it anyway. You likely never wondered about the intense brand rivalry between Kellogg's and Post that went into the invention of Pop-Tarts -- and, honestly, why would you? -- but the real-life drama behind the breakfast staple proved too much to resist, apparently. In a world where we can get an Oscar-winning drama about Facebook from one of our greatest living directors, a weirdly watchable biopic on the guy behind McDonald's starring Batman, and most recently Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's "Moneyball"-like deep-dive into Nike's Air Jordan sneakers, why the heck wouldn't we get a movie all about the process behind how breakfast was reinvented forever?
From part-time comedian and star of "Bee Movie," "Unfrosted" marks Jerry Seinfeld's feature film directorial debut, stars an all-star ensemble of comedic talent, and, after years of Seinfeld threatening us with this movie,...

Netflix has released the trailer for Jerry Seinfeld’s upcoming Pop-Tart movie, “Unfrosted,” set for release on May 3.
Per Netflix’s Tudum, the logline for “Unfrosted” reads, “Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen, ‘Unfrosted’ stars writer-director Jerry Seinfeld.”
As Tudum acknowledges on the official “Unfrosted” page, Seinfeld has been contemplating the Pop-Tart origin story for years. For example, he made his artistic vision clear in a 2018 post on X/Twitter: “At one point I was thinking about an invention of the Pop Tart movie. Imagine the drunk on sugar-power Kellogg’s cereal culture of the mid-60’s in Battle Creek, Mi. That’s a vibe I could work with.” He also brought up the idea on “The Late Show” in 2010.

In a perfect world, Leap Day would entail some celebrations. Not to worry, though. This 30 Rock episode, starring an iconic Jim Carrey and Andie MacDowell cameo, has your back. Gear up for blue and yellow-themed festivities and, of course, a fictional movie that can give even Groundhog Day a run for its money! Be careful about getting your eyes poked, though.
The titular ninth episode of the sixth season of the Tina Fey-starring satirical sitcom series honors this fake holiday, concocting a blend of tropes seen in most films centered around such celebratory occasions.
Jim Carrey is a fictional character, Dave Williams, in the 30 Rock universe!

How does one repay a team of producers for launching its highest grossing film of all time? Give them the key to the studio — literally.
On Monday, “Barbie” producers, LuckyChap’s Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara inked a first-look deal at Warner Bros., which distributed the $1.4 billion-grossing movie. So, to celebrate, Warner Bros. Pictures Group Co-Chairs and CEO Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca decided to resurrect an old tradition, started by WB co-founder Jack Warner.
“Every once in a while, when a significant piece of talent signed a deal with the studio, he presented that company, that talent, with a key to the studio,” De Luca said as he and Abdy raised a toast to the trio. “We are so delighted to have our first key to our studio be given to LuckyChap.”

Last night, millions tuned into the 2024 Super Bowl. As has become a capitalist tradition, even people who aren't football fans watched the big game just to see all of the big new commercials, man of which feature some of the biggest stars in Hollywood. In addition to new trailers for upcoming blockbusters like "Deadpool and Wolverine" and "Twisters," there were also some hilarious commercials with Ben Affleck forming a hip-hop group with Matt Damon for Dunkin and Arnold Schwarzenegger reuniting with his "Twins" co-star Danny DeVito for State Farm insurance. But none of those ads were the most watched on YouTube during Super Bowl Sunday.
You might be asking yourself, if everyone is watching the Super Bowl, how do you determine the most watched commercial? Well, according to Variety, this is based on YouTube's own viewing stats that it measured worldwide on gameday, starting February 11 from 12:00am Et until...

At the 2024 Super Bowl, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Usher soaked up the limelight as the Kansas City Chiefs became back-to-back champions with their overtime defeat of the San Francisco 49ers.
And of course, the Super Bowl was again a venue for dozens of advertisers — who spent up to $7 million for a 30-second spot in CBS’s telecast — to try to break through on the noisiest night on TV. Many marketers used the time-tested tactic of deploying star-studded commercials, a phenomenon described by one ad exec as “a celebrity arms race.”
As tracked by YouTube, the No. 1 most-watched spot on Super Bowl Sunday was Tina Fey’s turn for Booking.com, in which the “Saturday Night Live” alum hires “body doubles” to imagine different versions of herself on vacation. Bust out the blue sequins, polish up your roller skates, and start sending those congratulatory gifts to Taylor Swift. As the country participated in the gratuitous orgy of capitalism otherwise known as Super Bowl Lviii, the real ones know that even though the Chiefs came out on top in a down-to-the-wire overtime win over the 49ers, the bona fide highlights of every Super Bowl Sunday are those super spots. Judging by motifs of the past, some years the commercials are downright weird, while in other eras the bulk focused on heart-wrenching sentimentality.

