The Crystal Maze 2017 episode 2 review

Louisa Mellor Jun 30, 2017

The revived Crystal Maze is a winner, as its second Stand Up To Cancer celebrity special proves…

“I love The Crystal Maze!” said Joey Essex, once he’d worked out what one was and that he was in it. “Haven’t we revitalised the format?!” agreed Richard Ayoade enthusiastically, sadly putting Joey right back in the lap of confusion.

Ayoade and Essex, two very different kinds of men. Watching them try to converse can’t be unlike watching an owl try to mate with a suitcase. Having seen it now though, I just want more. Quick, someone commission a show in which the pair of them team up to fight crime or catch cowboy roofers or conduct a public vote for the nation’s best Center Parcs. Whatever it is, I know I wouldn’t be able to look away.

Steve Jones runs out of steam on Channel 4 but avoids F1 grid walk from hell | Simon Burnton

An interviewer more accustomed to Angelina Jolie had acclimatising to do for F1 coverage while Mark Webber and David Coulthard led cameramen a merry dance

In your wildest dreams did you ever imagine a new team could have such a great debut? It is the question that David Coulthard, who not only co-presents Channel 4’s Formula One coverage but owns the production company that makes it, would have been desperate to hear as their first live race came to a close. Instead he was asking it himself while thrusting a microphone towards Romain Grosjean, who had just finished fifth. Having come sixth in Melbourne a fortnight earlier the Haas driver has illuminated this new season but in Bahrain the sport’s other new team was not quite so convincing.

By the end the lead presenter Steve Jones, normally so at ease when on camera that interviews with such people as Angelina Jolie,

Channel 4’s F1 Chain gang left in a bind by Melbourne qualifying mess | Emma John

The Australian Grand Prix was the debut for a new commentary team – and for a set of rules that undermined the Bond‑a-like trailer and promises of thrills

It was a head-scratcher, that’s for sure. “We’re still learning, along with you at home,” said Ben Edwards, as Channel 4’s commentary team were forced to make their F1 debut with one of those confusing hours of action that only the byzantine world of motorsport can cook up. David Coulthard, attempting to elucidate one of the finer points of the new qualifying system, turned to Edwards and suggested: “We should explain the offside rule after this.”

As a combination of tyre issues, driving order and countdown clocks served up what everyone later agreed was an unholy mess, the pair were left with nothing to commentate on in the supposedly climactic final four minutes. Karun Chandhok had to report from

  • Vulture
While Jeremy Clarkson and his merry team of co-presenters (Richard "Hamster" Hammond; James "Captain Slow" May) are making that Friends money over at Amazon, the BBC is revamping their iconic motoring series Top Gear with a quartet of relatively unknown people — for this side of the pond, anyway. Racing driver Sabine Schmitz and motoring journalist Chris Harris will join veteran TV-presenter Chris Evans (no, not that Chris Evans) and ex–Formula One driver David Coulthard in the new series, according to Deadline. The new Top Gear will likely go grill-to-grill against the formidable trio's Amazon show, and it'll be interesting to see which show emerges triumphant, and what the subsequent cornucopia of thinkpieces will make of all of it.The departure of Clarkson, May, and Hammond from the BBC comes after a highly-publicized "fracas" between Clarkson and a producer earlier this year, for which Clarkson was later fired. Micky Flanagan wears drag to visit Cannes transvestite bar

Micky Flanagan has showcased a daring new look for his Detour de France documentary series.

The comedian and his friend Noel Lynch travelled across France for the trip show, which Flanagan previously described as "not a travelogue".

In tonight's (November 17) episode, Flanagan and Lynch head to the south of France where they encounter a gypsy festival, a winemaker and an artistic gardener, before visiting the psychiatric hospital which was once home to artist Vincent van Gogh.

The boys also take a trip to Monaco, where they embark on a bike ride with former F1 driver David Coulthard.

However, the trip takes an interesting turn when the pair head to Cannes and visit a transvestite bar, where they are persuaded to give drag a go. And the results truly are a sight to behold!

Micky Flanagan's Detour de France continues tonight at 9pm on Sky1.

F1 2013 Trailer Shows Off The Ferrari 312 T2

Geez, these F1 2013 videos are coming on fast and furious (haha, cars!). In the most recent trailer for the upcoming racing sim from Codemasters, the focus is placed on the seemingly very important Ferrari 312 T2. I’m not intimately familiar with it or anything, but that doesn’t change the fact that it looks incredibly sexy coming around the bend at the beginning of this video.

Aside from slow motion car porn, the trailer is essentially a promo for the game’s new Classic Edition. In that version, you’ll be able to race famous cars, drivers, and circuits from various eras of F1 history. My knowledge on that is a bit stiff, but I imagine F1 junkies will really get a kick out of it. Other sports games have been doing this kind of thing for years, so it’s definitely a good move on Codemasters’ end.
