December Movie Trailer Round Up

31 December 2010 4:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

This month has been one of the best that I can remember for trailers. All the studios were desperate for their trailer to get released before the Christmas holidays and we were inundated with posts. Since I love trailers so much, the inundation was most welcome. In what I am considering making a monthly post, here’s a roundup of all the trailers so far for December which I have embedded below for your viewing pleasure!

I’ve embedded them in the order in which they were released start December 1st to 31st and if I miss any, please let me know and I’ll update the post.

I really want this to be intereactive so make sure you tell us which trailers you liked the best and which you think will be great or terrible movies from what you’ve seen! So, let’s go!

‘Real Steel’ starring Hugh Jackman – trailer review

13 December 2010 6:42 AM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

Real Steel

Directed by: Shawn Levy

Starring: Hugh Jackman, Kevin Durand, Evangeline Lilly

Rating: Tbd

Release Date: October 7, 2011

Trailer Score: 5/10

My Thoughts: The beginning of this trailer definitely held my interest; I liked the sights and sounds of the semi-futuristic world, and thought to myself, “this might be a good one,” but that was only until the CGI Rock’Em Sock’Em robots showed up, dashing my hopes to smithereens. Hugh Jackman looks great, but it’s hard to take him seriously amidst the goofy fighting robots. The whole idea has a piggyback/cash-in vibe to it, which makes sense ultimately, as it’s coming in on the heels of financial supergiant Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (the second highest grossing film of 2009, raking in over $400 million in domestic ticket sales).

I suppose this film might have some new wrinkles, but if it does, they’re not terribly apparent in this trailer. »

Movie Trailer: Real Steel (Starring Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly, Kevin Durand & Anthony Mackie)

9 December 2010 11:19 PM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

Consider it the movie version of the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots Game line. Rocky meets Transformers: Dark of the Moon in this upcoming film from Director Shawn Levy. If you know Levy's work from the Night at the Museum franchise and Date Night, you should expect a completely different movie here. This one's all about action and less about comedy. Hopefully, Levy doesn't take himself too seriously in an effort to shake the comedy stigma in this purportedly "gritty, white-knuckle, action ride." Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly (Lost), Dakota Goyo (Arthur), Kevin Durand (Lost, I Am Number Four) and Anthony Mackie (No Ordinary Family). Real Steel Trailer: Hugh Jackman Plays Rock 'Em Sock 'Em

9 December 2010 3:30 PM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

If you watched this morning's teaser for Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon, you may have wondered, what happened to the robots. The footage was nearly devoid of them, but I think we may have discovered where they ran off to: this preview for Real Steel. Hugh Jackman stars as a former boxer, relegated to the sidelines now that robots have become the main attraction in the ring. Jackman's character discovers he has a son, and together, they train a steel contender for competition. The film is directed by Shawn Levy, who also did the Night at the Museum films, so I was expecting the movie to be somewhat light. Not so. Judging by the trailer, it's trying to be a serious action movie, in which case it definitely looks ridiculous. Boxing practice with a robot on a motel front lawn? C'mon. Hugh Jackman + Robot Boxing = Ultimate WTFighting

9 December 2010 11:16 AM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Okay, here’s the pitch for “Real Steel”: in the near future, boxing and mixed martial arts have been replaced by an all-new, all-better form of violent entertainment — robot fighting. Hugh Jackman stars as a former boxer who gets a second lease on life when he begins piloting a Transformers-style robotic Iron Man suit thingy inside the ring, where he takes on other angry robot people in fights to the virtual death. Our response?

Well, as Jackman shouts in the new trailer: “Bring it!”

Yes, the first look at “Real Steel” has hit the internet and we’ve got to give it props, because we literally didn’t believe this was an actual movie until we saw the footage. It just sounds like some kind of crazy fever dream. “Hey man, let’s have Hugh Jackman as a robot boxer and we’ll, like, add in Evangeline Lilly from »

Real Steel Trailer Starring Hugh Jackman

9 December 2010 11:01 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Well it looks like Michael Bay's closest competition next year may come in the form of a "Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots"-inspired boxing movie that is also executive produced by Steven Spielberg. After the somewhat underwhelming teaser trailer [1] for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the first trailer for Real Steel has arrived online this week and offers a little bit more in the way of robot-on-robot action. I have to admit, I was a bit surprised by the grittiness of the trailer, considering that it's from Shawn Levy, director of Night at the Museum. I wouldn't say I'm sold on it yet, but I'm definitely more interested than I was before. Hugh Jackman stars as Charlie Kenton, a former boxer who now makes a living as a small-time promoter, but also dreams of building a championship robot contender. That opportunity does not come until he teams up with »

‘Real Steel’ Trailer Finds Hugh Jackman In The Robot Ring

9 December 2010 10:49 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Not sure what’s more surprising: that the trailer for the Hugh Jackman robot action film Real Steel has just appeared online, or that it actually looks fairly decent. Directed by, of all people, Shawn Levy (who has the less-than-impressive track record with the two Night at the Museum movies and The Pink Panther), the effects-heavy action movie received its first trailer and the first real look we’ve had at the movie, found over at ThePlaylist.

While the whole thing is obviously very silly, it seems to capture the right kind of tone that a movie like this would need to work. I certainly don’t feel like I’m being facetious when I say that this looks like a better fighting robots movie than Transformers: Dark of the Moon, whose slipshod teaser left me fairly cold. Jackman’s presence is always a good thing, and it almost seemed »

So, you’ve already had one robot based movie trailer today with the release of the so called ‘announcement piece‘ for Michael Bay’s Transformer sequel. Fancy another?

Hugh Jackman stars as a washed up human boxer turned promoter who bonds with his estranged son (Dakota Goyo) whilst training a robot Rocky.

Directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Date Night) and produced by Steven Spielberg – the film is planned for an October 7, 2011 release and looks like a toy manufacturers dream.

The film also stars Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, Kevin Durand, Hope Davis, James Rebhorn and Olga Fonda.

First Trailer for Shawn Levy’s Real Steel

9 December 2010 10:08 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The first trailer for Shawn Levy’s Real Steel has leaked onto the net and you can check it out after the jump.  Originally the trailer was going to premiere on Espn tonight, but as is often the case, it leaked early.  As you might have just seen, I visited the editing room of Real Steel earlier this week and saw about ten minutes of the film and interviewed Levy.  I learned that none of the effects in the teaser are final, and the footage you’re about to watch only skims the surface in terms of story and what the movie is about.

I’ll be honest, I think the teaser is decent, but not a home-run.  I say this because after watching ten minutes of footage, there is a lot more to Real Steel than what’s in this teaser and I really think this film is going »
