Anthony Geary bid adieu to “General Hospital” on Tuesday after more than three decades of portraying Luke Spencer, taping his final episodes of the ABC soap. As might be expected, the farewell was an emotional one, with Geary’s co-stars pouring out their hearts on social media in tribute to their departing co-star. As a soap fan, I thought General Hospital’s 52nd Anniversary episode deserved some recognition. Today not only paid homage to the stars of the past who started a legacy, it also provided long-awaited answers about what caused the show’s most celebrated and recognizable character to break with reality. So the event which caused Luke Spencer to change so drastically was retold by older sister Patricia Spencer, portrayed by guest star Dee Wallace, and played out in black and white on the screen as Luke’s memories. Today’s episode was unique in several aspects. Firstly, the majority of it was shot in black and white, quite literally transporting fans back 52 years. Jason Thompson, who currently plays Patrick Drake, took on the role of legendary General Hospital doctor Steve Hardy, Elizabeth Webber’s potrayer Rebecca Herbst took on the role of Jessie Brewer, and Ryan Carnes took a break from playing Lucas Jones… »

Long-running daytime drama General Hospital, recently nominated for 28 Daytime Emmys, will commemorate its 52nd anniversary in its April 1 episode — 52 years to the day that the series debuted in 1963. What does one give for a 52nd anniversary? Closure, apparently.

ABC’s General Hospital on Wednesday, April 1, will at long last reveal the truth about what caused Luke Spencer’s (Anthony Geary) psychotic break, as promised in the new promo above (which will air during tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy).

Guest-starring in the episode will be Dee Wallace (E.T.), as Luke’s long-lost sister Patricia, who will help answer the long-brewing, dark questions.
