Seinfeld” is long gone, but Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is finally set to return for a ninth season, “Veep” is as funny as ever and Jerry Seinfeld’s “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” remains an entertaining diversion as well. Seinfeld’s next guest in the web series — which, as you might have deduced, features comedians in cars getting coffee — is Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels. Watch a brief preview of their encounter below.

Michaels starts things off by saying he’s “very happy” to be part of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee”; when asked by Seinfeld if he means it, he quickly admits, “no.” He’s next seen questioning the show’s very format, though his apparent confusion seems quickly assuaged as the two sit down for coffee and discuss Dana Carvey. »

Match Game: Season One Ratings

27 June 2016 1:33 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Though the show was created in the 1960s, most people remember the version of Match Game from the 1970s. Can ABC recreate the ratings magic of that version in 2016? Will this version be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.

Hosted by Alec Baldwin, Match Game features contestants trying to match the answers to "fill in the blank" questions with as many celebrities as they can. The grand prize is $25,000. Celebrity panelists include Michael Ian Black, Tituss Bugess, Sutton Foster, Debra Messing, Rosie O'Donnell, and Jb Smoove.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available -- typically around 11:30am Est/8:30am Pst. Refresh to see the latest. »

Watch: Margaret Cho Calls Jerry Seinfeld a ‘Japanese Girl’ in ‘Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee’ Teaser

21 June 2016 10:50 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Crackle has released a teaser clip of the next episode of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” a runaway hit for the online content distributor.

In the passenger’s seat this week is Margaret Cho, your friendly neighborhood radical feminist, and politically incorrect comedian. Cho is known for speaking her mind and ignoring the critics, so this episode will surely be a doozy. The sneak peek features Cho doing her signature Korean accent, a caricature for which the Korean-American comedian has come under fire. Her parody of Kim Jong Il on “30 Rock,” which earned her an Emmy nomination, was criticized as minstrelsy by Time Magazine.

Luckily for Cho, Jerry Seinfeld’s car is a judgment-free zone, where she can mimic her people all she wants.

Barbershop: The Next Cut (a.k.a. Barbershop: A Fresh Cut) (2016)

Directed by Malcolm D. Lee

Starring Ice Cube, Robert Teitel, Cedric the Entertainer, Regina Hall, Sean Patrick Thomas, Eve, Anthony Anderson, Jazsmin Lewis-Kelley, Common, Nicki Minaj, Margot Bingham, Lamorne Morris, Deon Cole, Reggie Brown, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Tyga, J.B. Smoove, Deon Cole

Synopsis

Employees at the barbershop look to solve the gang-related violence that has taken its hold on the local community.

It’s been 12 years since the last outing of the Barbershop franchise (11 if you want to include its spin-off), and it’s nice to see many of them return as well as the arrival of some new faces. As these films have gained greater recognition and a growing fan-base over years, one glaring concern would be that of quality: could they recapture the magic and chemistry given the time-lapse? Could the director of Scary Movie 5 live up to such standards? »

Why Jb Smoove Thinks Larry David Is A ‘Different Animal’ Than Jerry Seinfeld

16 June 2016 2:35 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

J.B. Smoove is having a very good summer. The comedian is thrilled about the recent announcement that HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” will return for a ninth season, and he cannot wait to see himself on “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” Jerry Seinfeld’s runaway hit of a web series, which premiered today on Crackle with Jim Gaffigan in the passenger’s seat.

“I don’t know what’s more fun, hearing that ‘Curb’ is back, or actually shooting the season and hearing it comes on tonight, you know what I mean?” the comedian told IndieWire by phone on Wednesday.

Known for his singular cadence, Smoove got his start on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam,” wrote for “Saturday Night Live” in the early aughts and became a household name with shows like “The Millers,” “’Til Death” and Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Some fans may know him best from “Curb,” but Smoove was well known to other audiences long before that.

“’Curb’ definitely opened crazy new doors and new avenues for me, a new demographic, if I may say that,” said Smoove. It also changed what was expected from him on other projects: “People are more lenient, they’d rather see your take on things since you come from an improv based show.”

Earlier this week, Smoove hinted that “Curb” might be returning for a ninth season during an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” saying Larry David had gauged his interest during one of the pair’s bi-monthly phone conversations. Smoove said he would make himself available. “It’s still fun to see Larry’s damn face, always good to see Larry.”

