"Guardians Of The Galaxy": Del Toro Is 'The Collector'

8 December 2013 9:06 PM, PST | SneakPeek | See recent SneakPeek news »

Oscar-winning actor Benicio Del Toro ("Traffic"), who co-stars in director James Gunn's upcoming space epic "Guardians of the Galaxy" plays Marvel Comics' character 'Taneleer Tivan' aka 'The Collector', an ancient sentient being from the Marvel Universe:

'The Collector' debuted in Marvel Comics' "Avengers" #28 (May 1966), created by Stan Lee and Don Heck.

'Taneleer Tivan' is one of the alien Elders of the Universe and is close to his fellow 'Elder En Dwi Gast' (aka 'Grandmaster'.  He apparently came to self-awareness billions of years ago, on the planet 'Cygnus X-1', as a  powerful being who wielded the 'Power Primordial' and, though at first he took the appearance of an old human, his true form is a powerful alien.

"...for millions of years, the 'Collector' lived on an unknown world with his wife and child, spending his days in thought and contemplation. Over three billion years ago, when his »

Movie Review: ‘Thor: The Dark World’ will win over Midgard’s Marvel Fans

8 November 2013 5:16 PM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

The first Thor was a commendable effort in superhero films. It did what it was supposed to, which was open the boundaries of the Marvel film universe from the confines of the United States and Midgard (Earth) to all the corners of space and the realms in between. Thor set the ball, The Avengers spiked it. Thor also successfully launched Chris Hemsworth as a Marvel films leading man, a believable son of Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and heart throb for unwilling parties being dragged to the theaters. But there was much to be desired as a stand-alone tale, even by its most ardent fans. There was a forced and awkward romance with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was a bigger star than its title character, Thor spent much of the film powerless and Asgard, the elite realm of the nine, is a ghost town in the film’s climax. »

Explaining the Thor: The Dark World end credits scene

30 October 2013 8:58 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Feature James Hunt 31 Oct 2013 - 06:36

Huge spoilers! We dig into the world of comics to explain the scene buried in the Thor: The Dark World end credits...

Ever since the first Iron Man movie had Samuel L. Jackson turn up to essentially promise an Avengers movie, Marvel's post-credits teasers have been as much of an event as the movies themselves, giving easter eggs to fans, teasing the events of future films and offering hints at where the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be going next. Thor: The Dark World is no different. There are two end credits scenes, but one is much more cryptic than the other.

We'll warn you now: Don't read any further unless you want the surprise (and some plot elements of Thor: The Dark World) completely spoiled for you. We're going all in with this one. This is a Spoiler Heavy article. We're even going to »

'Black Widow' In "Avengers: Age Of Ultron"

26 July 2013 4:23 PM, PDT | SneakPeek | See recent SneakPeek news »

Joss Whedon, writer/director of the upcoming Marvel Studios' sequel, "Avengers: Age Of Ultron", confirmed that Scarlett Johansson's ongoing portrayal of Marvel Comics' superspy 'Natasha Romanoff', aka 'Black Widow' will appear in the new movie in a big way.

"'Natasha' is a huge part of the sequel...", said Whedon.

"Although she is in 'Cap 2,' she was the most fun for me because she's not a hero, you know...

"...and it's something that I read—and I feel bad that I can't remember who wrote the book—but it's in one of the books explaining, 'These guys are heroes, you are a spy.

"It's a different thing—it's a different skill set—and you don't have their moral high ground or any of that good stuff.'

"And that just makes her so interesting to me.

"So yeah, the stuff I've got going on with her »
