Slamdance Fetes Punk Icons in La This September (Exclusive)

The Slamdance Cinema Club has programmed a one-two punch for punk-rocking cinephiles this Fall. On September 20, "End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones" will screen at the Arclight Hollywood, 8pm. Directors Jim Fields and Michael Gramaglia charts the seminal punk quartet, from their modest roots in Queens to their 2002 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, with breakups, rifts and deaths in between. This first premiered in 2003 at Slamdance, which celebrates its 20th year as Utah's alternative to Sundance. On September 21, Paul Rachman's "American Hardcore," which took five years to make, tunnels through the birth of hardcore punk rock between 1978 and 1986, with underground footage of Black Flag, Minor Threat, Bad Brains and more. This film also screens at the Arclight, 8pm. Jennifer Garner’s Butter Character Inspired by Sarah Palin?

You already had a chance to read about the upcoming movie Butter.

Let’s all remind some details. Butter is a comedy set in the Midwest U.S., where an adopted girl discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman (that will be played by Jennifer Garner) in their town’s annual contest.

Previous reports have suggested that Butter is a comedic twist on what happened in 2008, Democratic caucus of Hillary Clinton Vs. Obama, but it’s not a straight up portrayal or biopic.

But now, Jennifer Garner’s Butter character (Laura Pickler) is said to be based on former governor of Alaska Sarah Palin.

Harvey Weinstein, who is releasing Butter through his Weinstein Company distribution firm, revealed that the movie will feature two butter sculptors vying to win a competition at the Iowa State Fair.

Butter is a comedy set in the Midwest U.S., where an adopted girl discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman (Garner) in their town's annual contest. Butter was written by Jason Micallef and will be directed by Jim Fields Smith. The film is set to start production later this month.

Australian native Hugh Jackman made his first major U.S. film appearance as Wolverine in the first installment of the X-men franchise, a role he reprised in the enormously successful X2 and 2006’s X-men: The Last Stand. Hugh Jackman Joins the Cast of Butter

Earlier today, we reported that Olivia Wilde and Alicia Silverstone had joined the cast of the political satire Butter. Variety now reports that Hugh Jackman is also on board to co-star in the film which begins shooting this month. The actor was scheduled to shoot the comedy Avon Man this month in Atlanta but Production Weekly reports [via The Playlist] that the offices for that film have been shut down.

The comedy, directed by Jim Field Smith (She’s Out of My League), is based on the 2008 Democratic Presidential Primary except instead of running for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, it’s about a competition to win the title of local butter-carving champion. Jennifer Garner plays an ambitious Midwestern woman whose filandering husband (Ty Burrell) previously won the title. Butter follows a young orphan who, after being adopted by a Midwestern family, discovers she has an uncanny talent for butter-carving. She eventually finds herself up against the ambitious wife of the retired reigning champion in a town's annual butter-sculpting contest.

The script was written by Jason Micallef. It will be directed by Jim Fields Smith.

Butter will be the first film for Garner's production company Vandalia Films. "I can't wait to start churning," she stated.

Production will start next month in Louisiana.