Sarah Silverman is taking a new swing at David Letterman’s fondly recalled “Stupid Pet Tricks,” and it would be easy to say something about the comic “going to the dogs” or “hoping the new show has legs.” But Silverman has a lot more in store than skateboarding canines and bubble-popping reptiles.
That’s right, this isn’t your dad’s “Stupid Pet Tricks.”
“The stupid pet tricks happen in front of the camera,” says Silverman during a recent interview, but “we wanted to make it kind of a ‘Muppet Show’ where you see behind the scenes.” Every episode has a storyline that might involve a writers’ room with just one human, or Jack McBrayer as a rival host with his own animal program. Will Ferrell, Jon Hamm, Reggie Watts and Judd Apatow are among the other guests who take on roles within the program. Even Letterman makes an appearance.

Tina Fey realizes she can be whoever she wants to be in a new Booking.com Super Bowl commercial.
“With so many choices on Booking.com, there are so many Tina Feys I could be,” the actress/producer/comedian said in the footage. “So I hired body doubles to help me out.”
It turns out that some of the people Fey hired in the ad spot are actually her former co-stars from the hit TV show 30 Rock, including Jane Krakowski and Jack McBrayer.
In the video, Krakowski takes on “Splurgy Tina [who] loves a hotel near Rodeo Drive.” And Sasquatch Tina says, “Rustic Tina loves this Wyoming cabin,” while getting a haircut from McBrayer.
Actress-singer Glenn Close then makes a cameo, riding on a horse. She says, “Wild Tina booked a farm stay to ride this horse.”

Anthony Anderson’s mom?
The postponed Emmys had far more great moments than bad, thank goodness — starting with the brisk, git’ ‘er done pace, which seemed particularly on brand for the scrappier-than-ever Fox. And though the night was packed with far too many anti-climactic moments (as if any show other than Succession would rack up all the trophies), the meet-cutes on stage made for fun TV and the sentimental interpretation of the title song from Friends during the In Memoriam segment was both appropriate and absolutely heartbreaking.
Best Moments
Anthony Anderson’s opening monologue, which began with him walking into his own “Mister Anderson’s Neighborhood.” After throwing off his fur coat, he then sat down at a piano and, joined by a chorus from Compton, sang a medley of title songs like “Good...

Mariah Carey‘s “Touch My Body” is a great song, but it’s not one of Carey’s more personal offerings. Her future husband, Nick Cannon, almost appeared in the song’s music video. However, he was replaced with a sitcom star for artistic reasons.
Mariah Carey’s ‘Touch My Body’ music video features a star of the show ’30 Rock’
In her 2020 book The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” singer discussed her mindset circa 2008. “I was feeling stronger, and I hadn’t felt good about myself in a while,” she wrote. “We were going to cast my new friend Nick in the ‘Touch My Body’ video, since he was a comedian and we were taking a humorous twist with it.”
Carey decided against having her future husband appear in the clip. “But the role in the video was for a computer geek, and while Nick was really funny,...

Elvis Presley is still an influential and beloved singer, but he doesn’t have the most No. 1 hits ever. With her hit “Touch My Body,” Mariah Carey beat Elvis’ record. However, she still doesn’t have the most No. 1 hits of all time.
Mariah Carey thanked her fans for getting ‘Touch My Body’ to beat Elvis’ record
2008 was a very sexy year for popular music. Lots of the biggest hits of that year were risque, such as Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop,” Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl,” Usher’s “Love in This Club,” and Flo Rida’s “Low.” One of the more memorable tunes from that year was Carey’s playful “Touch My Body.”
In her 2020 autobiography The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Carey recalled learning that “Touch My Body” hit No. 1. “Thanks to my fans, who really got behind the song, knowing how significant it would be, ‘Touch My Body’ became my eighteenth No.

Apple is not moving forward with another season of “Central Park,” Variety has confirmed.
Previously, series star Josh Gad, who also serves as EP and writer, shared the news over the weekend on social media, telling fans “Sadly, it’s done” when asked about the show’s return.
The animated comedy follows “Owen Tillerman and his family live an unconventional life in New York’s bustling Central Park, which Owen manages; now, they’ll have to fend off a wealthy hotel heiress who wants to turn the park into condos,” per the series description.
Season 3, which was released on Sept. 9, picked up with Kristen Bell in a new role on the show. Bitsy continued her pursuit to buy the park as Owen took on a new promotional campaign to make more people fall in love with it. Meanwhile, Paige wound up busier than ever after landing her first book deal.

This post contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
"Star Trek: Lower Decks" loves a reference. If viewers were to try to count the number of inter-franchise references dropped at rapid-speed in a single episode of the animated comedy, they'd likely lose count. Sometimes the fannish U.S.S. Cerritos crew calls attention to the show's homages and callbacks, but other times, they play out without comment. That was the case this week when, in keeping with the show's seventh episode of the season tradition, rogue tech once again tried to take over the world.
Not only did polarizing, villainous Exocomp Peanut Hamper (Kether Donohue) return in the latest episode, but so did evil computer Agimus (Jeffrey Combs) and corrupted AI hologram Badgey (Jack McBrayer). In an episode that plays around with longstanding "Star Trek" ideas about rogue sentient technology, the Cerritos crew spends much of their time in "A...

