Langford on Soaps: John Partridge Exits "EastEnders"

Langford's Picks And Pans

EastEnders

I know a lot of people were upset that Ben slept with Lola given that Ben knows he’s gay. We have had too many tv gay teens who lose their virginity to girls, but I can sort of relate to the situation Ben was in, and I get why he would do it.

He might think he’s gay or believe he’s gay, but sleeping with a girl would remove any doubts, which is exactly how it played out. However, I’m not sure why Lola would sleep with Ben. It’s not like she particularly liked him or was even attracted to him. She just seemed all too casual about sleeping with Ben to me. But perhaps that’s an attitude that many teens have about intimacy in general, not worried about the very real ramifications of casual sex. And I suspect »

Langford on Soaps: "Days of Our Lives" Gets a Little Queerer

Langford's Picks And Pans

Maryada

I can’t help but be amused by Vidya’s determination to reunite Gaurav and Karan. After all, who better to play Cupid than the woman you dumped to be with your fella? Only in soaps. But given that Vidya nearly killed herself and then took a bullet for her ex, I guess I can understand why Gaurav would feel so guilty that he'd be willing to reject the man he loves.

I hope though with everybody and their grandmother pushing these boys to get back together that Gaurav gets over himself and works things out with Karan soon. It’s wonderful that this show is telling this groundbreaking story, but I think it would do even more good if Indian viewers could see these two men dealing with the drama of an ongoing relationship.

Gsn Hires Amy Introcaso-Davis To Run Programming

18 October 2011 11:10 AM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Amy Introcaso-Davis, who spearheaded programming efforts in previous stints at Lifetime, Bravo and most recently Oxygen, has been tapped as Evp Programming at Game Show Network. She will be charged with developing and acquiring programming designed to boost the network’s core adult female demographic — something right up her ally based on her previous work at female-skewing networks. “Amy has an impressive track record of creating phenomenally successful and culturally relevant content,” said Gsn president and CEO David Goldhill, to whom she will report. “We’re particularly pleased to have her join Gsn in a year when we’ve substantially increased our original programming and acquired some exciting series to engage our audience.” Most recently, Introcaso-Davis was Svp Original Programming and Development at Oxygen Media, where she oversaw among other shows its summer series The Glee Project. Before that she was at Bravo, where she developed and executive produced Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, »

Carson Kressley tells “DWTS” audience how “Queer Eye” changed his life

5 October 2011 11:18 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

HollywoodNews.com: Carson Kressley and his partner Anna Trebunskay tangoed their way to a standing ovation this week on Dancing With the Stars.

But I want to focus on the remarks Carson made before the dance about how being one of the stars of Bravo’s late, great Queer Eye for the Straight Guy really changed his life back in 2003.

Carson is so funny, seems so confident, but life was not always that way. Growing up, he feld different, “like an outsider” and he feared no one would love him because he was gay. But Queer Eye “was just me being me” and it turned out everybody loved him.

“The greatest thing that happened with that show … was the blessing that allowed me ti feel comfortable with who I was and, probably for the first time in my life, be proud of who I was.”

"The Playboy Club" Recap 102: "Straightening Up the House"

27 September 2011 2:37 PM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Welcome back to another episode of The Playboy Club! I have to say, I spoke with series creator, Chad Hodge this morning and he's got a lot of great things planned for the show; for the gay characters in particular. I'll save most of what I have to say for the interview post but I do want to tell you all that his vision is very different than the one in place for Mad Men and I hope you'll give him the benefit of the doubt and trust that the level of camp combined with a "fantasy land" for the bunnies was intentional. Stop getting so hung up on the decade and its aesthetics and let's concentrate on the fact that it took me three and a half hours to just get my notes done for this recap. While we're on the subject, I should probably also let you know »

The Sartorially Changing Men of "True Blood"

1 September 2011 8:06 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

The fourth season of True Blood has been bloodier, racier, trashier, more over-the-top, and more ridiculous than ever – and I couldn't be any happier.

Nonetheless, as I watch the fang-banging, the bloodsucking, and the general mayhem, I can't help but wonder, "Has the image of the characters changed along with the mythological Southern-fried looney storylines?"

The women easily have their trademark "style." Sookie stuffs herself into boob-hugging baby tees and camel toe-inducing Daisy Dukes; Pam displays her bitchiness via Dynasty dominatrix leather & lace and the "moon goddess" witch Marnie obviously has ambitions to be the next Chico's spokesmodel.

But what about the beloved men of Bon Temps? Upon close examination, they have probably evolved even more than the women. From Lafayette's braids and zany first season looks to Eric's finely cut suits, here's a breakdown of how three bohunks and one queen have kept their image fresh amidst the craziness of vampires, »

Just When You Thought ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Couldn’t Get Any More Lame: It Does

29 August 2011 7:44 PM, PDT | Deadline Hollywood | See recent Deadline Hollywood news »

This ABC show now in its 13th season is the bane of my existence (because I hate it so much) and returns on Monday, September 19th, with a fall season lineup of spandex-sporting contestants that’s as bewildering as ever. The full roster is: – Nancy “J’accuse” Grace, TV blonde who rants about white trash murders. – David Arquette, better known as a Howard Stern guest than an actor. – La Laker Ron Artest changing his name to “Metta World Peace”. – Chaz Bono, who’s obviously there for random curiosity. – George Clooney’s dumped girlfriend Elizabetta Canalis. – Kristin “Drama Drama Drama” Cavallari, the unlikeable Reality TV bimbo. – The least interesting Kardashian (which is saying a lot): Rob. – Carson “Queer Eye For The Straight Guy” Kressley, who needs a new agent. – Ricki Lake coming out of the Witness Protection Program. – J.R. Martinez, a soap opera actor who helps fulfill ABC’s diversity quota. »

Mini Gay Boyfriends For Everyone!

