Fjelsted's career began in the 90s in the southeastern fine art scene, where his critically lauded gallery works included painting, sculpture, and installations. He soon segued into art direction for theater and commercial photography, and worked for five years in multiple disciplines for a special fx company. During off hours he wrote and directed the animated short The Firefly Man (2003) which screened at over a dozen festivals, including Telluride, aired on The Sundance Channel, and was included on best of fests dvd compilations. Fjelsted moved to Los Angeles in 2002, and has since worked as a production designer in film and television for 15 years. He has collaborated with dozens of directors including Gregg Araki, Patty Jenkins, and Andrew Haigh, and designed television series for Netflix, HBO, and Amazon. He has also been hired to direct short content in the form of music videos, animation, and 2nd unit footage. Fjelsted is repped by UTA and lives in the Beachwood Canyon area of Los Angeles.

Trivia (1)

His first film, The Firefly Man, combines numerous animation techniques including an animatronic version of an eighteenth-century form of Japanese puppetry, 'bunraku'.
