Sibel Kekilli: 'Game of Thrones'' Shae responds to Tyrion and Sansa's wedding

20 May 2013 8:00 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Neither Sansa nor Tyrion seem to be particularly happy about their wedding in last night's "Game of Thrones" episode, "Second Sons." Sansa didn't get to marry the handsome prince she always dreamed of, while Tyrion was forced to marry a child who doesn't love him.

But what about Shae? Sibel Kekilli's character has been an interesting development this season as she continues to be loyal to her secret lover Tyrion but also has become closer with her mistress Sansa. Zap2it recently had the chance to speak with Kekilli via e-mail and ask her about how her character responded to the news that her lover was marrying the woman she works for. Needless to say, Shae wasn't pleased.

Zap2it: What was going through Shae's mind when she first heard Tyrion was going to marry Sansa?

Sibel Kekilli: She definitely does not like that idea at all. Now »

'Game of Thrones' Star on Peter Dinklage: 'His Acting is Overwhelming'

12 May 2013 3:43 PM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Before being introduced to American audiences as Shae on HBO's Game of Thrones, German actress Sibel Kekilli was already a major star in Germany, having won two Lolas -- the country's highest film award. But joining Thrones proved a challenge, as it was the first time the actress had acted in a major role in English. She tells The Hollywood Reporter she initially had trouble on set, where Irish, Scottish and American accents abound. But her English improved, with co-star Peter Dinklage (who plays her love interest Tyrion Lannister) remarking during season 2 "your English is getting better, so now

Game of Thrones' Sibel Kekilli: Shae Is More Than Tyrion's Mistress

Leaving the life of prostitution behind is no guarantee of happiness on Game of Thrones.

Reader Spotlight: Patrick in Germany

25 April 2013 10:29 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

We're getting to know the Film Experience community one-by-one. This is going to take us forever! (That's a good thing. Thank you so much for being part of such a big vibrant fanbase.) Today we're talking to Patrick who lives in Germany and writes for DieAcademy.de, a German site devoted to our favorite awards show.

Hi, Patrick. How long have you been reading The Film Experience?

Maybe 6 years? I like this site so much since it's always interesting topics and wonderful to read.

I know you're really into the Oscars but how about the Lolas, Germany's own movie awards. Which German stars do you recommend our international readers get to know?

The Lolas are not as big of a deal as they should be, but I love some German actors who are still too unknown abroad but doing great work all the time, like: Sibel Kikelli (two time Lola »

Us Trailer For Kim Ki-Duk’s Venice Winner Pieta; Plus New Mondo Poster

8 April 2013 9:55 AM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Here’s the last trailer for controversial Korean director Kim Ki-Duk’s genuinely tense, violent drama film called Pieta, the 2012 Venice Golden Lion winner and South Korea’s Oscar entry. The dark crime drama stars Lee Jung-jin as a relentless loan shark tasked with gathering loans from impoverished residents of a blue-collar factory town, whose life is changed when a somber woman shows up claiming to be his long-lost mother, played by Cho Min-soo. The title draws from the Michelangelo sculpture of the Virgin Mary cradling Jesus as he bleeds to death because Kim tracks Kang-do’s transition from unfeeling loner to appreciative son. However, the movie looks...

"Game of Thrones" Recap: Release the Hounds

8 April 2013 7:41 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Big dogs of both human and fanged varieties played big parts in this week's episode. Let's jump right in!

We start the episode running through the woods at ground level - either I'm rewatching Evil Dead, or we're in one of Bran's kooky dreams again.

Sure enough, Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) - who can walk in his dreams, like the kid from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors - sees the Third Eye Blind Raven, and he tries to shoot it with Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) help. He misses. He hears Ned's voice, then some bratty kid who looks like a Muppet Baby version of Tate from American Horror Story shows up to tell him that he can't kill the raven because the raven is Him. Is this like that "one set of footprints" thing?

Hey - speaking of Brandon Stark, it's time to catch up on »

'Game of Thrones' Season 3, episode 2 recap: 'Dark Wings, Dark Words'

7 April 2013 8:01 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Been missing quality Stark family time thus far in Season 3? Well you're in luck, because its second episode focused primarily on Bran, Robb, Arya, Sansa and Catelyn Stark. Jon Snow made a brief appearance north of the Wall and Joffrey, Margaery, Jaime and Brienne all got plenty of screentime, but "Dark Wings, Dark Words" was definitely about getting fans back in touch with "Game of Thrones'" central family. Each member seemed to be in pretty good circumstances at this point season, but they're each surrounded by characters new to Season 3.

