He is a Russian figure skater, who won the gold medal in the men's singles competition at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, and silver medals in 2002 and 2010.

His first wife, Mariya Ermak, studied sociology at the <i>Sankt-Peterburgskiy gosudarstvennyy universitet</i> (Saint Petersburg State University).

His son, Egor Evgenivich, by his first wife Mariya Ermak, was born on June 15, 2006, in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

He is a three-time World Champion, a six-time European Champion, and a four-time Grand Prix Final Champion, winning in various years between 1999 and 2010. In addition, he is an eight-time Russian National Champion, winning in 1999-2002, 2004-2006, and 2010.
