DVD Review: The Little Engine That Could

10 October 2011 7:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The story of the plucky train whose can-do spirit has been a staple of kindergarten America for over a century comes to DVD in an entirely new rendition awash in CGI and the obligatory star name voiceover artists.

While storybooks have told and retold the story over the years, with updates, tiny alterations and new illustrations along the way, perhaps the best known verison was written by Watty Piper and that’s the version which provided the basis for the 1991 cartoon version as well as this 2011 edition.

While there is no definitive version of the story it is easy to see how this new iteration came to be as the story is timeless and train that can talk exist in many forms in children’s entertainment. What separates this from the previous versions is that it’s a far longer tale than the 1991 half hour animated film and because it »

In the dystopian world imagined by Suzanne Collins in her best-selling young-adult trilogy "The Hunger Games," anxious teens hope against all odds that they can avoid the titular, televised fight to the death decreed by their government. But in the real world, Hollywood's rising stars are battling to get into the arena for the upcoming adaptation of the series' first novel due out March 23, 2012. And no role is more hotly contested than that of 16-year-old District 12 tribute Katniss Everdeen.

Casting speculation has run rampant since the news came in March 2009 that the novel's screen rights had been purchased by Lionsgate. U.K. "Skins" star Kaya Scodelario was an early fan favorite for the role and, along with "Nikita" star Lyndsy Fonseca was »

'Step Up's' Alyson Stoner really, really wants 'Hunger Games' role

21 February 2011 2:54 PM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

There's no shortage of young Hollywood actors expressing their desire to star in the much-anticipated "Hunger Games" movie based on the young adult novels. But while most actors act a bit coy about their desire for a role in the film, "Step Up" and "Camp Rock 2" star, Alyson Stoner, is making sure she sends no mixed messages about her desire to play the lead role of Katniss, according to Ontd.

She recently tweeted the photo above of herself dressed as Katniss next to an illustration by Jason Chan

Previously, she tweeted pictures of herself climbing a wall and a tree -- in the books, climbing is one of Katniss' better skills.

Her pal, "Suite Life" actress Debby Ryan told MTV.com that Stoner "read ['The Hunger Games' books] a few years ago, and I know that she's been very much in the mental place of the role... Knowing her better almost than I know myself, »

Abigail Breslin would love to take on the lead role in 'The Hunger Games'. While fans of Suzanne Collins' book trilogy have previously called for the 14-year-old actress to play Prim in the highly anticipated film adaptation, 'Rango' star Abigail admitted Prim's older sister Katniss would be her character of choice. She told MTV.com: "I think it's an amazing book. I'm a huge fan of the books. It's amazing, obviously it would be great [to be in the film]. "Obviously I would love to play Katniss. All the characters in the books are amazing. It's a very cool book. The characters in it are very strong and very cool. It's an amazing series." Everyone in the World (Including Chloe Moretz) Wants to be Katniss Everdeen

28 January 2011 7:46 AM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

This just in: according to the Los Angeles Times, Chloe Moretz has expressed interest in playing Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming adaptation of the popular young adult series “The Hunger Games.”

And in related news, the sky is blue, water is wet and Joanie loves Chachi.

Okay, so we’re being a wee bit sarcastic. But as much as we love Moretz — she did really kick-ass in “Kick-Ass,” after all — the fact that she wants to play Katniss Everdeen isn’t news so much as a foregone conclusion considering that every girl in Hollywood between the ages of 10 and 25 would pretty much drown a kitten for a chance at the part.

Which is understandable. But who should actually get it?

First, a little background for those of you who have been living in a cave with a box of scraps for the past few years: in the novels by author Suzanne Collins, »

How Did Stars Like Taylor Lautner & Madison Pettis Get Their Big Break? Top Agent Tells the Surprising Way Kids Can Start Acting Careers!

21 January 2011 9:36 AM, PST | kidspickflicks | See recent kidspickflicks news »

Kidspickflicks Exclusive! Kids may think that Taylor Lautner's first acting job was as the title "boy" in Shark Boy and Lava Girl, but in fact, the teen wolf we now know as "Jacob" started with a voiceover job for Petco. For kid actors, voiceover work has become the breeding ground for tomorrow's future superstars.

Part of the reason is the savvy of Melissa Berger Brennan, the Hollywood agent who has jump-started the careers of many kid actors by identifying their talent on the microphone. She says that a good Vo actor is usually a good on-camera actor but it doesn't necessarily work the other way around, "It's not like they just have to smile at the mom or bring in a bowl of cereal, they have to be natural with it." Once kids nail the emotional depth off camera, she says that it usually translates on camera.

Marc’s Blu-ray Review Round-Up

6 January 2011 11:02 AM, PST | FusedFilm | See recent FusedFilm news »

Step Up 3

Let me start off this review by saying fairly that the film “Step Up 3″ is definitely not my cup of tea. But I don’t really think the movie is aimed towards myself, but rather people that are interested and participate in the human ritual of rhythmic motion known as dancing.

Here’s the story: Moose (Adam G. Sevani) & his lifelong best friend Camille (Alyson Stoner) have just started school at Nyu. Moose’s parents are saying goodbye & couldn’t be happier that their son has set aside his foolish desire to dance to instead focus on earning his Engineering degree. No sooner do his parents leave him be does Moose stumble onto an impromptu dance-off. Moose injects himself into the contest & his moves catch the eye of Luke (Rick Malambri), an amateur filmmaker & dancer who heads up The House of Pirates, a local dance squad »

Step Up 3 - Blu-Ray Review

6 January 2011 7:53 AM, PST | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

.Why do you dance?. is the question that begins this third installment of the Step Up dance movies. The answers of the young people who dance is both a revealing prelude to the story as well as an underlying theme that moves to the surface throughout the film. Step Up 3 (also known as Step Up 3D) continues the saga of Moose and Camille as they begin their Freshman year at New York University. Moose (Adam Sevani) has promised his parents that his dancing days are over and that he will settle down to study engineering. He and Camille (Alyson Stoner) mean to study hard and so well. Moose is distracted on his way to orientation by a »
