Sony Pictures Animation has let loose the first full-length Smurfs: The Lost Village trailer ahead of the sequel's release next year.

The first thing that immediately jumps out in this trailer is the absolute absence of any live-action or Smurfs running around New York City. The Smurfs are sticking with their animated roots for what looks like a pretty fun adventure to discover a whole new world.

The Smurfs are back and bluer than ever.

The first full-length trailer for “Smurfs: The Lost Village,” the latest project in the “Smurfs” franchise, was released Monday by Sony Pictures Entertainment. Based on the beloved Belgian cartoon series, the film’s cast includes Demi Lovato, Mandy Patinkin, Jack McBrayer, Danny Pudi, Joe Manganiello, and Rainn Wilson.

When Smurfette (Lovato) stumbles upon a familiar-looking creature who leaves behind a map in the Enchanted Forest, the trailer asks the question: “What if they were never alone?” Along with her friends Brainy (Pudi), Clumsy (McBrayer), and Hefty (Manganiello), the Smurfs embark on a mission to find the mysterious lost village.
