Robin Williams Accused of Stealing Jokes in New Book

5 October 2017 2:52 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The late Robin Williams has been accused of stealing jokes back in the early days of his comedic career in a new comedy tell-all book written by the legendary Budd Friedman. Friedman founded the New York and Los Angeles Improv Comedy Clubs and has seen a lot of things in his 85 years. In addition to ratting out Robin Williams, Friedman devotes an entire chapter to the iconic and polarizing comedian, Andy Kaufman, and dishes on managing Bette Midler as well as witnessing Johnny Carson getting wasted and making out with an 18-year old girl in the backseat of a car.

Many comedians have been accused of joke stealing, but as it turns out, Robin Williams was reportedly notorious for it back when he was for starting out. The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Budd Friedman about his book and the author revealed that Richard Lewis and Robert Wuhl both accuse Williams »

‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’: Larry David Invented Hot Takes, and He Isn’t Looking For Yours

4 October 2017 1:32 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

After six years off the air, Larry David and his beloved HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” return to a world that is, well, a lot more like Larry David and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Just as the “Curb” Larry is known for his unsolicited, and often unwelcome opinions, we now live in a social media age awash with too many hot takes.

Can the cringe comedy maintain its gleefully malcontent attitude in a culture where everyone has their own awkward, awful opinion? The TV version of “Larry David” is the king of offensive behavior, typically meted out by his own hand, waged against a world that just doesn’t understand him. “Curb” did it first, and no matter your take, it’s not going to change.

Cheryl Hines feels “liberated” by her return to Curb Your Enthusiasm

3 October 2017 8:00 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Curb Your Enthusiasm is back and actress Cheryl Hines feels “liberated” to have returned to the show.

Hines, who plays Larry David’s now ex-wife on the show, has built up a fair bit of history with the fictional Larry over the years, and the show’s return this week showed the two of them still floating in the same circles, despite Cheryl’s continued frustrations with her ex.

She isn’t alone in her anguish of course and the actress revealed that part of her wishes the two could still be together.

“I miss being married to Larry,” Hines revealed to The Hollywood Reporter, “There is a world in which I think we belong together.”

Hines also talked about what it was like returning to Curb – a show where the dialogue is largely improvised – and that the only thing that’s really changed is her.

'Curb Your Enthusiasm' Cast on How the Premiere Kicker Impacts the Season

2 October 2017 1:38 PM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter - TV News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - TV News news »

Curb Your Enthusiasm has returned after six years and, as promised ahead of the HBO comedy's highly anticipated Oct. 1 launch, not much has changed.

Larry David's TV alter ego was still thrusting himself into uncomfortable situations — this time, crossing international borders when a fatwa is issued against him — and catching up with the people in his life, including manager Jeff Greene (Jeff Garlin) and his foulmouthed better half Susie (Susie Essman), favorite freeloader Leon Black (J.B. Smoove) and ex-wife Cheryl David (Cheryl Hines).

But is one of those relationships ready for a change?

If we had to look for a theme for this month's TV offerings, we might go with: Chaos Reigns. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend promises to devote its third season to a revenge plot; the one-man disruptive force known as Larry David resuscitates his antisocial HBO masterpiece Curb Your Enthusiasm; Fox's new superhero show The Gifted features mutants on the run from government-sanctioned extermination; Riverdale is back with more warped Archie sex and violence; and The Walking Dead returns with both hungry "walkers" and all-out war. ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Stars Reveal Whether They Think Larry David Is Up For Another Season

2 October 2017 6:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Leave it to the inimitable Susie Essman to tell it like it is. When asked about the possibility of still more seasons of Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” finally back on the small screen after six years away, Essman kept the door wide open. “I mean, did he come back after six years just to do one more season? Maybe they’ll be 11, 12, 13, who knows,” she told IndieWire.

And she’s got a point. After “Curb” wrapped up its eighth season in the fall of 2011, even David’s own cohorts were concerned that the bold and brash HBO comedy series had come to an end. Essman, who said she was sure the series was going to return (until she very, very much sure that it wasn’t), remembered speaking to David about seven months after the last season finale, set in Paris.

‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Season 9 Premiere Finally Reveals What Larry Has Been Doing For the Last Six Years

1 October 2017 7:39 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Few television series — especially those just unspooling their long-awaited ninth season — would be bold enough to trade on the concept that absolutely nothing has changed over the intervening years. Characters grow, situations change. But Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is not just any television series.

Six years after the HBO series wrapped its eighth season, Hollywood’s favorite malcontent is back, and he’s the exact same curmudgeon audiences love (and his friends love to hate). The Larry David of “Curb” doesn’t evolve, and never learns, and HBO has even made that the backbone of the show’s marketing campaign: This season’s official trailer literally boasts that “nothing has changed.”

Nonetheless, it was a long hiatus, and although the cameras weren’t rolling, surely Larry got into plenty of misunderstandings and stepped into countless of awkward situations during the intervening years. The last season saw him and »

Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9 Premiere: Was It Worth the Wait?

Larry is pretty, pretty, pretty much a dead man walking by the conclusion of Sunday’s long-anticipated Season 9 premiere of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

PhotosCurb Your Enthusiasm: The 12 Worst Things Larry Has Ever Done, Ranked

As we learn at the top of the super-sized opener, Larry David’s lead curmudgeon has spent the past five years working on a new musical titled simply and provocatively Fatwa! The Musical. Word of the top-scret, Ayatollah Khomeini-skewering project gets out via Larry himself during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and, needless to say, the Iran’s Ayatollah is not amused. In fact, »

‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’: How Trump’s Election Almost Derailed The Returning Comedy’s First Day of Production

29 September 2017 11:51 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Consider it the greatest indignity of them all for Larry David. After almost six years away, David’s lauded comedy series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” was finally set to kick off production on its long-awaited ninth season last November — the day after the presidential election.

Stars and staffers were expecting to return to set in a celebratory mood. Instead, David and his cast and crew — including long-time on-screen sidekick J.B. Smoove and executive producer Jeff Schaffer — reunited on a day that seemed to make it clear just how much things had changed since the series’ eighth season wrapped in September 2011.

“I was up all night, I couldn’t sleep,” Smoove told IndieWire. “I said, ‘You know what? I’m gonna go to sleep and wake up and this shit is gonna be fine.’ It was the weirdest day. It felt like a weird dream, I was like, ‘Really?’ I couldn’t believe it. »