Here's what happened in "Game of Thrones" Season 3, episode 2, "Dark Wings, Dark Words":

North of Winterfell:

Bran is back, and so are his crow dreams. The episode opens with one, which allows Isaac Hempstead-Wright to get up and run around when Bran chases the mysterious three-eyed crow in the dream. There he sees his older brothers, Jon and Robb, »

Game Of Thrones Star Peter “Drunklage” Crashes Melissa McCarthy’s SNL

7 April 2013 9:35 AM, PDT | TheFabLife - Movies | See recent TheFabLife - Movies news »

Melissa McCarthy made her triumphant return to Saturday Night Live last night, but may have been eclipsed by a couple of well placed cameos. The Cold Open featured Bobby Moynihan‘s Kim Jong Un being joined by the actual Dennis Rodman and then Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage made an even bigger–and boozier–splash as Drunk Uncle’s brother in law, “Peter Drunklage”.

The last time Melissa McCarthy hosted, she had her Bridesmaids co-star Kristen Wiig to play off of and had brought her best characters from the Groundlings to the stage. McCarthy once again proved she’s an able sketch comedienne, but the results were a little more uneven and she didn’t connect to the female cast members as seamlessly. Still, she brought the house down with her charisma, penchant for oddballs, and her towering skill with physical comedy–as she showed in her opening monologue:

'Saturday Night Live': Melissa McCarthy and 'Peter Drunklage' liven up the show

7 April 2013 12:05 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Melissa McCarthy put in one of the more go-for-broke performances in recent memory during her first time hosting "Saturday Night Live." Would she bring the same high energy level to her second gig?

Pretty much, yeah. There was nothing quite as manic as the ranch dressing sketch from her last time, but McCarthy once again showed a great aptitude for physical comedy and a willingness to go all in on the characters she was playing. Let's run down the show:

Cold open

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un tells his people that he's changed his mind on same-sex marriage ... before going on a long digression about all the women he's slept with (17.5 million and counting) and his ability in the sack. Bobby Moynihan doesn't break at all as the monologue gets more ridiculous, which is good. Less good is the ending cameo by Dennis Rodman, who gets the "Live from New York ..." honors. »

"Game of Thrones" Recap: "The Queen's Guard"

Ah, my friends. If you, like me, know your TV rating codes and were unnaturally aroused by the appearance of the following letter combinations on your screen at 9pm Eastern last night:

...then you, like me, were unnaturally excited about the return of the naughty, nasty, dirty-haired square dance that is Game of Thrones. Let's jump right in, shall we?

The episode kicks off with unholy shrieks. So, basically, this could be any of the Real Housewives shows.

Spamwise Tarley (John Bradley) is running for his life through the snow - wait, are we literally picking up exactly where we left off last season? He comes across a seated figure in a cloak - he calls it "brother", but then realizes that his brother has no head. Well, he has a head, but he's holding it in his lap, technically. A White Walker with an axe comes at him, »

Game of Thrones' 'Valar Dohaeris' a gut punch to Tyrion, some thoughts

31 March 2013 9:13 PM, PDT | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

"You are an ill-made, spiteful little creature ... To teach me humility, the gods have condemned me to watch you waddle about" - Tywin Lannister to Tyrion Lannister Season 3, Episode 1 of HBO's "Game of Thrones," is titled "Valar Dohaeris." It will go down as one of the tougher episodes for fan favorite Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) who hears from his father Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) just how unloved he is. Hard to hear him dress down his "ill-formed" son of "low cunning" who Tywin wishes were not his own. Tyrion now must be vigilant for Shae (Sibel Kekilli) the whore whose come up (and refuge) was becoming Sansa's (Sophie Turner) handmaiden. Tywin has vowed to »

'Game of Thrones' premiere: Shae's Sibel Kekilli and Hot Pie's Ben Hawkey tease Season 3

29 March 2013 8:00 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

In "Game of Thrones," every character counts. It's not just queens like Daenerys Targaeryen or manipulators like Varys who can bring about great change, but any small squire, orphan or soldier. That's why it was exciting to see Sibel Kekilli and Ben Hawkey on the series' Season 3 Los Angeles premiere red carpet. The two actors teased what their characters are up to in the next 10 episodes and how they'll change going forward.

Kekilli's Shae is still in King's Landing with her lover, Tyrion Lannister, despite trying to get him to leave the Westeros capital with her at the end of Season 2. She says that puts their relationship in a very tricky situation.

"The end of this second season it shows that she loves him and their feelings are real, but that means it's a weakness for Tyrion and getting dangerous more and more for her and for Tyrion," Kekilli told Zap2it. »