8 July 2011 7:41 AM, PDT | BestWeekEver | See recent BestWeekEver news »

Despite what you may see on Queer Eye For The Straight Guy reruns, being gay isn’t always easy. There’s the pain of being teased, ostracized, and generally misunderstood by many. Sure, we’ve come a long way, breaking barriers within the civil rights movement faster than anyone could have ever imagined. Most significantly, however, is that we’ve become pocket-sized anime-style cartoons! Digicub has released an app for iTunes that lets you collect your own tiny gay, or Mini Gay Boyfriend. It’s kind of like a Tamigotchi, but instead of being fed food and water, he just needs t0 be entertained! Start dating and you can take your mini gay for coffee, to the cinema or out for dinner. But be careful not to spill the milk or drop the popcorn – he won’t like it if you can’t handle a hot dog. Haha! Because hot dogs are shaped like penises! »

Review: Carson Nation with Carson Kressley best show on Own

26 June 2011 11:47 AM, PDT | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Oprah's Own may be well served by her secret weapon: Carson Kressley. Once a part of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy", Kressley is genuine and kind, and after meeting him and speaking with him over the past few years at Television Critics' Association events and ABC round tables, I have come to the conclusion anything this man touches in the realm of TV is gold. Why? Sincerity. Kressley comes at his audience with no malice afoot, no secret agenda or discomfort with his over-the-top exuberance about being a fabulous out gay man who marches to his own beat. He is a lovely person, and it comes through in his latest Own series, "Carson Nation." In fact, »

Colin Farrell as Rictor, Plus 11 Other Fantasy Superhero Casting Choices

16 June 2011 11:49 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

With the upcoming release of Warner Bros.’ The Green Lantern this Friday, I think it’s fair to say the comic book movie has become almost annoyingly ubiquitous over the past few years – not surprising given the sub-genre’s mostly sturdy record at the box-office.

Even so, it’ll probably be a long, long time before we ever see a big-budget Hollywood film depicting the exploits of a gay superhero – a fact that of course can’t stop us from thinking about it. Following from that, below I’ve put together a list of twelve queer crusaders who I’d like to see fighting the forces of evil on the big screen, along with my fantasy casting choices for each.

Obsidian (DC)

Fantasy Casting: Luke Macfarlane

Speaking of the Green Lantern, DC’s famed superhero actually has a lesser-known crime-fighting son named Todd Rice, who goes by the superhero alias Obsidian, »

What Dog Days? Here Are 15 Memorable TV Shows That Debuted During Summer

9 June 2011 9:39 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Television used to be so ... uncomplicated.

You knew that the TV season ran from September to May, and the summer months were a barren wasteland, and you could spend that time doing "summer" things, such as surviving piranha and shark attacks, attending summer camp near crystal lakes, finding a dead body near the train tracks that would lead you and you buds to learn life lessons about friendship, and oh, oh, those summer nights!

Occasionally (as you'll see), the networks would throw something new up during the summer that would catch the eye, but it's only been during the last decade or so that networks such as HBO, Bravo, and Syfy have discovered that there's actually a huge audience for fresh programming during the months of June, July, and August.

Check out these memorable shows, all of which debuted in the months when it was still fashionably legal to wear white. »

Review: Does Logo (Finally) Have Another Reality Hit with "The Setup Squad"?

22 April 2011 8:49 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Renee Lee (left) with her squad, L to R, Lauretta, Jonathan, Helen, and Meredith

I'll confess to seriously mixed feelings about "the gay channel" Logo's recent reliance on cheaper-to-produce reality TV shows, at the clear expense of enjoyable, but much more expensive-to-mount scripted shows like Noah's Arc and (especially) Rick and Steve the Happiest Gay Couple in All the World.

Sure, RuPaul's Drag Race was deservedly a big hit (and The Robert Verdi Show was a gem, but under-appreciated, mostly because people missed the satire). But I was mostly underwhelmed by the RuPaul spin-off Drag U and the flower-arranging show The Arrangement. As for The A-List: New York ... well, don't get me started.

But Logo (which owns AfterElton.com) has another potential hit on their hands with The Setup Squad, premiering April 25th at 11:30 Pm, at least based on the first episode, provided to us by the channel.

This week's players are all news presenters and TV journalists. Which of them would you...

Bryan Safi

Bryan hosts That's Gay, a comedy/culture segment on Current TV's infoMania. He's offered some fun and witty takes on some very gay topics, like Prop 8 and that recently discovered not-gay caveman.