David is not the only “Seinfeld” creator in Smoove’s life, though he is admittedly much closer with David. Smoove first met Seinfeld while doing an episode of his short-lived reality show, “The Marriage Ref.” A car fanatic, Smoove was a big fan of the web series. “Every season I’m like, ‘Damn! When is Jerry gonna call me to do this damn show?’” Call he did, and the two Jerries had a grand ‘ole time.

“My real name is Jerry, his name is Jerry. Jerries are a very particular animal. Jerries are actually the leopard of the animal species. We have a very particular pattern of things we do, a very particular style,” Smoove said.

The show has been a surprise hit. (In early episodes, almost every comedian ribs Seinfeld about doing a web show). Now in its eighth season, the previous season took the internet by storm when President Obama appeared on the first episode.

Filming is fast and pleasant, according to Smoove: “Jerry picks you up in the car, you talk about the car for a few minutes. You get in the car, you go get coffee, you sit there and you talk about life, love, career, kids, wife, anything.” That’s a pretty accurate description of what happens in each episode.

The result is a very candid conversation between two comedians at the top of their craft about what they see as the world’s greatest profession. “The comedian is that person who can take tragedy and still be able to give an audience something to go home with,” said Smoove.

The two “Seinfeld” creators are more different than they seem, according to Smoove. “Larry’s a little more neurotic, Jerry seems very outgoing and has lots of energy. You can tell when his eyes light up, certain things he loves,” Smoove said. “Larry is very observant. Larry will walk around a party with his hand in his pocket and just sit there and nod his head and watch people.” After working with both, Smoove can see why the two worked so well together. “It’s the little nuances in life, the little bits of humor that people can relate to,” he said. “That’s what made ‘Seinfeld’ so amazing which also makes ‘Curb’ so amazing.”

Curb Your Enthusiasm” finds humor in the cringeworthy situations Larry David gets himself into. Almost every character on the show is a foil for Larry’s neuroses, but not Leon, the character Smoove plays. “Larry gets something from Leon that he can’t get from anybody else on the show. He gets honesty, he gets someone who has his back, someone who agrees with him, who can say: ‘You’re damn right, Larry.'” Some people claim the show is too painful to watch. “You know why? Because it’s too real,” says Smoove.

Smoove’s episode of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” will air sometime in the next eight weeks. It appears Seinfeld is just as secretive as David when it comes to his shows. Smoove has no idea what is in store for Season 9 of “Curb,” because “Larry is very secretive.” Even if he weren’t, Smoove says he never looks at the 6-7 page script outlines for the improvised show, because he “think[s] it would take the edge off the funny.”

What he can say about “Comedians in Cars” is that things will definitely get personal. “They’re gonna see a deeper side of Jb.” If his deeper side is as unique as his funny side, it’s going to be a very interesting ride.

First Trailer And Poster For Almost Christmas Tease Seasonal Shenanigans

15 June 2016 1:25 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Hollywood’s knack for ensemble festive comedies will continue unabated this year in the form of Almost Christmas, an ensemble dramedy that revolves around, you guessed it, a bickering family that is forced to set aside old differences while sharing the same roof during the holiday period.

No, it’s not the Griswolds; for David E. Talbert’s (Baggage Claim) festive feature will center on Danny Glover’s beloved patriarch “who asks his family for one gift this holiday season: to get along. If they can honor that wish and spend five days under the same roof without killing one another, it will be a Christmas miracle.”

Written and directed by Talbert, along with the producing support of Ride Along‘s Will Packer, Almost Christmas isn’t likely to herald any comedic revolutions anytime soon, but as a star-studded crowd-pleaser, it ought to do just fine come November. It features a cast led by Kimberly Elise, Danny Glover, John Michael Higgins, Romany Malco, Mo’Nique, Jb Smoove, Gabrielle Union, Omar Epps, Nicole Ari Parker, Jessie T. Usher and DC Young Fly.

Taking full advantage of the holiday release window, Almost Christmas will revel in seasonal shenanigans when David E. Talbert’s comedy opens on November 11. In the meantime, a new poster introduces that all-star cast, who simply can’t contain their excitement to kick off the festive celebrations.

After a nearly five-year hiatus, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” will return to HBO for a ninth season. The news was announced by Casey Bloys, president of programming. When asked why he decided to come back, series creator/star Larry David deferred to history: “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.’” “Pretty pretty good” is an understatement today, dear readers.

Bloys added that “We’re thrilled that Larry has decided to do a new season of ‘Curb’ and can’t wait to see what he has planned.” No other details have been announced, but fans of the irreverent, semi-improvised comedy are sure to be pleased regardless — this news has been anticipated for years.