This article contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
After over 50 years of canon, "Star Trek" is littered with several cautionary tales of fearsome villains who nearly brought the entirety of Starfleet and even the quadrant at large to its knees, so wasn't it about time for "Lower Decks" to get in on the action? Throughout the series and especially in the fourth season, certain recurring antagonists have been carefully established and subsequently defeated, though with a few doors left open to potentially set up their ability to inflict maximum damage down the line. Well, that time has finally come as of episode 7, titled "A Few Badgeys More," but nothing quite unfolds the way viewers may have expected.

Way to subvert expectations, Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 4 Episode 7.
Between Badgey and Peanut Hamper, an AI uprising and takeover has been brewing in the background for multiple seasons now.
Who could've predicted that all their daddy issues could be resolved by simply ascending to godhood and moving back home, respectively?
Considering the entirety of the multiple narratives is concerned with the feelings of three rogue sentient programs with histories of bad acts, our organic heroes get to develop some depth.
Boimler plays the long game with Agimus, and it pays off. Rutherford gets the best of Badgey, quite literally. Even Peanut Hamper evolves when she finally lives up to Tendi's belief in her innate goodness.
While Jeffrey Combs is a legend in terms of Star Trek appearances, Agimus is the least well-known of the triumvirate of tech troublemakers, having only appeared in his introductory episode (Star Trek: Lower Decks...

Warning: This post contains spoilers for season 4, episode 7 of "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
The newest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," called "A Few Badgeys More," sees the return of three of the show's more notorious villains, all of them sentient computers or artificial life forms. The first villain is Peanut Hamper (Kether Donohue), a small, floating robotic exocomp who was once a Starfleet officer but who betrayed her rank and discovered deceit and villainy were a better way to get the power she wanted. The second is Agimus (Jeffrey Combs), a malevolent computer whose programming broke and led him toward the path of world domination. Both Peanut Hamper and Agimus are currently incarcerated in a Starfleet rehabilitation prison designed specially for evil machines that go rogue. Evidently, villainous computers are common enough to warrant such a facility.

Warning: This article contains spoilers and reckless, downright irresponsible speculation about the latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
There's a serial killer -- in a manner of speaking -- on the loose in "Star Trek: Lower Decks." Ever since the concluding moments of the season 4 premiere, almost every episode has included a brief prologue centered on the lower decks crew of some doomed alien spaceship in the moments before encountering the same, mysterious object with a nasty attitude. The pattern has remained the same in each and every encounter: Upon confronting the strange vessel, each victimized ship has had to helplessly watch as the strange enemy fires up its weapons, inexplicably drains power from its intended target, and subsequently blasts them into pieces with shocking ease. So far, the kill list has included several classic "Trek" species like Klingons, Romulans, and now Orions, with no end in sight.

Sometimes, the people who make the biggest difference aren’t the ones who grab the spotlight. In “Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie,” we get to see firsthand how our lovable introvert, Marcie, makes a monumental difference from behind the scenes for both her friends and her community. To train for the school golf championship, Marcie assists Peppermint Patty as her caddie, offering thoughtful and deliberate advice to help her win. Meanwhile, after coming up with brilliant solutions to her classmates’ problems – from hallway traffic jams to lunchtime pizza shortages – Marcie is unexpectedly elected as class president … a role she never wanted.
Suddenly thrust into the spotlight, Marcie struggles to cope with the expectations of her new job and retreats as far from the public eye as possible. As the golf championship begins, Marcie is still in hiding and Peppermint Patty is forced to tee off with Charlie Brown filling in as her caddie.

Sean Penn has protested wars in Iraq, walked with democracy demonstrators in Cairo and spearheaded natural relief efforts. But today in Burbank on the 19th day of the SAG-AFTRA strike and 92nd day of the WGA work stoppage, the two-time Oscar winner braved the muggy 87-degree weather in support of his fellow writers and actors.
If you glance on social media, you might notice that some stars are off on faraway vacations during this tumultuous time as the guilds are at odds with the AMPTP. But not Penn, who circled Disney Studios several times today with his Into the Wild star Emile Hirsch. They were joined by Oscar winner Octavia Spencer, Yellowjackets’ Melanie Lynskey, Veep‘s Timothy Simons, 30 Rock‘s Jack McBrayer, two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda and Mrs. Davis co-creator Damon Lindelof.

Back in January, the band Ok Go got involved in a bizarre lawsuit with Post Foods over the right to use the band’s name for a line of instant cereal cups named Ok Go! Now, the two parties have reached a confidential settlement and asked a Minnesota federal judge to dismiss the lawsuit permanently.
According to Billboard, the court filing said the band and the cereal giant had “settled this action on terms agreeable to all parties” without specifying the terms of the agreement in public court records. As such, it’s not clear whether Ok Go will be paid or whether the Ok Go! brand will continue with a different name.
However, the band itself shared a statement on social media reading, “The litigation with Post over the Ok Go trademark was resolved pursuant to a confidential settlement agreement and Post has agreed to withdraw its application to register ‘Ok Go!
