‘The Mindy Project’ All 5 Seasons Coming to VH1, Freeform Under NBCU Syndication Deal

The Mindy Project” is coming to cable: Syndication rights to the Mindy Kaling comedy have been acquired by Viacom’s VH1 and Disney’s Freeform, via a pact with NBCUniversal Television and New Media Distribution.

In an unconventional arrangement, Hulu will continue to hold subscription-streaming rights to all five seasons of the single-camera comedy, with the 16-episode fifth installment of “The Mindy Project” set to debut on the service Oct. 4.

Under the syndication pact, VH1 and Freeform will begin airing episodes from the first four seasons of the show in October, and those also will be available on VH1 and Freeform apps. Season 5 of “The Mindy Project” will become available to the cablers one year after their premiere on Hulu.

Variety confirms the actresses will headline an untitled comedy set behind-the-scenes of a late-night talk show. Over the years Mindy Kaling has been vocal about her love for Ang Lee’s Sense and Sensibility, written by and starring Emma Thompson. Kaling put it on her list of #Fave7Films and said in 2014 that “Thompson gets overlooked for” it.
