Paris–  France’s Indie Sales has boarded “Suburra,” the anticipated sophomore pic of Italy’s rising helmer Stefano Sollima, who wowed critics with his feature debut “”A.C.A.B.: All Cops Are Bastards” and the TV skein “Gomorrah, The Series” (pictured above).

Based on a novel by Giancarlo de Cataldo (“Romanzo Criminale”) and Carlo Bonini (“Acab All Cops are bastards”), “Suburra” was penned by Stefano Rulli and Sandro Petraglia, the scribe duo behind “The Best of Youth,” “Romanzo Criminale” and “My brother is an only child.”

An organized-crime thriller, “Suburra” focuses on the various incarnations of Italian Power – Politics, Vatican, Mafia – and how they meet and collide, leading to corruption, money laundering, drugs and prostitution.

Pic follows a gangster known as the “Samurai” who wants to turn the waterfront of a small town close to Rome into a new Atlantic City and receives protection from a corrupt politician and a powerful cardinal. »
