Why 3 Musical Theater Stars Are Heading to Fox

25 July 2016 1:30 PM, PDT | backstage.com | See recent Backstage news »

Roaring lions, clowns on unicycles, and trapeze swingers are just a few of the circus staples that could be attributed to P.T. Barnum, and 20th Century Fox wants to delve deeper into who some consider to be “The Greatest Showman on Earth.” Come one and come all! This semi-biographical film about the famous showman, who created the three-ring circus, will follow his financial downfall after he invites Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind stateside to perform a series of concerts. The film, cast by noted casting experts Telsey + Company, will feature its own musical element with some veterans of the genre: The cast of songbirds currently includes Hugh Jackman as Barnum, Michelle Williams as Lind, Zendaya, and Zac Efron, heading back to his “High School Musical” roots. Filming on the project is set to begin in the fall around late October in New York, with rehearsals beginning in September. Irish-bred Saoirse Ronan »

Who could forget Ben Stiller's losing battle with a zipper in There's Something About Mary? Or what about Jason Biggs' attack on that warm, homemade, no-longer-wholesome apple pie in American Pie? What about NeighborsZac Efron and Seth Rogen gave us too many penis jokes to count with that gem... Who needs highbrow humor anyway? »

Review: Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

11 July 2016 10:30 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

This review was originally published in Nathaniel's Towleroad column...

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates starts out giddy with a bouncy firecracker of a credits sequence. Please take that literally as the credits involve a trampoline, fireworks, and two gleeful stars Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) in mid air. Their joyful abandon is short-lived. A scene or two later we're at an intervention with their parents (Stephen Root & Stephanie Faracy) in which we see these same high-flying images again from a less zhushed-up perspective in home wedding videos their parents play them. The inseparable brothers, always each other's bachelor dates at these gatherings, egg each other on until disaster strikes. Property destruction and ambulance calls follow them...  »
