11:55 a.m. ICM Partners’ annual brunch has become a welcome respite from the swirl of nighttime events on Emmy weekend. Waiters with cups of Sangria spiked with apple slices and grapes greeted guests on the steps of Chris Silbermann’s Santa Monica home. The brunch  was fantastic — fresh crepes made on the spot, blintzes, all manner of egg dishes and fruit. There’s a reason we skipped breakfast.

12:05 p.m. No ICM Partners brunch is complete without a chat with “Breaking Bad’s” Vince Gilligan and his rep Mark Gordon. Vince was cheery as usual with a pink shirt to match. He »

Showtime Renews Masters Of Sex and Ray Donovan for Season 3

20 August 2014 10:32 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Fresh off AMC’s decision to bring Halt and Catch Fire back for another season, Showtime has ordered Masters of Sex Season 3 and Ray Donovan Season 3.  Both shows received 12-episode orders for a third season, set to debut in early 2015.  I haven’t seen either, but Masters of Sex is high on my list of shows I need to catch up on.  Lizzy Caplan has earned rave reviews for her lead performance, garnering an Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series along with a bevy of Emmy nods for the show in general.  The series averages four million weekly viewers across all platforms while Ray Donovan averages five million, so bringing both shows back was a no-brainer for Showtime.  Read the full press release after the jump. Emmys Drama Preview: Why Serials Knocked Procedurals Out of the Race

31 July 2014 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

It seems obvious to say, yet it’s still a striking thought: A procedural drama, historically a staple of television, is unlikely to ever win another best series Emmy — and, indeed, will probably struggle even to get nominated.

That’s reflected in this year’s nominees — all of them serialized — highlighting an appetite for such storytelling that has permeated not just television, where it has found its deepest and most satisfying roots, but multiple forms of entertainment.

Indeed, modern-day film franchises have adopted a serialized approach, as evidenced by the book-to-screen successes that have become such lucrative annuities, from “Harry Potter” and “The Lord of the Rings” to “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games.” Where James Bond’s adventures were once crafted into largely stand-alone affairs, the latest run starring Daniel Craig adopted a trilogy-like connection more reminiscent of Jason Bourne than vintage incarnations of 007.

'Penny Dreadful' men bring brooding horror to Comic-Con: Live-Blog

It's been a long day in Ballroom 20. I live-blogged "24." I live-blogged "Under the Dome" by accident. I live-blogged "Community." And I watched thousands of young women squeal over Dylan O'Brien. Now it's time to cap off Comic-Con Thursday with Showtime's "Penny Dreadful." While Eva Green is absent -- Too busy to kick off her 2015 Emmy campaign here? -- we have many of the "Penny Dreadful" men, including creator John Logan, Reeve "Dorian Gray" Carney, Harry "Frankenstein" Treadaway and Josh "Werewolf Guy" Harnett.  Aisha Tyler is moderating. Click through and follow along... 5:58 p.m. "Penny Dreadful" has to follow after the terrific "Hannibal" panel, which was also missing a number of featured stars... Sepinwall live-blogged that one. Oh and we don't really have the "Penny Dreadful" men, because Timothy Dalton isn't here.  6:04 p.m. Great Season 1 sizzle reel. Few people on TV can equal Eva Green when it comes »

First trailer for Homeland season 4

21 July 2014 3:12 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Showtime have released the first trailer and poster for the upcoming fourth Season of it’s highly acclaimed politically driven drama Homeland and it looks bloody awesome. Claire Danes is back as the bipolar CIA agent on the edge Carrie Mathison, but this time she’ll be in Pakistan doing what she does best.

Season 4 is said to be radically different from the previous three, with Mathison returning to her field work – as teased early on in Season 1 – and according to The Wrap Showtime Entertainment President David Nevins is urging fans of the show to reconsider what they once thought the show was about. Mandy Patinkin’s Saul Berenson is also set to have a more central role this time around. Rupert Friend will return joined by new faces Corey Stoll (House of Cards) and Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi).

We’d have to agree with the tagline, there really is no place like Homeland. »
